The tragedies spill over from August into September in Barbados…
McBride’s, a company which uses heavy chemicals to manufacturer aerosol sprays like Beep and Bop to kill insects. As a consequence Banantyne, Durant’s, and other areas down wind in the immediate area have been deemed to be under threat. Residents and businesses from the chemical threat have been asked to evacuate as soon as possible.

Will McBride’s and Goddards be held liable for the disruption to businesses and to residents, caused by this evacuation? Fire has happened twice now with this company. After the first disruption and the dangers of a chemical fire to residents, why have they been allowed to open less than two miles west of previous location!

My surprise is how come Marshall was not on the scene with the mike and the cameras before him, expounding on what a wonderful job he was doing in this event.
Get in the Action and Boy Boy, because we in Barbados have no standards and the standards that we supposely have are corrupted by the sight and feel of money, hence we are able to get the PM to change the use of land from a zone area to one suitable for erecting condos and hotels if they wanted such.
But yet we want to throw people off lands because they have no where else to occupy or call home because so much of the available lands are now tied up in overseas persons use and the rest being owned by COW and after him being owned by Shorey, Wilkinson, Bannister, Nicholls and Owing.
After the fall from grace of this gang of crooks and when a new gov’t is elected to run the affairs of this country I trust that they will endeavour to hold these bastards accountable for their dishonest actions and criminal actions and make them repay the state for every cent that they have conspired to steal from us the tax payers of this island.

Not sure if it’s a political issue more so than just incompetence by Town Planning. The first fire did occur at the top of Thornbury Hill and may have been as far back as the DLP’s tenure. I might be wrong on that. No matter what, this highlights that chemical plants like this have no right near residential areas.
If this was the US the lawyers would be lining up for Class Action lawsuits brought by residents and businesses affected. I’ve already heard that some residents downwind were suffering from severe headaches today.
Get off it fellows. It was just a fire and it can happen anytime. You dems are something else.
Rumble~maybe so, but we think it goes back to Barbados making a getting a physical development plan which will help to plan how we allocate and manage our business on our 2×3 island. Last time we checked the PM is in charge of Town Planning!

Like I said – it’s not a political issue, but it’s about time that someone takes responsibility for screw-ups like this. Why the hell is a chemical plant allowed by either Dems or Bees so close to residential areas?
It seems that people in a 2 mile radius are being advised to stay out of the area (Durants, Banantyne, Newton etc). The Fire Service and the ancillary services may not get control of the smoke and chemicals until late tonight according to the Chief.
How in God’s name can you control smoke?

On another note the businesses in the area must have has a tough day, Ocean Park, Slumberfoam and the ones at Newton Industrial Park. Everything happening ,,,
Something must be wrong when a company could be razed twice in about 10 years. Which agency in Barbados is responsible for inspecting the premises of a company like Mcbrides? Like other investigations on the way, cave, joes river I am curious how this fire was started and could it have been prevented.
