I have just been told this morning that Augustine Addae has been released from prison. Can somebody tell me whether it is true or not. He should please be repatriated to Ghana immediately. Bajans watch out for Him. We need Him here in Ghana to pay back the various sums of monies He collected from unsuspecting victims.

IMr. David Commisong strikes me as an idiot who needs to wake up and smell the coffee.

Barbados belongs to Barbadians. While I have no objection to africans visiting, Staying in Barbados is out of the questions. They are extremely greedy and tend to gravitate to criminal scams that have cost Great Britain; our Motherland and America a lot of money to their innnocent citizens. I do not want to read that Barbadians are losing they savings to these morons' whims.

re:

Wave of Africans taking over security in TT
By CAROL MATROO Sunday, July 13 2008

A growing number of illegal immigrants from Africa – predominantly Ghana and Nigeria – are being absorbed into the TT workforce, particularly as security officers, and this is worrying local security concerns. Escalating crime in the country has prompted this development.

Many foreigners are lured to this country by a red flyer which promises a great life. Ghanaians, for example, were encouraged to come to TT to live and work for a minimum wage of US$10 an hour. One of the flyers was discovered on one of the men. Immigration officials believe this is being used to get Ghanaians to TT with the promise of better living and working conditions.

The name of the company involved was given as the New Ghana Youth Development Association. Several attempts to contact those in charge of the company were futile. Although contact was made once, the person at the other end, speaking with a barely understandable African accent, said this reporter would have to call back. When we called back there was no answer and all attempts to contact this company has failed.

fr. the today's news

Nigerian Arrested for Attempted FCFA 28 Million Dupe

The Post learnt that Ogbonna arrived at the church headquarters in Kumba and introduced himself as an "Apostolic Christian from Barbados in the Caribbean Island." He told the president of the church, Apostle Paul Tambe that he is a worker of Shell Petroleum Development Company International and fellowship with the Apostolic Church in Barbados.
The Nigerian reportedly told Apostle Tambe that the Church in Barbados has been offering scholarships to African countries and Cameroon has been earmarked for this year.Ogbonna allegedly said he has been sent to screen about 2000 youths from the church who shall each pay a registration fee of 35 US dollars (FCFA 14,000), prior to the interview. He equally stated that the fee was non refundable.

Unless Barbados' AG plans to charter another flight to Ghana (expensive), or unless he plans to send the remaining Africans to New Dodds for ever (even more expensive and likely unlawful) pray tell me what is he going to do with the Africnas when they are "rounded up"

I think that both the Africans and the authorities know that Barbados will remain the home of thers Africans.

Saw one of the guys the other day, long after the others had left, doing his shopping as regular as any Bajan.

Well isn't that a sorry storey. Nigeria is a country with a history of citizens lying to take advantage of well meaning persons. Just look at all the get rich quick schemes that ply the Internet.
I am so often bewildered by the naiveté of the citizens of the "have" nations and their obliviousness (is that a word?) to the draw they have on the poor unfortunates of the "have-nots" of the world.
Bajuns know this: your little island is a PARADISE, not just because it is in a great climate zone although that is nice, but because you have a society with a reasonably sized middle class and that translates into a safe and secure society.
Never split the middle into the ends otherwise the demise of a safe a secure society will surely follow.
When I visit your island I am so pleased with the manners, and respect that the citizens have for each other. This has to be nurtured and encouraged and supported continuously or it will be eroded like the sands on the beach and washed away.
Ever try to recover a beach once washed away?
That is Barbados, keep it safe and secure, and be courageous in your demands from your authorities to do their job in protecting what you have. I love your country and if I were to ever choose to live in the Caribbean it would be Barbados first and foremost. Don't believe for a moment these visitors had honourable intentions. Who can blame them? Not I, yet that does not release you the Bajun people from being the gatekeepers of your island, for if you are not it will something other than what it is.
TT immigrants, thanks to the darn Caricom, have already shown you some of the ill effects of not being stalwart gatekeepers.
Alas I have gone on far too long so I will shut it up.

Cheers

 p.s. Stay the course

Still Missing! ( june 10th)

ABOUT a dozen Africans, now deemed to have overstayed their welcome in Barbados, are still at large. This was disclosed yesterday by Attorney-General Freundel Stuart, who warned the group, originally part of close to 100 visiting Ghanaians and Nigerians stranded here for nearly four months, they would bear the consequences of the islands laws if "rounded up".

A lot of people in Barbados were tricked by these 'stranded Africans' . Commisiong is reportedly 'a little shocked'
Attention must be paid to the ones still here. A reward for information leading to the capture of anyone of them should flush out those still living in Barbados.
One of those sent back has indicated his intentions of returning

If the reports are true the Ghana government appears to be investigating full steam ahead!

<blockquote><a href="http://www.thestatesmanonline.com/pages/news_detail.php?newsid=6376&section=1" rel="nofollow">CEO dupes Barbados returnees</a>
Gilbert Boyefio , 22/05/2008

The Chief Executive Officer of the New Ghana Youth Development Association, an NGO, Frank Emmanuel Duncan, has been remanded into police custody by an Accra Circuit Court for defrauding and issuing false cheque to a returnee from Barbados.

Duncan is facing two counts of offences, namely defrauding by false pretences and issuing of false cheque. His plea was not taken by the court.

Presenting the facts of the case to the court, ASP George Abavelin, said the complainant, Gideon Ansah Boateng of Tepa, Ashanti, was one of the returnees from Barbados.

He said somewhere in October 2007, Frank Emmanuel Duncan embarked on a mission to stop the incident of Ghanaians traveling to Spain and Italy through Libya with boat across the Mediterranean Sea.

He told the court that Frank Duncan's NGO therefore started an operation named "Operation Halt", and through this initiative started organizing a group of young men with the intention of operating a charter flight to Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean where transit Visa will be obtained for the continuation of the journey.

The court was told that in January 2008, Frank Duncan, organised 38 people, including the complainant, to be sent to Trinidad and Tobago. He is said to have gone on radio to speak about his package for each person worth $5000 US dollars.

He also made a promise of an all inclusive package including 20 days hotel accommodation, job with a minimum pay of $10 US dollars per hour and insurance. The accused later saw an advertisement from Season Travel and Tour organizing a two weeks vacation tour to Barbados also in the Caribbean.

He went to Seasons Travel and Tour and bought 43 air tickets worth $1999 US dollars each for his group after collecting $5000.00 per person and put them onboard a Ghana International Air flight to Barbados on January 31, 2008.

The prosecution said the accused could not fulfill the promise made to the complainants in Trinidad so they started demanding for a refund. Frank Duncan as a result issued a Barclays Bank cheque number 346642 with the face value of GH¢3,000.00 to one of the complainant, Gideon Ansah Boateng from whom he collected a VW Vento saloon car with registration number GR 548 W valued GH¢3,000.00, as part payment.

Upon arrival in Ghana, the complainant presented the cheque to the Bank but it was dishonored and subsequently reported the case to the police which led to the arrest of the accused person.

The prosecution told the court that the other complainants reside in various regions of the country but are coming from the regions to assist in further investigation.

The case has been adjourned to May 27 for further investigation.</blockquote>

He told the court that Frank Duncan’s NGO therefore started an operation named “Operation Halt”, and through this initiative started organizing a group of young men with the intention of operating a charter flight to Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean where transit Visa will be obtained for the continuation of the journey.

The case has been adjourned to May 27 for further investigation.

It's sad that i have to read about this on a
Ghanaian -website . Where is the BBC, now?

if I have understood the
article correctly -

It spells out clearly - the intentions
of some of the "stranded" passengers - at Least 43 of them knew of the diverted flight plan before flight even took off!

Some of 43 Ghanaians - repatriated at our shared expense - are now
taking "Duncan" to court, trying to be refunded,
by this Duncan guy for not being able to obtain, visas, $10 an hour jobs in Trinidad and the cost of the intended 20 day hotel stays - WHEN THEY WERE ONLY
supposed to be in the Caribbean for 2 weeks !!!

if this is true?

Passengers - purchasing blocks of
43 airline tickets to Barbados with ulterior motives in mind, like Duncan should have been screened prior, flagged - the proper authorities on this island, alerted and purged from the list
before the inaugural flight to Barbados.

I am now curious
about the similar "operation hault" mentioned in the article - the same scenario
with stranded Ghanaian tourist only
using the Mediterranean as an entry point.

If this report is true it exposes the urgent need for the Barbados government to respond on this side of the pond. Certainly there must have been complicity on the part of someone in Barbados.

We continue to wait to see how the Barbados authority responds.

i'm new to this site. soo hi. Bajans are new to i believe such scams in their country. There are seen everyday on the internet. havent any of you ever gotten that email from an african who says his father passed and away and left him money but wants your account number to put the money in? or something to such affect?

Bajans have always been helpful people but they need to know when a scam is a scam. i'm young but i clearly saw this was a scam. Ppl around the world believe Barbados is Eutopia. Government needs to put strict immigration laws in place so this never happens again. The world has seen this. So lets keep our eyes and ears open. i'm sure there will be more to come.
