Tonight Prime Minister David Thompson faced the nation one year after assuming office. Barbadians may well feel satisfied that compared to previous governments the Prime Minister has been accessible to the Barbados media. As a footnote, most glaring was the absence of CBC Head of News Richard Cox. The nights event was moderated by CBC’s Michelle Arthur
Here are our thoughts about some of the issues raised during the press conference.
Economy
We were not able to discern that there is a clear-cut strategy mapped to manage the Barbados economy through the anticipated economic crisis. The Prime Minister although he referred to some projects in construction, housing and a few other initiatives to be started shortly, we are not happy with the wait and see approach. We don’t have to be an economist to know that there is a lag period which would impact the rollout of economic policies. Our gut suggests that the Prime Minister is holding a few cards close to his chest.
Corruption
The Hardwood matter and the progress of government investigations into corruption was discussed. Without regurgitating the details our conclusion is that the government is moving on. Any expectation by Barbadians which were fuelled in the last election that former government ministers et al would have found themselves before the law courts or prison may have become a distant desire. Prime Minister Thompson’s position has now changed to: he is not the police and is not in a position to prosecute matters. While this is true Prime Minister the tenor of your responses on the questions of corruption seems to have changed in the opinion of the humble BU household. After listening to the Prime Minister expound on this matter a sense of déjà vu overwhelmed us – business as usual it seems to be.
Immigration
The Prime Minister admitted that a major shake-up is on the way for the immigration Department. He declined to go into detail on the grounds of national security but he did confirm that an amnesty will be coming, especially for immigrants effected by the negligence of government i.e. misplaced files containing applications etc. He confirmed that the change in immigration policy will affect Guyanese most because they represent the biggest immigrant group in Barbados. Again we sense some shenanigans will likely occur on this matter. Our advice to the government if we were able to give it, this is not a matter for politics, the quality of life which Barbadians have come to enjoy is under threat. We concede that it is a messy matter and your sub-committee needs time to properly draft a rigorous and effective policy, we sense the patience of Barbadians maybe running thin on this one. The administrative issue which the Prime Minister referred to which is slowing work permit processing needs to be communicated to James Paul MP and Minister Benn who have alluded in the media to work permit challenges which is affecting efficiency in the agricultural sector.
Other
The issue of confusion on the byways of Barbados was addressed. The PSV issue appears to be active consideration. The sluggish progress on CSME rollout and a few other mundane matters.
Conclusion
Overall the Prime Minister appeared very comfortable in his role and very easily fielded the simple questions lobbed the local press. It seems that he utilized an aggressive posture when he had to interact with veteran journalist David Ellis of VOB. Perhaps he recognized that Ellis provided the biggest threat of those present and it was his deliberate strategy to place Ellis on the defensive.
We applaud the Prime Minister for making himself available to the PEOPLE, our hope now is for the local media personnel to leverage Thompson’s willingness to make himself available by exercising different strategies to source more meaningful information from the Prime Minister. In this regard we suggest the format of the press conference be changed.
Let journalists jostle for the eye of the Prime Minister to ask questions, the current format makes the exercise too passive and easy for the politically savvy Thompson to negotiate.

……………………………………………………
Wrong David, the PM was on the defensive even before his nemesis could open his mouth. David vs David – the battle royale.
Let journalists jostle for the eye of the Prime Minister to ask questions, the current format makes the exercise too passive and easy for the politically savvy Thompson to negotiate.
————————————————-
I agree whole heartedly with this statement!
Like you, I applaud the P.M for making himself available to the public. I think the questioning was a bit more aggressive than the interview previous, yet I think they allowed the P.M to jostle them into a corner by not pursuing the line of the more pertinent questions. The P.M was clever in just giving the public a glimpse of his policies without divulging much. One thing which came across forcefully is for ALL barbadians to rise to the occasion and assist where-ever possible to see Barbados through this critical period . In all. I give the Address/ Interview a passing grade of about 85%. I look forward to more reports to the nation from the P.M
I did not catch the whole program but what I saw indicated that the format is very PM friendly, which is no surprise, and he would wish to avoid being ambushed. That should happen in Parliament, where he also has good cover under the immunity rules.
The PM spoke more clearly on immigration issues, saying that policy was not changed but rules are being applied correctly and that some admin snafus are resulting. He has an issue in ensuring that this message, if correct, is the one put out consistently. Barbados needs migrants because Bajans alone cannot keep the economy going. Provisions for migrants (entry/exit procedures, housing, social services, etc.) need to be applied consistently and clearly. Of course, there will be politics because bashing foreigners is easy, especially as they often do not vote.
On the economy, like you, I sensed no STRATEGY, though lots of useful THINGS may be happening.
The PM’s stance with the questioners fitted their approach to him, but I too would like to see the PM in a more open forum, where perhaps he could be pressured more and perhaps ambushed outside Parliament.
We don’t know The Scout but he was conspicuos by his absence. Bare in mind that Michelle did not ask questions.
livinginbarbados
immunity is only covered on the floor of Parliament when it is sitting. I doubt that for an interview in Parliament Buildings there could be any immunity. In this case, Parliament is merely just another building.
David
I thought, as moderator, she allowed the questions to flow from the panel smoothly, unlike Cox who tried to dominate the panel. She handled herself well. Well done Michelle.
David
Maybe next time they would ask BU to join the panel.
Ellis what is wrong with you? … the PM had to go over your questions over and over, and then you seem to want to dominate the show with your bombarding repeating questions.
If that was your former PM you would be cussed out the show, but then again i don’t think you would have gotten so many questions in.
Anyway i thought the show was well and the public got a glimpse into what is happening especially with the immigration, finally something seems to be going on and bajans will happy again.
The only positive thing I will say is, I commend the PM for giving a ‘news conference’ — it’s something we didn’t to get to see with Owing.
But it’s almost weird that he, as it is with so many other Government Ministers, have … after all this time … never learned how to present themselves and speak in a clear and interesting way.
We see the PH humming and droaning with sentences a mile long. Is this a purposeful tactic to lull people to sleep?
Hardly an expression on his face.
Then there are the boring and for-the-ten-millionth-time repeated cliche phrases … two of which I copy for today’s Nation … “put in place” “against the backdrop” … two others: “in terms of” “looking at” .
Listen to Obama, even George Bush, and all effective speakers, and you notice they speak in short sentences, maybe 20 words maximum and you do not hear cliche phrases. You NEVER hear them rambling on and on in an expressionless montone, – like a path in the woods that leads to nowhere.
And we talk about ‘education.’ ? ? ?
Explain it to me, please.
centipede
If this is all the complaints, then he did a good job. For me it was the substance that mattered. We try to equate ourselves to the USA to much.
Do you get the sense that the Prime Minister is looking to the tourism performance indicator in quarter 2 to shape government’ economic response?
At the moment it is to observe global events.
With the drastic drop in oil prices globally and the increase of Cruise Tourism in the country, I believe the P.M is taking a cautious approach to the economy in the second quarter. Don’t forget the most money from tourism comes from those affluent tourists who have massive homes on the west coast. Some of these guys are capable in keeping this government afloat and in some cases they will at a cost. That’s what I’m afraid of. Don’t forget the fairy godfather in Sandie’s time
Hotels, especially the smaller ones, should start a ” vacation at home” programme, to save some much needed foreign exchange. Special incentives to Companies who encourage their staff to participate in the programme by offering staff one or two free nights in addition to their normal stay.
@CENTIPEDE
Short sentences like
Read my lips!
I did not have sex with that woman.
The economy is not in recession.
What I see here is a lack of critical analysis of the press conference and the willingness of commentators to go easy on the “new” government.
If I was one of the journalists on the panel, my first, second and third question would be why have you Mr Prime Minister reneged on the promise which in great part was responsible for your winning the last election, the passing of integrity legislation within the first 100 days of your administration, to protect the country from the rampant corruption of which you accused the last administration? Do we just expect more of the same? What? I can’t hear you!!
David you can’t seriously be giving the PM a pass on this, after all the fuss that was made pre election. I’m disappointed…or maybe I shouldn’t be.
Guilty of being anonymous.
“Listen to Obama, even George Bush, and all effective speakers, and you notice they speak in short sentences, maybe 20 words maximum and you do not hear cliche phrases. You NEVER hear them rambling on and on in an expressionless montone, – like a path in the woods that leads to nowhere.”
Centipede,
How can you say on this blog that George Bush is an effective speaker? Are you drunk or something?
“If this is all the complaints, then he did a good job. For me it was the substance that mattered. We try to equate ourselves to the USA to much.”
Scout,
I agree with the above statement wholeheartedly. Some of us suffer from an inferiority complex and we so often copy what the USA does believing it is right. I watched the PM’s press conference and he conducted himself well. David Ellis might come over as aggressive but that’s part of his job. One might argue that he was unable to do it with Owen Arthur but there is a difference between Thompson and Arthur- Thompson is a cultured individual who can handle himself well when the tough questions come. Owen Atrhur is an uncultured THUG.
It seems that Thompson the politician who wanted to prosecute the BLP thugs has morphed into Thompson the statesman who only wants the corruption to stop. This is what Ellis was getting at.
As for the cliches, that is the way most of our politicians speak. Mottley’s “at the end of the day”…is another example. But Obama says “um” far too often and the less said about George Bush the better. Incidentally, using a long sentence in speaking is the sign of an organised mind.

@Equity: “Incidentally, using a long sentence in speaking is the sign of an organised mind.
I’m not convinced this statement is a truism.
@Inkwell
We welcome your comment. While some people insist on holding the PM’s feet to the fire regarding election promises, and rightly so to some extent BU has tempered its position. Brand us DLP friendly so be it
.
We feel given the global economic turbulence a common sense position requires an adjustment in positions. Economies all over the world are struggling. Obviously resources now have to be diverted in light of economic situation.
Obama and USA is a good example. He has had to adjust election promises because he has to focus on a large stimulus financial package which subtracts from his original plans.
@ Centipede January 15, 2009 at 8:44am
Centipede you mentioned overuse of cliches by the PM and other Government ministers. However your “short” post contained:
” I will say is”
“After all this time”
“Rambling on and on”
“Leads to nowhere”
Perhaps “we” should be more generous in our assessment of others, this bloger included.
i listened but up to know I aint here he say nutten new nor different nor worthwhile
Am I surprised?
So glad I didnt hear his bull shit talk.
I’ve always found Arthur to be an absorbing speaker! However, there’s a good deal more to good governance than being an able, public speaker, as Arthur may have taught you!
The Press Conference was a rehash of the previous Press Conference.Different journalists and basically the same line of questioning.
I am not impress with the performance of the government within this first year in office.Prime Minister David Thompson is bluffing his way. After 1 year in office no new immigration policy. No new land use policy.no new labour laws to protect the workers of Barbados. No new social programmes to uplift the conditions that the poor & most vulnerable in the society endure on a daily basis. No economic policy that could give the us Black Barbadians the oppurtunity to create big powerful business conglomerates to rival the big businesses owned by the Whites,The Indians & even the Chinese. No incentives to make Black people in Barbados master of our destiny. We Blacks are stil at the whim & fancy of the other ethnic groups. Those groups could starve us tommorow.
The Prime Minister has back peddled on Hardwood Housing Issue. No talk about putting people before the law courts for dishonest acts with tax payers money.I am not surprise because the old Combermere School tie says alot and a former politician said them are a special group of Barbadians. That is they belong to the political class. No politician in Barbados will ever allow another politician to face the law court. This is Barbados and Barbadians are stupid & very gullible and we love our politicians.
David Thompson is the Prime Minister of Double Talk.He has flip flop on many issues especially the immigration issue. No major changes will never come to immigration department. That is bull shit talk from the masquerader David Thompson. His most productive Minister Maxine McClean was forcibly remove from the ministry of immigration and replaced with the weakest minister in David Thompson’s cabinet Arni Walters.A strong lady who was performing creditably as Permanent Secretary in the ministry of Defence & Security which has responsibility for immigration Antoinette Thompson was removed and replaced by Gilbert Greaves the Gilbert Greaves former chief immigration officer. He is the administrative boss in the ministry of immigration. He can override any decision the curent Chief Immigration Officer Shirley Farnum makes. He has real power in the immigration ministry. That fool David Thompson wants to come and fool Black Barbadians that a shake up is coming in the immigration department. That is foolish talk.
Amnesty is on the cards for many illegal immigrants and illegal immigration problem will never be dealt with in an effective manner by this clown government.
The Press Conference did not give me any hope that we will see a better and effective management of our country.
Negroman, do I need to tell you TOO, about the necessity for paragraphs!! I assume you want people to read your post!!
On the matter of Thompson: IS THE INTERVIEW (video clip) ON THE BLP SITE SOMEWHERE, OR THE NATION SITE AND, IF NOT, WHY ON EARTH NOT!! THOMPY, AND BARBADIANS, WAKE UP, BROS!!
Equity wrote “Incidentally, using a long sentence in speaking is the sign of an organised mind.”
J responds “No it isn’t”
@199… I’m not sure why you would expect the BB.PM’s interview to be on the BLP site.
I would have expected it more likely to be on the CBC site, and possibly BGIS’. Perhaps also on UTube, bittorrent, et al.
Personally, not having been able to observe the broadcast in real-time, I’d be interested in a transcript of the interview, rather than relying on interpretations of same by others.
Word for word. Speaker by speaker.
Can anyone provide any URLs?
J, it could also be evidence of a tangled, mangled and duplicitous mind, but not necessarily, so! He could simply, not be skilled in the art of public speaking! I believe the gentleman is also, a lawyer! Fancy HIM, representing you in court??
Chris/199
Check http://www.vob929.com
Chris, please doan raise my pressure!! ‘Cause before I even read the res of what u said! It’s OBVIOUS, why bro!! Not everybody will have seen the interview las night!! I did n’t c it but I should like to!! Chris, I know that you’re Barbadian but have some mercy on my pressure, please!! It high enough aready!!
Laad!!
Chris, please, doan make me cry, bro!! If I wus d PM I should hopefully, be so proud of my interview to desire anybody and everybody to see it whether live as it was happening or afterwards on ESPECIALLY, my Party’s website!!
Look, I gun got to sign off dis ting before people like he make me cry, boa!!
Where e sense!!
Negroman, Gilbert Greaves is not PS, National Defence and Security, he is PS, Office of the Attorney-General. I think Equity is trying to say that to construct a long grammatical sentence while speaking requires a fair degree of skill.
@199: “Chris, please doan raise my pressure!!
LOL! But, my friend, that’s what I do best!
Now, the trick is to find yourself where I *can’t* raise your pressure…
Negroman, Gilbert Greaves is not PS, National Defence and Security, he is PS, Office of the Attorney-General. I think Equity is trying to say that to construct a long grammatical sentence while speaking requires a fair degree of skill.
————————————————
Juris you aint know wha gine on PS Greaves IS PERMANENT SECRETARY OF DEFENCE AND SECURITY
Sorry, Anonymous, my bad!
Ms. Williams was MOVED! Negroman boy you right on the money! Bajans starting to grumble but nobody aint being bold enough to say a thing ha ha ha STUPID LOT!
Watch and see the last resort will be a riot!
@Juris: “I think Equity is trying to say that to construct a long grammatical sentence while speaking requires a fair degree of skill.
So we’re complementing our elected based on the fact they appear to be able to speak in whole sentences?
Can’t most humans do this by the time they’re four years old or so?
A 4 year old who speaks in LONG GRAMMATICAL sentences? Why, not even you, CH….
@Juris… I didn’t say “long grammatical” sentences.
I said “whole sentences”. There is a difference.
For the record, it is my family’s lore that the first whole sentence I ever said (at the age of three) was “Please, Mommy, don’t sing.”
Even then I hated bad audio streams…
But to drill down a bit further on your immediate comments Juris, I personally have observed that a message with more words does not always mean more data. More content.
Often exactly the opposite, in fact.
For example, the “childish” word (and question) “Why” can never truly be properly answered….
I will add my comment as an Englishman. In the UK, we used to call it verbal diarrhoea. With every respect, I think Barbadians are very apt at using it, especially when in a public forum.
I really have lost interest in listening to commentators over the media. My father used to say to me, “Come on lad! Spit it out! What are you trying to say?”
One of the very bright sparks in this government is the work done by the Min of Housing. Min Suckoo and Min Lowe are just a lotta long talk. Min Sincklar seems to be getting his act together. By the way, one of the UDC missing houses is being rented to some guyanese.I’m patiently sitting back and see how the next six months will give
POOR-RAKEY. I believe that best sums up the interview with Mr. Thompson last night. The wicket was not taking any turn as the mutterings of Thompson clearly showed.
In one year, Thompson has now publicly washed his hands of Hardwood, corruption etc. The issues of good governance, transparency, accountability et al which he and his ilk vehemently spouted in the election campaign is now long forgotten.
What has become of the National Advisory Commission on Education (NACE)? What are the findings with respect to the town hall meetings on constituencycouncils? Is it reasonable to assume that the global economic crisis has stopped Members of Parliament from declaring assets?
It was/is painstakingly clear that this is a government without any real substance. And while some members of the “family” are willing to acquiesce to this bankrupt government, and others are “tempering” positions, the DLP Government will find no quarter here.

no need to correct any such thing . this is not an exam we understand and that is one of the fundamentals of communication
Mr. Scout – did you hear me say that ‘americans’ were the only effective communicators and we must copy them? THERE IS A STRATEGY in good communicating and it’s taught by all effective speaking schools wherever they are located – and you haven’t got to take it from me…. if YOU were interested in improving your own communicating skills – - you would ‘go to school’ where you’ll find out.
And YES David // January 15, 2009 at 9:13 am @CENTIPEDE you got it right.
Short sentences like “Read my lips!”
“I did not have sex with that woman.”
“The economy is not in recession” etc. is exactly right. WHY DO YOU THINK YOU REMEMBER THOSE? Because they are not mile long sentences and you didn’t go to sleep.
You cant talk to an audience about 6, 7 and 8 if they only know of 1, 2 and 3 … AND DON’T WANT TO GO ANY FURTHER.
It’s so childlike to put down ideas simply because they are something new to you. Well, if you want to live in the 20th century with backward ideas… it’s your call … carry on smartly.

Thank you for the above David. I’ve had a chance to rest my head now and my pressure’s gone down but, I hope they won’t forget to put it on the two aforementioned, sites!! It is absolutely, logical and makes eminent, sense!!
In the meantime, I gun try an keep away from Negroman, Chris ‘et al’, before dem give me a headache again, bo!!
Will view the clip, anon!!

Not all questions can be answered in short sentences, plus if you are asked to explain a particular subject , it is impossible to answer in short sentences. If the P.M had answered in short sentences, you and others would say that he is avoiding the question.
I still contend, that people like you look up too much to America for you guidance. We have our own culture and it works so who the hell is you? Mr Correct?
Please, please, Mr Scout and again, pleassssssssssseeeeeeeeeeeee, Mr Scout!! Please doan give me a headache again, today, pleassssssseee, Mr Scout!!
Since when has, “we have our own culture”, been a positive, answer to anything!! We are NOT incapable of learning MANY WORTHWHILE THINGS, FROM OTHER CULTURES!! PLEASE, Mr Scout, my pressure!! Please!!
Dear David, as this one’s coming to an end, please excuse this slight, diversion!!
Some months ago, I posted a subject for discussion on a Bim website, titled ‘Barbados must look after its children’, or words to that effect, the response to which was if I was speaking hindustanti!! I.e. not a single, reply!!
Anyhow, I’ve this morning, read in my valued British version of this week’s Nation of a case of child, sexual abuse involving two different, stepdads and below about another abusive situation involving a child!
I await the reaction, this time, to see if ‘the penny has dropped’, yet with Barbadians!!

Canada is deporting 800 hundred Guyaenese back to Guyana.Read today’s edition of Kaieteur News.
In Barbados our clown Prime Minister is offering them amnesty and giving them Barbadian citizenship
I wonder what Ricky Singh,Norma Faria,Peter Wickham,Frank Dasilva & all the other pro immigrant supporters & symphatisers have to say about that deportation of so many Guyanese from Canada
199 / Mr British Correct
Next thing you are going to say is that we should speak the Queen’s english. Well I got news for you, you British don’t speak it either. Maybew you’re one of those Bajans who have gone to British and has become more British than the British. To you God save the Queen for your sake and while he’s at it save the adulterous next King Charles too and his racist sons. All of those are the ones you worship, that is your adopted culture, poor fella. Mr British Correct. Tell the Queen hello for me when you go to Buckingham Palace tomorrow in the freezing cold to watch the changing of the guards. Maybe you would see when she peep through a window, so carry a placard.
Negro Man
Long time since I hear you. Your news is interesting, I doubted you when you told me about the amnesty but it now came from the “horse’s mouth.” I am Soooooooo sick about the whole thing that I’ve given up. This is Barbados and I will live here as long as I like and NO-ONE and I mean NO-ONE will take away what is mine. As I have said over and over again, these infidels can’t stop me enjoying my country. One day bajans will regret their mistake, I hope it will happen before it is too late.
The Scout
My brother my information is always creditable and on the spot on.David Thompson proposed & agreed with an amnesty for Caribbean non-nationals
There will be no shake up at the immigration department. That idiot Thompson is incapable of cleaning up the immigration department. His hand are tied by the rich Indian financiers of his party.
Prime Minister David Thompson is a traitor.I will repeat he has sold out Black Barbadians to rat catcher, mango seller Indians & Pakistani for meat & other food stuff he receives on Saturdays..
Negroman,
Shut up with your ignorance!!!!!
Negroman,
Are you Mac Fingall?. I read some garbage from Fingall in Nation where he claims ownership for predicting Indians would take over Barbados. Fingall ought to claim ownership for being a jackass.
Scout, I doan k wha english you speak cause I does speak Bajan all d time!!
Laadddddddddddddddd!!!!
Scout, ME?!! Guh tuh Buckingham Palace to watch pretty, soldiers marching roun!! Lor!! Scout, perhaps, years ago when I din have nuthing betta to do but, dat was a long time ago!!
Laaaaaaaaaaddddddddddddddddd!!!!
Negroman, that was a very interesting latest, post above which I actually, bothered to read. You might be more generous and thank me for the helpful, advice which I gave to you about paragraphs. It does n’t take much to say, “thank you, very much ’199′”!!
I ,too, am concerned about what’s happening in Bim vis. the Guyanese! Bajans must find a way of making their representatives more immediately, accountable to them than every five years!! A protest-march might not be a bad, idea!!
Long live David Thompson, us non -bajans enjoying your hospitality thought we had it good under Owen Arthur, but my oh my this chappie Thompie is something else. He is even better than Owen the way he looks after our interests. Long live this boy Thompie, Keep up the good work boy.

I am a man enough to say thanks for reminding me about the importance of paragraphs. However, remember this is the blogs and not an English examination where we express our opinions.
Prime Minister David Thompson has not lived up to our expectations and he will be a 1 term Prime Minister. We will get rid of the bribe taker & traitor
The Prime minister came over as not having a grasp on the situation, of not fully able to articulate on the political and economic matters confronting us.
He was not convincing to me and a bit of a bore too,
The episode was not attention grabbing , it was not asthetically pleasing and it was enough to make one steupse.
The way he responded to David Ellis was at best childish and he reminded me of his days as a schoolboy. He came across more as a bluffer than anything else. David Thompson is Prime because people feel that he looks like a Prime Minister———thats all
Negroman, don’t be ungrateful. Blog or not, your post still has to be presented in a way for people to be interested in reading it!
Johnnie Too Bad,
Just omit ‘Too Bad’ from your name. Johnnie is good enough. Fit ya to a T.
Ga long home, ya mudda want to pee.
I believe Thompson means well. But he cannot do everything we would like him to do. He is serving the country as a whole.
Wait and see..people who are now singing Obama’s praises will soon be crying “cucify him..crucify him.
Negroman, I don’t think you ever did answer my question of why you choose to be known by a name which black people, these days, regard as an insult!! If the question’s too, difficult for you to answer then please say so!!
Do you also, go by the name of *igger?!! You don’t seem to mind what you’re called and do you recommend this for the rest of us??
Government must not bow to pressure from commentators like David Ellis concerning immigration.
The reality is that from casual observations too many Indian babies from illegal immigrants are been born in Barbados.
I am not a racist but most of the Caribbean Indians display racist attitudes. I have studied with them and work with them in a Caribbean island and have experience this racism.
Mac Fingall was right in his predictions even though presented in a comical calypso. If the BLP supporters want Barbados economy to fail so that they can return to power to continue this open door policy they are in for big surprise.

This is my final reply to you.You are on permanent ignore from me.I think you are an ass.

What is wrong being refer to as a negro?

Negroman, if you can’t think of the answer then ask the remaining 99.99% of black people, why they object to it’s use!! What’s different about you!!
I dont have a problem being referred to as a negro! I black is ass and love it!
JC, I black as ass and love it too, I simply don’t like being described as a negro, as do most black people, these days!
Negro Man
Welcome to your entry into the “BAN 199 CLUB.” There are too many serious issues to discuss to waste time with an uninformed, ignorant person.
Scout, I’m happy for you to join the club, in company with 99% of the black population who, also, these days, find the term objectionable, who, no doubt, would ALSO see you as stupid – and you think that, I’m, ignorant!!

TOP TEN FAILURES OF THE DLP GOV’T. IN IT’S FIRST YEAR.
(1) Failure to have DLP parliamentarians declare personal assets. This is going to come back to bite them in the fanny.
(2) Failure to implement Integretigy legislation.
(3) Failure to reduce the sky high cost of living in Barbados by any means necessary. All we got were excuses. This is a huge failing of the DLP Gov’t. If anything the cost of living has increased under their watch. This can not be good for them and they will find this out at the next general election.
(4) Failure to arrest and charge ANYONE with corruption of any type. They all know about the massive BLP corruption as we all do but they have choosen to do ABOSOLUTELY NOTHING about it. Everyone is deeply disappointed about this. This will have general election implications for the DLP.
(5) Failure to foresee the devastating effects incresing taxation on alchol would have on the hospitality industry our main foregn exchange earner. The guests are fuming at the high cost of alcohol in Barbados. Trust me they will take their business elsewhere.
(6) Failure to appoint a new Govennor General and Chief Justice.
(7) Writing off $19m. in taxes for the rich horse racing fraternity. This is encourging people to break the law. I certainly hope that if “forget” to pay my taxes that I will get a break from the DLP Gov’t.
(8) Failure to repair the roads in Water Hall Land, Eagle Hall. Money was there to repair the roads but the DLP has refused to repair them, they are in a disgraceful state right now
(9) Failure to start up the Police Complaints Authority in spite of a lot of talk.
(10) Allowing a disconnect to develop between DLP parlimentarians and their supporters. For example, there is a gentleman that I know who worked tirelessly on the behalf of Donville Innis in the runup to the last election, before the election he could get Donville Innis anytime, morning, noon, or night, but now that he is a Minister the only time that he sees him or hears him is when Donville appears on the CBC Tv. These DlP politicians now that they are moving with the rich and famous they have forgoten all about their supporters. It is personnaly embarassing to me the large number of DLP supporters who are telling me, ” these people are something else, you can’t see them or hear them except on tv”.
Suckoo gon have some stress too; all the faithfuls that supported her like lil ric

Dear Carson, not only waterhall land, but the bus stand for small buses is a mess, in cheap side ,some time ago I ask someone why the stand by the river was so unkept ,why It was so miserable? I was told , because the people are miserable.
