Video compliments of BU family member
With the many deportees who are being exported to Barbados from the United States Barbadians should expect that ‘lock bumping’ will become part of the criminal landscape very soon. it seems that the technology has been around for several years and with the emergence of the Internet information can now be easily sourced.
We urge the BU family to take the necessary precautions.

About a year ago, I passed and saw a couple people trying to help a young lady retrieve her keys from a locked car. It was difficult because the lock was on the side of the door and not the top near the window. A young man on a bicycle rode up and offered to open the door for a fee. The young lady obliged. He asked that everyone move and he took something from his pocket and in a few seconds he had the door opened, received his money was on his bike ans rode away. I later understand that he was a US deportee. The Barbados police is so far behind.

@The Scout
What has this got to do with the Police?

I have been reading BU for several weeks now with great interest and always found it most interesting and informative. I do this time have a question.
Why are the Americans sending deportees to Barbados? or have I missed something?

The poilce in Barbados are way behind in the methods used by these deportees. That’s one of the reasons why so many unsolved crimes are committed today. We need to train a squad into the sophisticated mothods these guys are retrurning with.

@The scout
We asked you to clarify because we wondered even if the police knew of the lock bumping and we are giving them the credit what can they do to detect/prevent crime?

I have to agree with Scout on this one. The NYPD has a squad which is trained in investigating these types of sophicticated crimes. I see nothing wrong with the Gov’t spending some money and sending a group of about 6 detectives to New York or even Virginia on a training course. It would be well worth it. The criminals have become so good with so called sophisticated electronic crimes that they are leaps and bounds ahead of the RBPF.

It does not have to be Barbadian who has been deported, for these types of crimes to be take place on shore. It could easily be someone who has never stepped foot out of Barbados carrying out the act.
Many of these scenarios are played out on TV — we don’t have to look very far. We need to stop putting most of the blame on those who have been returned due to a criminal offense(s) for some of the criminal activities that are going on.
Years ago in the US, a 7 yr old watched a movie that consist of robbery. The next day he went into a bank and held it up with a toy gun. Apparently he was well built for his age. He took some of the money and bought candy for himself and his friends. When he was captured he said “he saw it done on TV and he wanted to see what it felt like.”

Dear Phodetheus:
Americans send deportees to Barbados because the deportees are foreigners have committed crimes in America.
American does not deport Americans even those born overseas.
America does not deport foreigners who obey the law.
If foreigners come to Barbados and disobey the law should we not deport them too?
Are you suggesting that either America or Barbados should spank foreign criminals on the hand and let them out into the society again?
Phodetheus // September 6, 2008 at 2:43 AM
Hi J
Sorry my question was phrased very badly and I should have made myself much clearer.
The article gave me the impression that America was deporting non Bajan citizens to Barbados, which now I think about it is probably not the case at all and I feel a little silly. Although from personal experience of the Americans I wouldn’t put anything past them.

Tony Hall has answered the query for me and he has done that perfectly. I too know that this is /was a major problem in the States especially N.Y and the NYPD has been able not to eliminate it but reduce it tremendously. We have to move with the times. That’s not the only area that the police is lagging.
