Update: Our source has just reported the following which we have listed in bullet form for your easy understanding. If there are Barbadians at large who are privy to where the illegal African immigrants are hiding-out please do your civic duty and call the authorities.
- The Ambassador of Ghana who is based in Cuba has arranged a flight which is scheduled to arrive in Barbados tomorrow 02 May 2008. This arrangement was made in collaboration with the Barbados and Ghana governments
- The operative who arranged the flight from the Ghana to the Caribbean was in the custody of the Ghanaian authorities and negotiations took place to arrange for that operative to fund the return flight. It has been confirmed that jobs were being advertised via posters in Ghana with a pay rate of USD10.00 per hour
- A second flight which was scheduled to arrive in Barbados with other Ghanaians seeking job opportunities was cancelled after the stink of the scam started to come to light.
- The Pan African Commission in Barbados caught wind of the details of the coming of the Ghanaian Airlines two days before its arrival back in February 2008 and seized the moment to involve government to espouse the virtue of increasing tourism traffic from the Mother Country, Africa.
- Of note should be that when government intervened and rolled-out the red carpet treatment the local representative who collaborated with the Ghanaian operative was a no-show when the Ghanaian Airways flight touched down at Grantley Adams International Airport, this explains why Mr. Knight the local operative was seconded.
- Of the 50 Ghanaians who travelled on to Trinidad and Tobago two are in prison and the others are at large. This current state of affairs explains why the media in Trinidad has been cooped to disseminate the information about the planned return flight on Friday.
Earlier Story
The tireless Adrian Loveridge keeps going the extra mile to demonstrate how the concept of performing ones civic duty should be applied. All Barbadians have now reached a heightened state of disbelief, and some might add embarrassment concerning the Nigerians and Ghanaians who have been able to command entry into Barbados under what should have been suspicious circumstances. What is obvious to bystanders is the strong scent of a scam at work. Unsubstantiated reports to BU have fingered some very prominent people in this fiasco.

As usual we cannot wait on our media to get into the field to sniff out the meat to this story. We are on record as stating if we had disposable funds we would get on a plane to Ghana to ask the hard questions. We commend our government which has tried to handle this matter with a humanitarian biase. However we are of the view that the time has come to send some messages to people on the outside. They are foreigners outside of our shores who are of the view that the open door immigration policy of Barbados is ripe for exploitation. The unpatriotic acts of the Global AfriKan Congress and others who have been responsible for generating bad public relations for Barbados on this matter should be ashamed of themselves, it is truly an indictment of our touted educational system.
As the economic crisis takes root globally more people who currently live outside of Barbados will seek greener pastures. Commonsense supports the view that capacity planning and philosophical views must be in harmony. It is not good sense to explain the open door immigration policy of Barbados by saying our parents and grand parents were able to search out work in Panama, Guyana, Trinidad and others. We note that Senator Maxine McClean indicated very early on appointment to her ministry that the issue of immigration was high on her agenda.
We continue to wait on the new David Thompson government’s policy on our immigration policy going forward.

ha ha ha who are the prominent people involve? I know the black lion who writes on the BN blog is David Commissiong. Here is a well meaning person who continues to view the world through his beliefs and emotions only. Facts and reality doesn’t seem to factor in his make belief world. Poor fellow. Ikael Tafari has been very silent on this issue. Can’t we get a Sunday call in programme on this issue?

This matter has to be investigated and I already suspect that the powers that be have in their heads who are the main players in this scam at the Barbados end. I will be frank enough to say that these arrangements were made sometime in November last year and someone in the previous administration would have had to know what was going on. I would hope that the PM would expose these persons. I get the impression that these people from Ghana and Nigeria were told that Barbados is an easy port of entry. BUT YOU KNOW WHAT? ELECTIONS WERE CALLED IN JANUARY AND THE GOVERNMENT CHANGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
David // May 1, 2008 at 1:00 PM
It is being reported that arrangement has been made to fly the Ghanaians home on Friday as reported in the Newsday.

thanks for the update BU because I was unaware that thee is a flight planned to leave tomorrow? What is David Commisong and Trevor Lovell and these people saying? They were very load before but it seems to me they dont want the Africans to go back.
Has this story printed in Trinidad been published in Barbados?
David // May 1, 2008 at 1:39 PM
We want to pick up on the point which Tony Hall made i.e.this trip was planned in November last year. Good logic would suggest that former Minister of Tourism Noel ‘Barney’ Lynch should have been aware of the idea and eventual arrnagement to cart the Africans to the Caribbean.

Did anyone notice the small piece in the Nation today about two Bajans charged with assaulting a Ghanaian woman?
Wonder if that is the same case BFP brought to light days ago which the dead tree edition is now discovering?
Heaven // May 1, 2008 at 3:02 PM
Staff of Immgration and another Government department had expressed their reservations about this flight prior to its arrival in Barbados.David Commissiong and Trevor Prescod are using this situation to grand stand but sensible people know its a scam.
There are “big up’ people who are willing to exploit this country in order to make money.
David // May 1, 2008 at 3:10 PM
Heaven if what you have written is correct the laws of Barbados only allow a select few of government officials to over rule immigration officials. The Minister responsible of borders and the Prime Minister.

I have to commend BU (and BFP) for keeping us all updated. This thread is fascinating! When will the Nation or the Advocate catch up on this story?
I have not bought a dead tree paper for three years now, if I am interested in their content I visit their websites.
And yet, when I cite these blogs to my friends, they say, “Oh no, not for me, its all scandal, lies and gossip”.

Here is the link for SeasonTravel in Ghana.
An interesting sidebar to this story explains why the Trinidad government has been so hard on the Ghanaians. Our source has confirmed that there is an large number of Ghanaians in Trinidad, many are in prison and or working there illegally. It appears there is an illegal operation where Africans are being ferreted out of Ghana and Nigeria via Venezuela into &T.

I compliment when I have to and I also criticise when I also have to. Good job to BFP and BU for keeping this story active. The Nation and Advocate have been very lapse with this case. This is the type of story which should have brought out the journalistic acumen in some of these reporters in Barbados but they don’t seem to have the intestinal fortitude to go after stories like this one.

This event reeks of dishonesty and a scam, it will be revealed in the fullnest of time the real players behind the scenes that were making the money out of this event, I sincerely hope that the name Trevor Prescod does not get called for his association with this event, but I fear that it will.

I am a Barbadian living and working in Africa for the past four years. I am working with many africans of different countries including Nigerians and Ghanians as
colleagues.
They have clearly stated that those guys wanted to stay in the caribbean. Barbados is a very small country so it was difficult for them to hide. They are aware that the flight was an excursion to the caribbean and there will be no return flight for them. They know also that they wanted to settle in the Caribbean. Many Africans not only Ghanians and Nigerians but many other nationals from across the continent always tell me Barbados is very beautiful.
Please note that these guys are also into internet scam letters requesting your personal information, bank details etc. My brothers and sisters in Barbados, don’t be caught on the greedy and become victims of these doctors and barristers at law.
David // May 2, 2008 at 5:57 AM
More information coming to hand suggest that some of the Africans are aware of the scam and some were duped. Of interest to the authorities, it seem that the plane load of Africans are out of pocket monies for airfare as well as a PAYMENT which had to oaid to make the trip to the promise land. DAvid Commisong et al should be aware by now that this is not a straight forward matter and it is important that he and his African sympathisers BACK-off.
By the way shouldn’t Doctor Ikeil Tafari be involved in unravelling this fiasco?

David he most certainly is connected to this scam so to Trevor Prescod and David Commisong if you cast your mind back far enough this Ikeil Tafari was involved in hosting a conference that went over budget by over a million dollars, it appears that his ability to manage money affairs is sadly lacking.
It seems to me that there is a close relationship between Prescod and these same Ghanaians as he has been seen carrying out meetings with them in recent days.

Amazing that they are some ignorant Barbadians harbouring these Africans despite the call from the government for the 16 illegal Africans to turn themselves in. According to a news report this evening only two of the sixteen surrendered to immigration officials. Not only should the other Africans be tossed in prison when found but those Barbadians who have been aiding and abetting should be made to give them company.
Monica // May 2, 2008 at 8:39 PM
David,
You are a real baboon.
Who says that the remaining 14 Africans are still in Barbados?
And even if they are, what makes you so sure that they are being hidden by BARBADIANS? There are plenty of people of other nationalities living in Barbados, including Ghanaians, Nigerians and other Africans.
Think before you write next time to avoid posting such foolishness.
Monica.
John // May 2, 2008 at 11:47 PM
They are being asked to turn themselves in so the immigration authorities must think they are still in Barbados too.
Until they are located these autorities cannot act otherwise even though these 14 may have somehow slipped out of Barbados.
To act otherwise would be to admit our ports of entry and exit are not secure.
I suspect they have asked foreign police services for help in locating them as well as us Barbadians.
There will probably be the few who used the many to camouflage their real intentions. A pity it took so long to get down to the nitty gritty.

David, u write what u want to write and take no notice of Monica! I fully, agree with what you’ve said. I’m not fully, acquainted with all of the facts of this case but, why were they not imprisoned permanently, in the first place, until they were expelled from our country!

Inquiring Housewife // May 3, 2008 at 12:15 PM
Monica u are really silly not David. If u were aware of much you would be aware that all persons leaving B’dos legally would do so through the airport or sea port and they would have to show a passport, sign a departure slip and pay the departure tax. so tell me oh wise one how would the government not know they have left. silly lady come again. David keep going strong my brother
Inquiring Housewife // May 3, 2008 at 12:20 PM
I believe that the government should investigate the updating of our immigration site at the airport and seaport and put in that photo scan that one sees in the US. If they had it now then instead of the names on the tv they could post pictures as well so we can see what these men look like and notify the police when we see them.
This would not only make sense for this situation but would be another way of accurately noting how many persons enter BIM daily or yearly.

There is one Ghanaian who was on the flight that came in February 2008,His name is AUGUSTINE ADDAE. This guy is a very dangerous guy who has succeeded in defrauding a number of people in Ghana here with the promise of getting them Auction cars. He was a staff of GHAPOHA and he resides in Tema. Please he is needed in Ghana as soon as possible to face those charges. He is a threat to your country and I pray that you throw him away from your Country. We are waiting for Him especially and the others. Do not let him convince you in any way.

Knowledge // May 5, 2008 at 4:44 PM
I know of a Guest house owner who accommodated 13 Ghanians -10 men and three women. One of which was the same Augustine who Yeboah has indicated is wanted for a crime.
They arrived through at the Guest House on the pretext of being tourist and were given relevant information for them to plan visits to places of interest . The Owner offered to assist them with their siteseeing but this offer was never taken up. Instead they laid around the house , and visited town and a nearby supermarket frequently .
After two unsuccessful attempts to enter Trinidad they found more affordable accommodation leaving a sum of money which they promised to pay on receipt of funds from their homeland the following day. This day never came .
Subsequently they promised to pay the debt from proceeds expected from a refund on the Airline tickets to Trinidad .The leader of the group one Julius Okyne visited the guest house on several occasions but always had an excuse for not paying. It was subsequently found out that they had already received the refund on the tickets all the while promising faithfully to pay the outstanding debt from the expected refund.
It is also understood that one of the females of the group is now visibly pregnant for her husband who is reported to be one of the group members. This couple never disclosed their maritial status and were accommodated in separate rooms. Not only have they left owing money for accommodation.
There is now no communication between the group and the Guest house owner.
Lots of Barbadians are being led to believe that these Africans were left stranded and are victims of a scam but based on this Guest House Owner’s Experience and other information obtained this was a carefully thought out plan. Even the airport was fooled because they apparently had return tickets but had only paid for one way.
BARBADIANS TAKE NOTE AND STOP BEING FOOLED BY THESE CUNNING AFRICANS

Inquiring Housewife // May 7, 2008 at 7:40 AM
I see from the Daily Nation that the ’stranded ‘ Africans will be on their way home today by charter flight. Let us wish them a safe flight and blessings. I am sure that those still trying to get here will get a firm message from this. I also hope that the Government of Barbados will with great haste beef up our immigration policies and install photo scans at the air and sea ports as this incident shows we need to know who is on our little rock.
Edward // May 7, 2008 at 1:48 PM
I highly doubt they were running a scam to come to Barbados to work. If they were running a scam it was probably to got to Canada or the USA!! If there is no proof for that then, there is probably no scam!!
Knowledge // May 7, 2008 at 2:26 PM
Yeboah should be taken seriously. I believe
Augustine will never surrender willingly . Imagine what would happen to Barbados if the only ones left are the criminals who would find difficulty in finding work because of their status. Augustine even asked the guesthouse owner to hook him up with a bajan who would marry him, and he talked about bringing in cars to sell.
thebajan // May 7, 2008 at 3:51 PM
Barbadians be aware that Barbados is one of the favourable places to live besides the US and Canada. These people can find ways to legalize there Status, next a Barbadian Passport and travel on.
I have worked beside a Ghanian, and he told me
anything will be done to get to Barbados, I spoke
to a Nigerian , I told him of the plight of the West Africans, first thing he said was scam..
Barbadians have lots to be thankful for, we must
not be duped by scammers. Bimbro sounds more like Dumbro. Housewife you do not have
to respond to Dumbro who was shell shocked to
know you had a degree, personal attacks are used by those who have nothing to offer to serious debate, Dumbro have serious insecurities which I will leave alone.
The Africans were asked to turn themselves in, if not in Barbados ,Barbadians have further evidence of the scams of these Africans.
Warrior // May 7, 2008 at 9:51 PM
There should be a concentrated effort to rid Barbados of the illegal immigrants contained therein especially those who add no value but rather bring criminality and a level of dependency that is detrimental to this country.
This whole issue got me so peed off it is like we want to pretend that these Africans mean us no harm. They don’t like us and still want to languish themselves around the place.
Because we are not able to properly police our borders, more of this type of thing will happen.
Someone please tell me the ratio of Guyanese to Barbadians. I thought we had learnt our lesson with the Guyanese; it seems not.

It’s sad that i have to read about this on a
Ghanaian -website . Where is the BBC, now?
if I have understood the
article correctly –
It spells out clearly – the intentions
of some of the “stranded” passengers – at Least 43 of them knew of the diverted flight plan before flight even took off!
Some of 43 Ghanaians – repatriated at our shared expense – are now
taking “Duncan” to court, trying to be refunded,
by this Duncan guy for not being able to obtain, visas, $10 an hour jobs in Trinidad and the cost of the intended 20 day hotel stays – WHEN THEY WERE ONLY
supposed to be in the Caribbean for 2 weeks !!!
if this is true?
Passengers – purchasing blocks of
43 airline tickets to Barbados with ulterior motives in mind, like Duncan should have been screened prior, flagged – the proper authorities on this island, alerted and purged from the list
before the inaugural flight to Barbados.
I am now curious
about the similar “operation hault” mentioned in the article – the same scenario
with stranded Ghanaian tourist only
using the Mediterranean as an entry point.

Still Missing! ( june 10th)
ABOUT a dozen Africans, now deemed to have overstayed their welcome in Barbados, are still at large. This was disclosed yesterday by Attorney-General Freundel Stuart, who warned the group, originally part of close to 100 visiting Ghanaians and Nigerians stranded here for nearly four months, they would bear the consequences of the islands laws if “rounded up”.

Well isn’t that a sorry storey. Nigeria is a country with a history of citizens lying to take advantage of well meaning persons. Just look at all the get rich quick schemes that ply the Internet.
I am so often bewildered by the naiveté of the citizens of the “have” nations and their obliviousness (is that a word?) to the draw they have on the poor unfortunates of the “have-nots” of the world.
Bajuns know this: your little island is a PARADISE, not just because it is in a great climate zone although that is nice, but because you have a society with a reasonably sized middle class and that translates into a safe and secure society.
Never split the middle into the ends otherwise the demise of a safe a secure society will surely follow.
When I visit your island I am so pleased with the manners, and respect that the citizens have for each other. This has to be nurtured and encouraged and supported continuously or it will be eroded like the sands on the beach and washed away.
Ever try to recover a beach once washed away?
That is Barbados, keep it safe and secure, and be courageous in your demands from your authorities to do their job in protecting what you have. I love your country and if I were to ever choose to live in the Caribbean it would be Barbados first and foremost. Don’t believe for a moment these visitors had honourable intentions. Who can blame them? Not I, yet that does not release you the Bajun people from being the gatekeepers of your island, for if you are not it will something other than what it is.
TT immigrants, thanks to the darn Caricom, have already shown you some of the ill effects of not being stalwart gatekeepers.
Alas I have gone on far too long so I will shut it up.
Cheers
p.s. Stay the course

Unless Barbados’ AG plans to charter another flight to Ghana (expensive), or unless he plans to send the remaining Africans to New Dodds for ever (even more expensive and likely unlawful) pray tell me what is he going to do with the Africnas when they are “rounded up”
I think that both the Africans and the authorities know that Barbados will remain the home of thers Africans.
Saw one of the guys the other day, long after the others had left, doing his shopping as regular as any Bajan.

Nigerian Arrested for Attempted FCFA 28 Million Dupe
The Post learnt that Ogbonna arrived at the church headquarters in Kumba and introduced himself as an “Apostolic Christian from Barbados in the Caribbean Island.” He told the president of the church, Apostle Paul Tambe that he is a worker of Shell Petroleum Development Company International and fellowship with the Apostolic Church in Barbados.
The Nigerian reportedly told Apostle Tambe that the Church in Barbados has been offering scholarships to African countries and Cameroon has been earmarked for this year.Ogbonna allegedly said he has been sent to screen about 2000 youths from the church who shall each pay a registration fee of 35 US dollars (FCFA 14,000), prior to the interview. He equally stated that the fee was non refundable.

re:
Wave of Africans taking over security in TT
By CAROL MATROO Sunday, July 13 2008
A growing number of illegal immigrants from Africa – predominantly Ghana and Nigeria – are being absorbed into the TT workforce, particularly as security officers, and this is worrying local security concerns. Escalating crime in the country has prompted this development.
Many foreigners are lured to this country by a red flyer which promises a great life. Ghanaians, for example, were encouraged to come to TT to live and work for a minimum wage of US$10 an hour. One of the flyers was discovered on one of the men. Immigration officials believe this is being used to get Ghanaians to TT with the promise of better living and working conditions.
The name of the company involved was given as the New Ghana Youth Development Association. Several attempts to contact those in charge of the company were futile. Although contact was made once, the person at the other end, speaking with a barely understandable African accent, said this reporter would have to call back. When we called back there was no answer and all attempts to contact this company has failed.

Is it true that a Ghanaian by name Augustine Addae has been rounded up and imprisoned in Barbados? I called the Sister here in Ghana and I was told that He was arrested and has been imprisoned in Barbados. I want to know if it is true. He should just be imprisoned forever!!!!!

IMr. David Commisong strikes me as an idiot who needs to wake up and smell the coffee.
Barbados belongs to Barbadians. While I have no objection to africans visiting, Staying in Barbados is out of the questions. They are extremely greedy and tend to gravitate to criminal scams that have cost Great Britain; our Motherland and America a lot of money to their innnocent citizens. I do not want to read that Barbadians are losing they savings to these morons’ whims.
Yeboah // September 8, 2009 at 5:40 AM
I have just been told this morning that Augustine Addae has been released from prison. Can somebody tell me whether it is true or not. He should please be repatriated to Ghana immediately. Bajans watch out for Him. We need Him here in Ghana to pay back the various sums of monies He collected from unsuspecting victims.

I think we must be caught napping when it comes to these African scams. they are doing it all over the world and they are using the internet to do it. It is not helping their cause because the world is becoming sick of African and nobody trust them.
Hopi // October 22, 2009 at 9:53 AM
@Birdbrain………How is it that the world is becoming sick of Africans and nobody trust them, YET those that have scammed, lied, pillaged, stolen and murdered their way to the top are IDOLISED, CHERISHED, IMITATED, LOVED & HONOURED and WORSHIPPED! What did the African do to you?
