If we judge from many of our atheletes through the years who have won athletic scholarships and in quick time dropped the sports and pursued academics. It is because they understand the culture of Barbados and the expectations. We hope that Byer-Suckoo will be able to build a national program that can galvanize sports as a viable avenue for success of any Barbadian with the talent and inclination.

Sport in B'dos has always been treated badly by both parties. Why should a sportman/woman be subjected to the whims and fancies of an employer to represent Barbados? Some of them have to decide between the job and representation. How then can they do of their best under these conditions. Yet when they succeed, you will see the sports minister and all kind of dignitaries welcoming them back home. Yes we mekking sport at sports

There are at least two fundamental reasons why SPORTS in Barbados, at any time, WILL NEVER EVER develop properly unless a future PDC Government comes on stream in Barbados:

1) The appropriate political, material, and financial basis for the proper development of SPORTS - in almost ALL aspects - has NEVER been laid in Barbados. Just carry out an analysis of cricket and its administration in Barbados presently and one would find that whereas cricket would have appeared to have fairly well prospered in the past - especially at the time when the West Indies team was doing well in world cricket - and, yes, for many social political colonial social elitist reasons at the time, cricket is clearly terribly in crisis at this juncture in Barbados. Simply look at many of the reasons why cricket is foundering in Barbados at this juncture and one would see that there has NEVER EVER been laid the right basis for the proper development of cricket and other sports in Barbados.

Football is the biggest mass-based ,mass-appeal sport in Barbados, and the sport with the biggest potential to develop further in Barbados, yet it has NEVER been able to get the maximum governmental and private sector support to build the important infrastructure that is needed to take football to the highest possible levels in Barbados. Again, the political, material, and financial basis has NEVER EVER been laid for the proper development of football and other sports in Barbados.

While many people in Barbados make the puerile and unstudied claim that motor sport is the fastest growing sport in Barbados, the truth is that NOT ONLY is it NOT developing in the truest sense of the term, BUT ALSO the sport is highlighting how so many of the masses and middle classes still seek social validation and integration into things elitist, while many other masses/middle classes-organised sports in Barbados suffer terribly from a lack of that kind and level of interest and attention -basketball, volleyball, etc. Anyhow, whatever high level of activity that is seen in the locations of rallies/speed events/dexterity tests/in the country, is directly traceable to the knowledge and understanding that many of the elites in Barbados have that thousands of masses and middle classes of people in Barbados have and do like cars more than ever before, and what these vehicles offer in terms of aerodynamics, speed/acceleration capabilities, etc, and how they (these particular elites) will therefore be able to benefit greatly from such by doing more to have motor sports highlighted in the country . And, much of this interest in motor sport in the country is being fuelled by the connections between the locally and/or regionally elite owned traditional vehicle dealers/these vehicle dealers/the overseas manufacturers of these vehicles/many international rallyists/the elitist rallyists who are owners of/workers at these vehicle dealerships/ the locally and regionally elite/middle-class owned media houses that are the intermediaries between the vehicle dealerships cum advertisers and the many, many motor sports enthusiasts in Barbados, etc. Again, these kind of elitist-led heirachical relationships do show that the political, material and financial basis for the sound development of motor sports and other sports in Barbados has NEVER EVER been laid; and

2) Whereas many countries of the West, the USA and the UK made sure that the political, material and financial foundations were laid for the development of the most popular of their sports - to the extent that these countries have long been able to export them to our region and other regions across the world, we in this region have NEVER EVER laid our OWN political, material, and financial basis for the sound and orderly development of these Western-centric sports that are played in Barbados, to the extent that we have been capable of securing esp. post colonial success in the development of them and the other indigenous sports that we have in Barbados. Of course, part of the political, material and financial basis of the West's development of sport had lain in their enslavement, colonialization, and imperialization of our region and other regions, and the benefits that they would have been able to, and still now, directly derive from such horrifics;

For sure, if Barbados is to properly and orderly develop sports in Barbados, then there must be the election of a PDC Government that shall secure the Abolition of ALL Taxation; the Abolition of Interest Rates; the Abolition of Motor Vehicle Insurance; the Abolition of ALL exchange Rates parities with the Barbados Dollar; making sure that Imports of Goods and Services - including sporting goods and services - are zero-"priced" at all points of entry; making sure that Constituents are able to debate and pass the laws of this country, among which would be laws and policies to make sure that sports in Barbados get the necessary legislative and political and financial support from the constituents themselves who will invariably be connected with these sports in the country.

I wondered how the BFA and Ronald Toppin could fire their two coaches but members of the exec get to hold on to their jobs. I suppose we have to wait until the next election.

Why doesn't the government take over all the lotteries? Who should a few benefit at the expense of all?
