The following email was received from a customer who shared an interesting experience while shopping at the leading supermarket in Barbados.
Team investigation of pricing in the big stores, today I bought 4 items and 2 were wrong… or at least missleading!!
I visited your store this morning in Warrens for a few small groceries and on the receipt comments were requested from this experience.
Firstly I would like to congratulate you on your fruit and vegetable department, you have the freshest and most inviting selection on the island, today I was drawn to the Idaho potatoes $10.99 for 5 lb bag so I grabbed one…. Upon reaching the till I then noticed I had a 10 lb bag that looked identical to the 5 lb for $24.39!!! Very naughty trick!! Next I grab some coke $10.50 as advertised, then tonic $11.29 even though advertised as $10.50.
So in conclusion I’m a very angry customer are times not tough enough?
I await your reply.
Many Thanks

Attention Shoppers if you look in the Fruit Cake Aisle you would see BAF name attached . please read the ingredients before purchasing.
Now understand how Bynoe came up with this 10% idea to reduce all salaries in Barbados.
He has a Emerald Supermarket ad currently running where if you spend $100.00 it entitles the shopper to 10% off certain meats
Wait David;
Where you talkin’ ’bout …? You ever try pickin’ up a chick in SC?
ac
I am non-toxic … You call me a fruit cake ..? Listen … don’ let me have to …
Down by the beach i met a man who asked me for a $1.00, he said wanted to buy a sardine and I obliged by giving him a tin I had in the jeep(specially for this occasion) and a $5. He opened it forthwith and devoured it like an animal. Said that was all he had for the day..asked me if I had a coke to wash it down….Boy! I felt thankful.
Old onion etc.
Let me guess during Election campaigns you also drive around with tins of corn beef and biscuits……
Sargeant
You are hopelessly out of date, no one goes around with corned beef and biscuits. Nowadays it is a brown paper bag full of hundred and fifty dollar bills. There are 1,500 fifty dollar bills in $75,000.
@ Sargeant
Haaaaaa ha. good one but NO.I fish on the beach for relaxation(food too) and sardine oil is good for scenting up D fish.
@Caswell
Looks like Sargeant want a tin to carry home man…ya can’t eat the money!!lol…tell he got bisuits
Anybody could tell me why a sardine is $2.15 and a biscuit is $1.70 and a Middle Cut or Mackerel is $4.85 Corn beef $4.15…..how D raaaa they expect the poor man to eat? …Basket of Goods what….these still too high man.Ainsley Benn you listening
@Caswell
I was following up on Old Onion’s story and perhaps he is from the old school but yuh gotta admit it was funny.
@old onion
If you meet the same man tomorrow and he asks you for something to eat what will you give/tell him?
At Carlton you could buy half a pig head for under ten dollars … now that is real cheap protein …!
You see me, i raising my own African snails. Right now they are just over six inches long but when they reach 14 it would be time for the pot …!
Sarge
Unlike you..I don’t really find it so funny ya know.
Do you really believe that they got plenty hungry people out there ?
Well let me send you…to Black Rock main Rd…bout 10 pm and you will see young girls 14 and 15 prostituting to get a meal for tomorrow…or head down Deacons..boss its for real….
@old onion
That wasn’t even a good attempt at trying to imply that I was making fun of hungry people, my comment was all about you driving around with a tin of sardines in an SUV.
How about an answer to the question what will you do next time?
@old onion bags,
Why don’t you put some fishing line,lead and hooks in your jeep and teach the fella to fish.
Old saying.
“Give a man a fish he has food for one day.
Teach him to fish and he can eat almost every day.”
Sardines good.
Corned beef bad but it real sweet wid some onions an ketchup.
I can save some of you lots of money on your food supplement bill. Follow the link below:

Quotng Old onion “Black Rock main Rd…bout 10 pm and you will see young girls 14 and 15 prostituting to get a meal for tomorrow”
Call the police for the John’s and the Child Care Board for the girls.
And yes the CCB will respond. Once I saw a boy of 8 or 9 begging outside of Carlton, and I was very afraid that some pervert might harm him. I called CCB and they dealt with it in less than 24 hours.
And onions instead of buying sardine is $2.15 and Middle Cut or Mackerel for $4.85 and Corn beef $4.15….” use the $11.45 go to the fish market and buy $11.45 worth of flying fish fish from a local fish vendor, you should get about 30 fish for that money and you and Mrs. Onions can have 2 flying fish each with your dinner for the rest of the week, or buy 2 pounds of dolphin and cut it up, good eating for days, and staying away from the salty corned beef and mackeral will keep your blood pressure down, and juck the merchants of poor quality imported goods canned goods just where it hurts them most. And give the local fishing industry a boost. It is time for poor people to stop eating canned corned beef.
Getting back to the original premise of the post about the disparity in price- shelf vs scanned – perhaps the retailers could adopt a code similar to the one listed below:
On a claim being presented by the customer, where the scanned price of a product at checkout is higher than the price displayed in the store or than advertised by the store, the lower price will be honoured; and
(a) if the correct price of the product is $10 or less, the retailer will give the product to the customer free of charge; or
(b) if the correct price of the product is higher than $10, the retailer will give the customer a discount of $10 off the corrected price.
Source Retail Council of Canada ( Scanner Price Accuracy Voluntary Code)
****
Recently I received my $10.00 back plus the item scanned @$9.99 but listed on the shelf @ $7.99 and it was not the first time. The retailer is not necessarily out to get you, never discount the human element.
As to the above code it won’t happen, forget what I wrote above I was dreaming
Caswell
You telling me to pick cowitch? I din know that you hate me su much … my God man. You ever try eating this thing? This is a hoax.
@random

Lady we living in rough rough times…and if you want to live.
@Sarge
(a) if the correct price of the product is $10 or less, the retailer will give the product to the customer free of charge; or
Sarge you got onions laughing man…boy dis is Barbados..them things don’t happen bout hay man….somehow always the merchant does come out on top.
Just to show only recently a famous retailer of TV’s by St.Marys advertised a gift of a laptop if you buy a certain item via the newspaper.One fellow went to buy the item and was given a laptop table (tray) as the gift instead…the loyal sales attendant realizing something was wrong..informed management.. who were quick to call in on call in program informing of the mistake.As to the first buyer of the item looking for the advertised laptop…no way hosea… he had to settle for a laptop tray.
A lawyer called in and said according to our laws…C Bdos.Ltd was right.
Now tell me Sarge..don’t you think in good customer relations they should’nt have given the poor guy the laptop ? Just this one ?
Barbados and Canada miles apart when it comes to these tings boss.
@Hants
Why don’t you put some fishing line,lead and hooks in your jeep and teach the fella to fish.

“Some supermarkets/retailers do not allow the customer to see the monitor as they enter the prices. I always demand that I see the monitor or ask what was the price entered. ”
u cannot be speaking about any supermarket AT ALL. u could have from the beginning said DaCosta Mannings NOT “Some supermarkets/..” as i know that THE SuperCentres, Popular and Trimart have prices right up in ur face

There are a number of ways to stretch your money,……
Nescafe mid-size is $15 from SC, but buy two packets of “Clasico” at $11, when the jar is used up? Pour the 2 sachets in, the bottle is almost full! You pay 5 or 4 dollars for the container, Bajans, use the refill method ONLY! Same for Ketchup…
Dollarwise on Swan Street can get you Detergent Bars, Shaving Cream or Shampoo for 3$ each. They have Tang powdered juice in Grape, Orange and Raspberry – why waste on Coke or Sprite? The boxed noodles they have are very salty so add some milk or potatoes to them to draw off the salinity”
U have very UNHEALTHY HABITS plus i CANNOT put detergent bars in my washing machine. Popular sells Lily blue which works really or B-29 if ur washing by hand. i would never use potatoes (which u should avoid) to draw off salt it totally backward because u will in turn eat the very same potatoes. DO PUT USE SALT PERIOD
