It Is The Government’s Fault

Submitted by Inkwell

The Government of Barbados is the cause of, is responsible for and should be accountable to the people for the runaway indiscipline being exhibited by operators in the Public Service Vehicle Sector. It has caused and is responsible for the escalation of that indiscipline over a period of more than twenty years.

Every time a PSV stops at a place other than a bus stop to pick up or put off a passenger, the Government is to blame.

Every time an operator overloads his PSV, the Government is responsible.

Every time a PSV goes off route, the Government is to blame.

Every time a PSV overtakes other vehicles dangerously, it is the Government’s fault.

Every time a PSV driver curses you for objecting to his “bad” driving, the Government is to blame.

Every time a PSV driver drives like a madman to get where he is going as quickly as possible, the Government is responsible.

Every time a PSV conductor illegally stops traffic on a main road to let out his driver from a side street, it is the Government’s fault.

Every time a PSV driver or conductor appears in court for the umpteenth time on a traffic violation charge, the Government is to blame.

Every time a PSV driver stops suddenly in front of you, without indicating, to pick up a passenger, it is the Government’s fault.

And the Government chooses to do nothing about it!!

Don’t Blame Life, Blame The Way How You Live It

Submitted by Bad Man Saying Nuttin (as a comment)

I will point out the elephant in the room. If you are poor for more than one generation it is because you want to be. Education has been free and available for many years. Information is available now more than ever. life is what you make it; “Don’t blame life , blame the way how you live it.”

People have to stop breeding without knowing how they are going to support children. Condoms are cheap. nothing is wrong with attempting to plan a life.

We have people who indiscriminately get pregnant 3 times before reaching 25 and then say life hard. We have men who even though gifted academically rebel against the “system” instead of using it (the education system) to their benefit and then blame government for their “poor situation.

How About Dame Billie Returning?

Hartley Henry - DLP Political Strategist

Were this duel between Owen Arthur and Mia Mottley not so dangerous and embarrassing for Barbados, it would be entertaining and even hilarious for those of us who enjoy good political drama. The staged photo last weekend featured the two contenders for Barbados Labour Party leadership in the foreground and Dame Billie Miller in the shadows. Even when they attempted to do the right thing, they messed up!

From the Barbados Labour Party’s perspective at this point, Dame Billie Miller sandwiched between Arthur and Mottley, is akin to a rose among two thorns. Their behavior of late is so deplorable that it would make the average Labour Party supporter wonder whether it would not be better to dump them both, as leadership contenders, and go back for the much more credible and polished, Dame Billie. Surely, she would refocus and re-energize the languishing party.

No cooked-up photograph is going to convince Barbadians that the battle lines are no longer in existence. They are clearly drawn!

How do you explain less than 60 hours following publication of that photo, the two heavyweight contenders mustering their troops and heading to separate corners of the island for warm up sparring matches? The other seven BLP Parliamentarians were clearly confused by this spectacle, as while three went to the Pine with Arthur, two journeyed to St. James with Mottley and two stood out of sight completely.

Excitement Comes back To The Sandy Lane Gold Cup

Grade I winner Bribon is one of the leading contenders for the Barbados Gold Cup. Order This Photo Photo: Coglianese Photos

This coming Saturday is Gold Cup day in Barbados. The BU household remember the excitement which use to surround this race in the 80s. Do you remember Bold Lewis the horse to win the very first gold cup in 1982? What about Iron Lover from Martinique and Tinker’s Image who gave Barbados its first win in 1984. The days leading up to the race created much excitement as gold cup fever would grip the island back then. The interesting thing was it did not matter whether you were a horse racing fan or not, you found yourself caught up in the excitement and on the Garrison Savannah come gold cup day.

In recent years the the race has slipped in appeal for one reason or the other. The Barbados Turf Club (BTC) has responsibility for horse racing in Barbados but has  had to navigate a rough financial patch in recent years. It is reported to be an industry which employs directly and indirectly 3000 people. It might explain why the David Thompson government forgave 19 million dollars in debt within the first year of assuming office. It is a decision which is still challenged by some because of the wealthy personages who are involved in the industry and manage the BTC. Why couldn’t they reach into their deep pockets to help the BTC at its time of greatest need?

A Mother’s Cry

BU received the  following letter about a week ago. After some verification we decided to share (unedited) with the BU family

I am asking for help from any one out there who can hear my cry a mother’s cry and pain and willing to help me and my kids. At the moment I am in the US however I am a Guyanese but I grew up in Barbados I have been a Barbadian citizen since 1988 my son and my daughter was born in Barbados. Like so many Barbadian I left Barbados six years ago and came to the US hoping for a better future for my kids as I was a single mother with three kids and no help from my family member. Five years ago I met someone and got married here in the us and have been lucky for a while I was able to travel back and forth to see my kids and have provide for them while I was away I called every day.

My husband had a car accident and needed to have back surgery in 2005 which left him permanently disable that was just the beginning of the bad news because of that it took us a long time to be able to file for the kids papers because of our financial situation however we have manage to do so a while back.

At the beginning when I left I had left my kids with my son grandparents I send money for them every month and barrels of food as well and anything else that they needed. Then I got a phone call from one of my sisters saying grandma and grand pa only wanted my money and the things I was sending and that she thought that grand pa was abusing my daughter, turns out that was a lie after she took my baby to the doctor and the doctor said the child had an infection which she could have picked up from the toilet at school.
