REDjet Grounded!

The ‘sudden’ demise of REDjet has been a talking point in the Caribbean in the last few days. Each day that REDjet remains grounded secures another nail in its coffin. It would be a pity if this airline goes belly up the way of Carib Airlines and others before it.

It is perplexing how two local backers of REDjet, Messrs Kyffin Simpson and Bizzy Williams, would attempt to launch a low budget airline before securing all the regulatory approvals. The result of which compromised its finances or so it seems.

What went wrong?

It is hard to believe these two men who can boast of successful track records in business would commit what seem to be basic errors in judgement.

A scan of the Trinidad media space has revealed that Barbados is being short changed by how the REDjet issue is being communicated. Read the following article reproduced from the TT Guardian to see why.

  1. @ David…sorry..just one thing

Without prejudice to anything I just wrote, I think (thinking about it) that the reason for my discomfort in all this is the familiar nature of the KIND of points that are being made. It is a paradigm of the standard village gossip type of argumentation when D confronts B..in other words, it assumes that Caesar’s wife never was chaste and then draws conclusions from this hypothesis. Since I don’t frequent the village tap, it all means nothing to me…other than having a sense that conclusions are being treated as irrefutable though derived from conjecture (from gossip). I suppose that that means for present purposes I prefer to rely on rather simple statements like ‘competition is good’ which, as you say (in its ‘pure’ sense) is something we can all agree upon – and then work from there.

  2. @ David

Oh yes..I agree entirely about the strategy for dropping fares.

  3. @robert

You must be aware that we are in the Court of Public Opinion which is within its right to connect dots in the absence of FOI to draw conclusions.?

In contrast in a Court of Law circumstantial evidence maybe arrived at by using “an inference to connect it to a conclusion of fact”

How else can one explain REDjet’s business model and business strategy?

  4. Comment received via email on the subject matter:

Bloggers need to look at the real issue. Was the low fare model a reasonable one for an fledgling airline that seems to have been undercapitalized to begin with? Does Kyffin Simpson have an interest in SOL which supplies aviation fuel? Bloggers need to understand the real issues. Or did the company Airone Ventures start off with the hope of receiving governmental support at some point on the pretext of bringing in greater tourists from the Caribbean market. Werent we told by Mr Burns that the REDJet Guyana/Barbados route was profitable?

If Caribbean Airlines (CAL) is subsidized by the Trinidad Government..was REDjet the beneficiary of subsidized fuel by Kyffin Simpson’ SOL given that Simpson is a part of the majority shareholding in REDjet?

This also begs the question, if REDjet has ceased operations with debts owing to the Airports Authority of Trinidad and Tobago, do they also owe our Grantley Adams International Airport Inc. for parking fees, landing fees etc.? Recall that chains being placed on shops at the GAIA for unpaid rents and their stock was eventually sold off by public auction. Can we expect that REDjet’s aircraft will be levied on by GAIA for outstanding amounts too? All this while they are parked on the tarmac at GAIA which has a cost, while the planes are not earning any revenues by flying passengers. There is also a rental costs for the passenger check in counters that REDjet occupies. Have they passed on the taxes which they collect on behalf of the government on the tickets which they sell or are these still owing to the government tax man?

If REDjet is asking for regional support, lets see REDjet’s accounts – which routes are profitable? which routes are losses? Those profitable routes – no subsidy. Those routes which are loss routes, REDjet should relook their pricing and seek to charge an economic fare. Remember that LIAT does not get any subsidy but still is in the air everyday!!

  5. The constant bombardment by thise who think that the appeal of the word “CHEaP should be enough to BAIL out a company is shortsighted.. RED JET took a risk into a hostile and lucklustre tourism market knowing full well that demand was down and most major airlines were running into the “red “all the warning lights were on signaling Red Jet to “pullup” and Red jet refusal to take heed cause them to take a nose dive. Now pretending thatthis casualty is the government fault is ridiculous

  6. David wrote “How else can one explain REDjet’s business model and business strategy?”

The Owners of RedJet must have thought that governments in the Caribbean would support their requirements as needed when needed.

Why would you start an airline without having the approvals, routes, landing rights etc ?
The must have assumed that it would be “ask and it will be given”.

There is no question that airfares in the Caribbean are high but what is the solution that will provide lower fares while maintaining safety?

  7. @Hants

As usual your quest to find solutions remains a most admirable trait.

One blocker which needs to be remover is to create a common air space in the region.

Caricom has failed to deliver in this regard.

  8. @ David

Oh yes, you can have a painting by numbers model or a pointillist model or the sort of model you get when you download and then replay from youtube – where the image squirls, curls and twirls – like seeing a face in the moon. And I accept that the last is the equivalent of the ‘village gossip’ idea – or your court of public opinion. The problem is that it may all be rooted in ignorance and superstition. I’m speaking without reference to RedJ. The problem about ‘reading between the lines’ is that (a) it results in infinite regress and (b) that regress entails conjecture upon conjecture

Though like you my first thoughts on dear Miller’s response to Ph.D was of the almost satanic level of manipulation our man was capable of…I have now changed my mind. I think he was drawing attention, and most properly, to the apparent paradox in Ph.D. Mind, I say ‘apparent’; for the enthusiasm PhD demonstrated for things aviational was matched by his enthusiasm in earlier posts for things Biblical and, quite possibly, by his sense of chivalry – which combined gave him a sort of complexion at odds with the ‘science’ of the aviation piece. Science is not, however, inevitably at odds with religious belief and both, as PhD was trying to say, I think, may have a rational base albeit not a shared one. In short, we shouldn’t misjudge either Miller or PhD – and Miller’s probing sing-song, deadly of course, has, for me, demonstrated that….well, now anyway.

“Here we go again with the same poppycock about the government blamed for the failures of the rich’ when in fact the government always taking the poor peoples money and handing it to them like it is candy in return for the empty promises they make to government! so what if they fail! because of there inability to see the forest for the trees . How many times have we heard these god a..s sorry stories after government has put millions of dollars in hardworking taxpayers money in these never get off the ground projects enough is enough ! Down with the Blasted HAND OUTS NO! MORE!”

    Hi “ac”,
The Nation newspaper is not so bad after all!
They have taken your concerns about the many demands for government bail-outs onboard. Check the cartoon in Today’s edition by Mike Nurse. The jackass taxpayers are at the end of their tethers trying to carry the growing heavy burden of private sector mule cart failures. Mike has even loaded in the mule cart some of the deadweight thrash the miller has discarded (LIAT/Four Seasons & Almond). As you well know, ac, it is not easy for a DLP donkey to carry an overloaded mule cart up Coach Hill. You now see why politicians should never make impossible promises or commitments just for votes. They come back to break the backs of taxpayers and eventually sink your political boat. It seems that poor barrack the clown would have to sit at the back of the cart and sure to end up at the bottom of the heap when the cart topples over. The amount of financial burden and debt the government is faced with would make the twelve labours of Hercules look achievable in 100 minutes (not days as promised.). Even make sport of Sisyphus’s futile attempts to roll a boulder up Church Hill to be placed over the tomb of the dead king as a stark reminder of the hubris for lying to the gods: “I will not Lie, Cheat or Steal”! But we still have a jester in the Senate posing as Merlin the chief magician to the dead king still ruling from the tomb. And like Prospero he can concoct a menu of charms and spells to not only cause half of the taxpayers’ financial burdens to disappear but to bring the dead king back from the tomb through devilish prayer of ‘Davidian’ proportions.

So, ac, practise this soliloquy even in the presence of you boy friend ole onions with Ariel the “Observer” locked behind closed doors but still seeing all the hanky-panky:

“Now my charms are all o’erthrown,
And what strength I have’s mine own,
Which is most faint: now, ’tis true,
I must be here confined by you,
Or sent to Naples. Let me not,
Since I have my dukedom got
    And pardon’d the deceiver, dwell
    In this bare island by your spell;
But release me from my bands
With the help of your good hands:
Gentle breath of yours my sails
Must fill, or else my project fails,
Which was to please. Now I want
Spirits to enforce, art to enchant,
    And my ending is despair,
Unless I be relieved by prayer,
Which pierces so that it assaults
Mercy itself and frees all faults.
As you from crimes would pardon’d be,
Let your indulgence set me free.”

    Amen!

The problem about ‘reading between the lines’ is that (a) it results in infinite regress and (b) that regress entails conjecture upon conjecture

Perhaps true but in the Court of Public opinion when actions and decisions seem odd and coupled with a prevailing ethos of a lack of information sharing i.e. no FOI, a public which does not reside at Whitepark is left to legitimately wonder.

  11. “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge. But FOOLS* despise wisdom and instruction.” (Prov. 1:7)

” How long you SIMPLE ones (ROSS, Nnaki/Ralian et al) will you love simplicity? For SCORNERS delight in SCORNING, and FOOLS hate knowledge. For SCORNERS delight in their SCORNING. And FOOLS (Like you ROSS) hate knowledge.” (v.22)

    The Wicked Man.

“A worthless person, a wicked man. Walkes with a PERVERSE ( Corrupt, miscreant, rotton, putrid) MOUTH…Perversity IS* in his heart…therefore HIS calamity shall come SUDDENLY, SUDDENLY he shall be broken without remedy.” (Prov. 6: 12, 14, 15)

“He who walks with integrity walks securely. But HE who PERVERTS (ANIMALIZES, BASTARDIZES, BESTIALIZES) his ways will become KNOWN)” Prov. 10: 9)

“In the multitude of words, SIN is not lacking. But he who restrains his lips is WISE..the heart of the wicked is worth little…BUT FOOLS die for a lack of wisdom…To do evil is like SPORT to a FOOL. But a man of understanding has wisdom.” (vv. 19,20, 21b)

Re “Comment received via email on the subject matter:”

Every point raised therein is very pertinent.

What is the GAIA going to do? Seize the aircraft or sue the shareholders for any statutory amounts due to the Crown?
What is the Trinidad government going to do? Write of the debt or withhold the next shipment of fuel to Bim until payment is made? The “S” in SOL stands for “Simpson”.

And to think these same private sector money moguls refuse to invest in the Four Seasons Restart Project. What you sow you shall surely reap! Every summer must have its Winter Spring or “fall”!

    Abstract
Here are fourteen natural phenomena which conflict with the evolutionary idea that the universe is billions of years old. The numbers listed below in bold print (usually in the millions of years) are often maximum possible ages set by each process, not the actual ages.

    ——————————————————————————–

Spiral galaxy NGC 1232 in constellation Eridanus (photo courtesy of European Southern Observatory). Here are fourteen natural phenomena which conflict with the evolutionary idea that the universe is billions of years old. The numbers listed below in bold print (usually in the millions of years) are often maximum possible ages set by each process, not the actual ages. The numbers in italics are the ages required by evolutionary theory for each item. The point is that the maximum possible ages are always much less than the required evolutionary ages, while the Biblical age (6,000 years) always fits comfortably within the maximum possible ages. Thus, the following items are evidence against the evolutionary time scale and for the Biblical time scale. Much more young-world evidence exists, but I have chosen these items for brevity and simplicity. Some of the items on this list can be reconciled with the old-age view only by making a series of improbable and unproven assumptions; others can fit in only with a recent creation.

    1. Galaxies wind themselves up too fast.
The stars of our own galaxy, the Milky Way, rotate about the galactic center with different speeds, the inner ones rotating faster than the outer ones. The observed rotation speeds are so fast that if our galaxy were more than a few hundred million years old, it would be a featureless disc of stars instead of its present spiral shape.1 Yet our galaxy is supposed to be at least 10 billion years old. Evolutionists call this “the winding-up dilemma,” which they have known about for fifty years. They have devised many theories to try to explain it, each one failing after a brief period of popularity. The same “winding-up” dilemma also applies to other galaxies. For the last few decades the favored attempt to resolve the puzzle has been a complex theory called “density waves.”1 The theory has conceptual problems, has to be arbitrarily and very finely tuned, and has been called into serious question by the Hubble Space Telescope’s discovery of very detailed spiral structure in the central hub of the “Whirlpool” galaxy, M51.2

    2. Too few supernova remnants.

Crab Nebula (photo courtesy of NASA)According to astronomical observations, galaxies like our own experience about one supernova (a violently-exploding star) every 25 years. The gas and dust remnants from such explosions (like the Crab Nebula) expand outward rapidly and should remain visible for over a million years. Yet the nearby parts of our galaxy in which we could observe such gas and dust shells contain only about 200 supernova remnants. That number is consistent with only about 7,000 years worth of supernovas.3

    3. Comets disintegrate too quickly.
According to evolutionary theory, comets are supposed to be the same age as the solar system, about five billion years. Yet each time a comet orbits close to the sun, it loses so much of its material that it could not survive much longer than about 100,000 years. Many comets have typical ages of less than 10,000 years.4 Evolutionists explain this discrepancy by assuming that (a) comets come from an unobserved spherical “Oort cloud” well beyond the orbit of Pluto, (b) improbable gravitational interactions with infrequently passing stars often knock comets into the solar system, and (c) other improbable interactions with planets slow down the incoming comets often enough to account for the hundreds of comets observed.5 So far, none of these assumptions has been substantiated either by observations or realistic calculations. Lately, there has been much talk of the “Kuiper Belt,” a disc of supposed comet sources lying in the plane of the solar system just outside the orbit of Pluto. Some asteroid-sized bodies of ice exist in that location, but they do not solve the evolutionists’ problem, since according to evolutionary theory, the Kuiper Belt would quickly become exhausted if there were no Oort cloud to supply it.

    4. Not enough mud on the sea floor.

Rivers and dust storms dump mud into the sea much faster than plate tectonic subduction can remove it.Each year, water and winds erode about 20 billion tons of dirt and rock from the continents and deposit it in the ocean.6 This material accumulates as loose sediment on the hard basaltic (lava-formed) rock of the ocean floor. The average depth of all the sediment in the whole ocean is less than 400 meters.7 The main way known to remove the sediment from the ocean floor is by plate tectonic subduction. That is, sea floor slides slowly (a few cm/year) beneath the continents, taking some sediment with it. According to secular scientific literature, that process presently removes only 1 billion tons per year.7 As far as anyone knows, the other 19 billion tons per year simply accumulate. At that rate, erosion would deposit the present mass of sediment in less than 12 million years. Yet according to evolutionary theory, erosion and plate subduction have been going on as long as the oceans have existed, an alleged three billion years. If that were so, the rates above imply that the oceans would be massively choked with sediment dozens of kilometers deep. An alternative (creationist) explanation is that erosion from the waters of the Genesis flood running off the continents deposited the present amount of sediment within a short time about 5,000 years ago.

    5. Not enough sodium in the sea.
Every year, rivers8 and other sources9 dump over 450 million tons of sodium into the ocean. Only 27% of this sodium manages to get back out of the sea each year.9,10 As far as anyone knows, the remainder simply accumulates in the ocean. If the sea had no sodium to start with, it would have accumulated its present amount in less than 42 million years at today’s input and output rates.10 This is much less than the evolutionary age of the ocean, three billion years. The usual reply to this discrepancy is that past sodium inputs must have been less and outputs greater. However, calculations that are as generous as possible to evolutionary scenarios still give a maximum age of only 62 million years.10 Calculations11 for many other seawater elements give much younger ages for the ocean.

    6. The earth’s magnetic field is decaying too fast.

Electrical resistance in the earth’s core wears down the electrical current which produces the earth’s magnetic field. That causes the field to lose energy rapidly. The total energy stored in the earth’s magnetic field (“dipole” and “non-dipole”) is decreasing with a half-life of 1,465 (± 165) years.12 Evolutionary theories explaining this rapid decrease, as well as how the earth could have maintained its magnetic field for billions of years are very complex and inadequate. A much better creationist theory exists. It is straightforward, based on sound physics, and explains many features of the field: its creation, rapid reversals during the Genesis flood, surface intensity decreases and increases until the time of Christ, and a steady decay since then.13 This theory matches paleomagnetic, historic, and present data, most startlingly with evidence for rapid changes.14 The main result is that the field’s total energy (not surface intensity) has always decayed at least as fast as now. At that rate the field could not be more than 20,000 years old.15

    7. Many strata are too tightly bent.
In many mountainous areas, strata thousands of feet thick are bent and folded into hairpin shapes. The conventional geologic time scale says these formations were deeply buried and solidified for hundreds of millions of years before they were bent. Yet the folding occurred without cracking, with radii so small that the entire formation had to be still wet and unsolidified when the bending occurred. This implies that the folding occurred less than thousands of years after deposition.16

    8. Biological material decays too fast.

Natural radioactivity, mutations, and decay degrade DNA and other biological material rapidly. Measurements of the mutation rate of mitochondrial DNA recently forced researchers to revise the age of “mitochondrial Eve” from a theorized 200,000 years down to possibly as low as 6,000 years.17 DNA experts insist that DNA cannot exist in natural environments longer than 10,000 years, yet intact strands of DNA appear to have been recovered from fossils allegedly much older: Neandertal bones, insects in amber, and even from dinosaur fossils.18 Bacteria allegedly 250 million years old apparently have been revived with no DNA damage.19 Soft tissue and blood cells from a dinosaur have astonished experts.20

    9. Fossil radioactivity shortens geologic “ages” to a few years.

Radio Halo (photo courtesy of Mark Armitage)Radiohalos are rings of color formed around microscopic bits of radioactive minerals in rock crystals. They are fossil evidence of radioactive decay.21 “Squashed” Polonium-210 radiohalos indicate that Jurassic, Triassic, and Eocene formations in the Colorado plateau were deposited within months of one another, not hundreds of millions of years apart as required by the conventional time scale.22 “Orphan” Polonium-218 radiohalos, having no evidence of their mother elements, imply accelerated nuclear decay and very rapid formation of associated minerals.23,24

    10. Too much helium in minerals.
Uranium and thorium generate helium atoms as they decay to lead. A study published in the Journal of Geophysical Research showed that such helium produced in zircon crystals in deep, hot Precambrian granitic rock has not had time to escape.25 Though the rocks contain 1.5 billion years worth of nuclear decay products, newly-measured rates of helium loss from zircon show that the helium has been leaking for only 6,000 (± 2000) years.26 This is not only evidence for the youth of the earth, but also for episodes of greatly accelerated decay rates of long half-life nuclei within thousands of years ago, compressing radioisotope timescales enormously.

    11. Too much carbon 14 in deep geologic strata.
With their short 5,700-year half-life, no carbon 14 atoms should exist in any carbon older than 250,000 years. Yet it has proven impossible to find any natural source of carbon below Pleistocene (Ice Age) strata that does not contain significant amounts of carbon 14, even though such strata are supposed to be millions or billions of years old. Conventional carbon 14 laboratories have been aware of this anomaly since the early 1980s, have striven to eliminate it, and are unable to account for it. Lately the world’s best such laboratory which has learned during two decades of low-C14 measurements how not to contaminate specimens externally, under contract to creationists, confirmed such observations for coal samples and even for a dozen diamonds, which cannot be contaminated in situ with recent carbon.27 These constitute very strong evidence that the earth is only thousands, not billions, of years old.

    12. Not enough Stone Age skeletons.
Evolutionary anthropologists now say that Homo sapiens existed for at least 185,000 years before agriculture began,28 during which time the world population of humans was roughly constant, between one and ten million. All that time they were burying their dead, often with artifacts. By that scenario, they would have buried at least eight billion bodies.29 If the evolutionary time scale is correct, buried bones should be able to last for much longer than 200,000 years, so many of the supposed eight billion stone age skeletons should still be around (and certainly the buried artifacts). Yet only a few thousand have been found. This implies that the Stone Age was much shorter than evolutionists think, perhaps only a few hundred years in many areas.

    13. Agriculture is too recent.
The usual evolutionary picture has men existing as hunters and gatherers for 185,000 years during the Stone Age before discovering agriculture less than 10,000 years ago.<Deevey, E. S., The human population, Scientific American 203:194–204 (September 1960). Yet the archaeological evidence shows that Stone Age men were as intelligent as we are. It is very improbable that none of the eight billion people mentioned in item 12 should discover that plants grow from seeds. It is more likely that men were without agriculture for a very short time after the Flood, if at all.30

    14. History is too short.
According to evolutionists, Stone Age Homo sapiens existed for 190,000 years before beginning to make written records about 4,000 to 5,000 years ago. Prehistoric man built megalithic monuments, made beautiful cave paintings, and kept records of lunar phases.31 Why would he wait two thousand centuries before using the same skills to record history? The Biblical time scale is much more likely.<Dritt, J. O., Man’s earliest beginnings: discrepancies in evolutionary timetables, Proceedings of the Second International Conference on Creationism, vol. II, Creation Science Fellowship (1991), Pittsburgh, PA, pp. 73–78, order from http://www.creationicc.org/.

  15. More Evidence for Supernatural Creation and Design of the Universe
January 5, 2009 By Dr. Hugh Ross

Important decisions in life, like whom to marry, are best made in the context of multiple independent confirmations along with efforts to improve their reliability.

When all possible confirming efforts say she or he is the right one, one can be confident that the right decision has been made.

The same principle applies in scientific research. Scientists strive to test their hypotheses by developing as many independent experiments and observations as possible of the phenomenon under investigation. Given an adequate number of independent tests, if every possible experimental and observational method produces results consistent with a particular hypothesis, then scientists can be reasonably assured that the hypothesis is correct.

For many years now the Supernova Cosmology Project (SCP)—a team comprised of seventy astronomers working in institutions in eleven different nations—has been striving to improve one of the observational linchpins of the big bang creation model. This linchpin is the observation of Type Ia supernova eruptions in galaxies across a wide range of distances as a tool to measure the cosmic expansion rate throughout cosmic history. The theological importance of such a measurement is that for thousands of years the Bible stood alone in predicting that the universe continuously expands under constant laws of physics from an actual beginning of all matter, energy, space, and time.1

Each Type Ia supernovae possesses the same mass at the time of its eruption, namely about 1.4 times the mass of the Sun. Possessing the identical mass means that, except for some minor adjustments for variations in their metal abundances, all Type Ia supernovae manifest the same luminosity or brightness. Consequently, they are standard candles. Thus, accurate distances to extremely faraway supernovae can be determined by comparing their measured brightnesses with those of nearby supernovae, which astronomers already have determined precise distances by independent means of measurement.

In order to determine the cosmic expansion rate throughout the universe’s history researchers need, besides accurate distances, precise measures of the rates at which the respective supernovae are moving away from Earth. Astronomers gain these data by assessing the redshifts in the spectra of the supernovae. According to Einstein’s theory of special relativity, the faster an object moves away from an observer the closer to the red end of the spectrum the spectral lines in the object’s spectrum shift.

The SCP has updated their cosmic expansion results by assembling measurements of 414 different Type Ia supernovae from several supernovae survey catalogs.2 This update includes nearly double the number of supernovae used in their previous work though 107 of these 414 had to be eliminated because of doubtful measurements.

With their analysis of the additional measurements, the SCP published improved constraints on a number of important cosmological parameters. They determined a value for the quantity of dark energy, namely that it comprises 71.3 ± 2.8 percent of all the stuff of the universe. This compares very favorably with the best WMAP measurement, which placed the quantity of dark energy at 71.2 percent. The SCP also produced the best constraint to date on possible variation over time of the dark energy parameter. While not proving that the dark energy parameter is strictly constant over the history of the universe, the SCP’s results were consistent with that parameter being constant.

Improved precision of the SCP’s results and their consistency with the best WMAP measurement of the cosmic microwave background radiation means that scientists now have reasons for even greater confidence in the big bang creation model. Thus, the cosmic creation model most consistent with the Bible remains even more securely established.

UFO’s and Extraterrestrial Aliens: Why Earth Has Never Been Visited
    by Rich Deem

Introduction Have alien intelligences from other parts of the universe visited the earth? This page is an attempt to rationally look at the issue of UFO’s and extraterrestrials. Within the last few years, scientists have gained considerable knowledge about the universe so that the question of extraterrestrial visitations can be addressed from a scientific, rational perspective.

Aliens visiting from elsewhere in the universe?Have we been visited by extraterrestrial beings from elsewhere in the universe? First, I would like to eliminate the idea that we have been visited by beings located outside our own galaxy. Andromeda, the nearest galaxy to the Milky Way is 2 million light years distant. This means that if there were aliens in Andromeda, it would take them longer than 2 million years to come to earth.1 Another problem is why they would want to visit our galaxy. The Andromeda galaxy is considerably larger than our galaxy. If life were common in the universe, there should be many times more of it in Andromeda, than in our wimpy galaxy. Why would they even want to visit us? A third problem for potential aliens is detecting us. We have been sending radio waves for less than 100 years. It will be another 2 million years before those signals reach our closest neighboring galaxy. The light (and other electromagnetic signals) that they now see represent the way the earth looked 2 million years ago. Beings in other galaxies would have no way of knowing that advanced life forms existed in our galaxy.

SETI – aliens in our own galaxy?Scientists have been actively searching for extraterrestrial intelligence in our galaxy for the last forty years. The search for extraterrestrial intelligence (SETI) has extended out to 40,000 light years from earth (in comparison, the galaxy is 100,000 light years across).2 To date, no signal from any extraterrestrial stellar system has ever been detected.

    A. THE UNIVERSE HAD A BEGINNING…
    1. Scientific discoveries in the past 50 years confirm the
    universe had a beginning
    2. The universe is expanding in outward directions, suggesting one
    point of origin
    — Every indication is that the universe began at some point

    B. HOW DID THE UNIVERSE BEGIN…?
    1. Many scientists subscribe to the “Big Bang” theory
    2. “Almost everyone now believes that the universe, and time
itself, had a beginning at the Big Bang.” – Stephen Hawkins
    3. But no one has been able to explain the cause of the “Big Bang”
    itself
    a. Some have speculated of multiple universes being formed ad
    infinitum
    b. But there is no evidence for such multiple universes
    4. Both scientist and Christian depend on faith to explain the
    beginning of the universe
    — God as described in the Bible is certainly a sufficient First
    Cause

[From the cosmos we turn our attention closer to home, where we
    discover...]

II. THE EVIDENCE OF PHYSICS AND ASTRONOMY

    A. THE FINE-TUNING OF THE UNIVERSE…
    1. More than thirty separate parameters require precise
calibration to produce a life-sustaining planet – Robert
    Collins, physicist-philosopher

    2. “If you change a little bit the laws of nature, or you change a
little bit the constants of nature — like the charge on the
electron — then the way the universe develops is so changed,
it is very likely that intelligent life would not have been
able to develop.” – Dr. Dennis Scania, head of Cambridge
    University Observatories

    3. “If we nudge one of these constants just a few percent in one
direction, stars burn out within a million years of their
formation, and there is no time for evolution. If we nudge it
a few percent in the other direction, then no elements heavier
than helium form. No carbon, no life. Not even any chemistry.
No complexity at all.” – Dr. David D. Deutsch, Institute of
    Mathematics, Oxford University

    4. “The really amazing thing is not that life on Earth is balanced
on a knife-edge, but that the entire universe is balanced on a
knife-edge, and would be total chaos if any of the natural
‘constants’ were off even slightly. – Dr. Paul Davies,
professor of theoretical physics at Adelaide University

    5. This “fine-tuning” is so pronounced, many scientists have come
to espouse “The Anthropic Principle,” which contends that the
universe was brought into existence intentionally for the
    sake of producing mankind
    — The possibility that life exists based on random chance alone
    is astronomical!

    B. SUGGESTING INTELLIGENT DESIGN…

    1. “The fine-tuning of the physical laws and constants of the
universe and the precise configuration of its initial
conditions…suggest the need for a cause that’s intelligent.”
    – Stephen C. Meyer, Science philosopher

    2. “It is hard to resist the impression that the present structure
of the universe, apparently so sensitive to minor alterations
in numbers, has been rather carefully thought out…” – Paul
    Davies, physicist

    3. “The seemingly miraculous concurrence of these numerical values
must remain the most compelling evidence for cosmic design.”
    – ibid.

    4. “It is quite easy to understand why so many scientists have
changed their minds in the past thirty years, agreeing that the
universe cannot reasonably be explained as a cosmic accident.”
    – Walter Bradley, scientist

    5. “Evidence for an intelligent designer becomes more compelling
the more we understand our carefully crafted habitat.” – ibid.

    6. “If the universe had not been made with the most exacting
precision we could never have come into existence.” – John A.
    O’Keefe, Harvard-educated astrophysicist of NASA

    7. “It is my view that these circumstances indicate the universe
was created for man to live in.” – ibid.

    — The evidence for intelligent design in physics and astronomy is
    overwhelming!

[From the fine-tuning of the universe and conditions required for life
on this planet, we turn our focus to smallest of cells and...]

    III. THE EVIDENCE OF BIOCHEMISTRY

    A. THE AMAZING MOLECULAR MACHINES…
    1. Such as the simple cell

    a. “Most scientists speculated that the deeper they delved into
the cell, the more simplicity they would find. But the
opposite happened.” – Michael Behe, biochemist

    b. “We have always underestimated the cell…The entire cell
can be viewed as a factory that contains an elaborate
network of interlocking assembly lines, each of which is
composed of a set of large protein machines.” – Bruce
Alberts, president, National Academy of Sciences

    2. Such as the bacterial flagellum

    a. “A flagellum is on the order of a couple of microns. A
micron is about 1/20,000 of an inch. Most of its length is
the propeller. The motor itself would be maybe 1/100,000ths
of an inch.” – Behe, ibid.

    b. “The flagellum’s propeller can spin at 10,000 rpm…can stop
spinning within a quarter turn and instantly start spinning
the other way at 10,000 rpm.” – ibid.

    c. “The most efficient machine in the universe” – Howard Berg
    of Harvard

    – Such complexity at the molecular level cannot be explained by
    the theory of evolution

    B. IMPLICATING INTELLIGENT DESIGN…

    1. “If the creation of a simple device (like a mouse trap)
requires intelligent design, then we have to ask, ‘What about
the finely tuned machines of the cellular world?’ – Behe, ibid.

    2. “If evolution can’t adequately explain them, then scientists
should be free to consider other alternatives.” – ibid.

    3. “Right now, there’s only one principle that we know can come up
with complex interactive systems, and that’s intelligence.”
    – ibid.

    – The EVIDENCE for intelligent design in biochemistry is
    mind-boggling!

[The amazing complexity of the cell is made possible because of the
instructions found in its DNA, which leads us to...]

IV. THE EVIDENCE OF BIOLOGICAL INFORMATION

    A. THE COMPLEXITY OF DNA…

    1. DNA is often compared to a set of blueprints or a recipe, or a
code, since it contains the instructions needed to construct
other components of cells, such as proteins and RNA molecules
    – Wikipedia

    2. “An organism accesses the information that it needs from DNA so
it can build some of its critical components.” – Meyer, ibid.

    3. “DNA is like a software program, only much more complex than
anything we’ve ever designed.” – Bill Gates, Microsoft

    4. “Human DNA contains more organized information than the
Encyclopedia Britannica.” – Georg Sim Johnson, Did Darwin Get
    It Right?

    5. “If the full text of the encyclopedia were to arrive in
computer code from outer space, most people would regard this
as proof of the existence of extraterrestrial intelligence.”
    – ibid.

    6. “But when seen in nature, it is explained as the workings of
    random forces.” – ibid.
    — The sequential and logical nature of DNA makes random forces
    highly unlikely

    B. INDICATING INTELLIGENT DESIGN…

    1. “Whenever you find a sequential arrangement that’s complex and
corresponds to an independent pattern or functional
requirement, this kind of information is always the product of
    intelligence.” – Meyer, ibid.

    2. “The origin of information in DNA – which is necessary for life
to begin – is best explained by an intelligent cause rather
than any of the types of naturalistic causes that scientists
typically use to explain biological phenomena.” – ibid.

    3. “This new realm of molecular genetics is where we see the most
compelling evidence of design on the earth.” – Dean Kenyon,
    biology professor

    4. “An honest man, armed with all the knowledge available to us
now, could only state that in some sense, the origin of life
appears at the moment to be almost a miracle, so many are the
conditions which would have had to have been satisfied to get
it going.” – Francis Crick, Nobel Prize winner

    – The evidence of intelligent design is found in the smallest
    building blocks of life!

    CONCLUSION

    1. In this brief presentation of “The Scientific Case For Creation”, we
    have touched on…
    a. The evidence of cosmology
    b. The evidence of physics and astronomy
    c. The evidence of biochemistry
    d. The evidence of biological information
    — All of which point toward creation by an intelligent designer

    2. As our scientific knowledge increases, so does evidence for creation
    by an intelligent designer…

    a. “Ironically, the picture of the universe bequeathed to us by the
most advanced twentieth-century science is closer in spirit to the
vision presented in…Genesis than anything offered by science
since Copernicus.” – Patrick Glynn, former atheist and author of
    God: The Evidence

    b. “It now seems to me that the findings of more than fifty years of
DNA research have provided materials for a new and enormously
powerful argument to design.” – Anthony Flew, philosopher and
    former atheist

Note: Much of the material in this lesson comes from “The Case For A
Creator” by Lee Strobel, which describes his own spiritual journey from
    atheist to believer.

Perhaps it would thus be fitting to conclude with this quotation:

“One of the most interesting things I’ve learned as I’ve gone
on this journey of scientific discovery has been that you don’t
have to commit intellectual suicide to acknowledge the existence
of an Intelligent Designer, because today science is pointing
more directly toward a Creator than at any time in the history
of the world.” – Lee Strobel

Confirming what the Bible revealed thousands of years ago…

    ” The heavens declare the glory of God;
And the firmament shows His handiwork.”

” Day unto day utters speech,
And night unto night reveals knowledge.”
    – Psalms 19:1-2

” For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes
are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made,
even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without
    excuse.” (Rom:1:20)

” By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word
of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things
    which are visible.” (Heb:11:3)

  19. David can you create a blog / post for Zoe. This way he/she can preach without interfering with the flow of other topics.

Please David? You could put the link at the top of the page.nice title would be
” The word according to Zoe ”

    Wha yuh tink?

  20. @Hants

It appears despite the intellectual capacity which Zoe professes he/she continues to be stubborn in understanding basic blog etiquette which should not be confused with freedom of speech issues.

Zoe has been warned so we shall see.

  21. @miller and for those of you who mght have selective thougt of convience the first order of business is to let your conscience be your guide in analysing what the government is doing for surely some of these policies were being adhere to in the past 14 year reing of the BLP and no one questioned .How hypocritical of the Nation to be firing the warning shout.where were their condemation 14 yrs ago if only they took the same approach back then.It would be more convincing

  22. @ ac

Thank you. I never take my eyes off of the opponent. As one who practices the original Okinawan goju ryu karate, you know all about being set up. I have the defenses, but does the opponent have the know how to deal with the lighting swift and deadly accurate counter?

Let stay with the topic though, Redjet. Let’s take it a little bit at a time, and start at the beginning.

Some questions and very pertinent considerations. Since one is starting an airline company, one needs airplanes. How do you begin the fleet planning process , and finally the acquisition of the RIGHT airplanes for the job at hand?

If you look at the Barbados , the proximity of the other islands, eventual destinations in the route structure , it jumps out directly that we are not talking long distances. Without going into too much detail, assume that the average trip length was between 200-260 nm, then fuel efficiency of the proposed or candidate aircraft would be the top priority. To evaluate the efficiency of those preselected aircraft on an equal basis, one would have to compare the require block fuel per distance/per seat( passenger). To fly one passenger on that kind of distance, the jet would use as much as 60% more than the turboprop, and in cases like a St.Lucia or Grenada hop even higher, probably as high as 70-75% more. Why then would anyone with any business acumen, decide to operate the jet?

    Secondly here are some considerations, which it seems were totally ignored by Redjet. You always start with the lower capacity aircraft, and progressively over time ,increase the capacity as the routes develop, not as was done by Redjet and start at the highest capacity and most inefficient , uneconomical airplane and cut capacity as you fail to fill the seats. Smart . Some fleet planning tips to look at in the planning stage/ before not after launch ;

    1. Capacity between 50 and 70 seats;

    2. Compatibility of the potential aircraft with the selected routes and with destination airports

    3. Best fuel efficiency on the selected routes;

    4.Facility to subcontract the entire maintenance with minimum costs;

5.Lowest Operating Leasing rates and flexibility of leasing conditions

The better choice of airplane would have been the ATR 72, ATR
    42, DHC -8-300.

Since the maximum sector distance is probably Georgetown, approx 400 nm , and the maximum diversion distance will not exceed 150 nautical miles in 90% of their routes, there is no need to make “payload-range”comparison. All those aircraft are suitable for this kind of operation and fully capable of transporting maximum payload on these distances or just about maximum, certainly on the short routes.

    @ ross

I am not sure about common ground between us, maybe so but seems like Zoe was reading my mind when he answered you.He just beat me to it.

A little aviation indulgence is not un-Christian.

  23. Why all the anti Zoe sentiment? The man/woman is passionate , honest and forthright. His/her loyalty shows through and through and I think he/she should be complimented for standing up for , and defending the truth.

If one has a counter argument , then bring the facts , not fantasy , not sticks and stones.

  24. The issue is not about being anti-Zoe. BU’s track record is clear about embracing all.

The issue is about Zoe cutting and pasting 2000 words in a comment which forces some who follow the blogs via BB devices etc to have issues.

He can simply copy the first paragraph and post the link under.

It is a simple courtesy which some should be minded.

Why whenever there is feedback which one should logically evaluate and action we immediately retreat to clannish behaviour?

It must be a human condition which belies academic capacity.

  25. @ David

Point taken, I am sure Zoe will agree also. But you have never seen anti Zoe sentiment on the BU, ever , have you? You are pointing to specifics, I was referring to the general attitude towards the person. Academic capacity. We won’t go there. The blog is yours, for me this is passing time between more important duties.

  26. @PH.D

There is anti BLP, DLP,xenophobic, homophobic, atheist, agnostic, BU and the list is long.

Point is that Zoe is a Christian and is allowed by BU to defend his faith as stoutly as he/she wants like we do all others with ‘positions’.

The little we ask is for Zoe or any other to respect one or two unwritten rules which allow for all of us to share the virtual space with minimum discomfort.

  27. @An Observer

You seem to be titillated by the use of words presented by the masters of old. This is one is for your rumination.

“His/her loyalty shows through and through and I think he/she should be complimented for standing up for , and defending the truth.
If one has a counter argument , then bring the facts , not fantasy , not sticks and stones.”

The TRUTH!! Whose Truth? Truth according to Zoe?
There are no counter arguments to the ‘TRUTH”. NO FACTS to bring!
The Truth is like a coin with an opposite side call “The”LIE”.
So if you see Zoe’s presentations as the Truth, then all other religions and faiths are based on LIES. Do you agree! Sorry, but I must box you to get a direct answer regarding the validity of other religions and faith in their quest to find “TRUTH”.

  29. Random Thoughts

Prodical Son “REDjet Irish partners were given certain assurances from the minister responsible for aviation. The minister was housed, wined, dined and given free access to a top of the line vehicle for him and his wife to enjoy whilst on a trip to Ireland.”

    Oh yeah??????

  30. Nnaki/Ralian,

“The TRUTH!! Whose Truth? Truth according to Zoe?
“There are no counter arguments to the ‘TRUTH”. NO FACTS to bring!”

Mr. Lizard/Man, Your second line HIT it right on target, for the FIRST TIME!

“There are no counter arguments to the ‘TRUTH’. NO FACTS to bring!”

EXACTLY SO, Lizard/Man, as you et al of your Ilk, HAVE “…NO counter arguments to the ‘TRUTH’. (I have presented, scientifically, historically, logically, etc, supportive of God’s Word, the Bible) NO FACTS to bring!” NONE, absolutely NONE!

This IS* in the context of the argument for the Historic Judeo/Christian Worldview, Creation vs Evolution, the ONLY THING, you’ve EVER said, Lizard/Man, that IS TRUE!

Your FIRST effort, at being intellectually HONEST! Congrats!

  31. @ David, With due respect to your request and explanation re long post; how come when GP and Dictionary a few years ago, myself included, when all three of us posted LONG comments, it was not an issue then?

Was it that others then did not have these fancy BB, so it was not a problem?

    Just asking!

  32. @ David, BTW, BU WAS* the first blog I ever got into, and I did not, and still, plead genuine ignorance, on Blog etiquette, which I’m not familiar with; unlike others on BU, I’m ALWAYS willing to learn what I do NOT know about!

  33. @Zoe

    A good question.

It has been a learning experience and as we have gone along, five years this month, the learnings have come based on that experience.

  34. @ PhD

Pity. Doctrine is not an answer to the point I was making….any more than it is to the dark night. In your effortless supremacy and, you know, you DO have a tendency to boast, sadly finer points elude you.
BUT – on the question of determination and even courage in relation to Zoe, yes I have a similar feeling though those qualities are not unique to her. As for ‘honesty’ I’m less sure; and as for your karate and all that – bring it on fella.

    @ Hants

Re your Zoe suggestion – an accord twice in one day! But see my ‘In praise of Zoe’ which may yet come. Mind – though I read most things on here, I’ve stopped reading her.

  35. Richard King

With all due respect to Zoe,can we keep this blog on the Redjet issue.History is a serious teacher if only we find time to read and research before major decisions are made.In the early 70′s Courtline introduced BAC 111 into the LIAT fleet(They had taken over LIAT) and eventually went bankrupt largely owing to high maintenance costs(engine changes in particular) encountered in operating short sectors on short airfields.Caribair, about the same time started operating on similar routes to LIAT and eventually introduced a DC9 with the same result. Then in the 90′s along come Carib Express with another BAE jet aircraft and they too went bankrupt.Low airfares are popular but unsustainable.Unfortunately, high operating costs are a major factor in this industry and in this region and without a measure of subsidisation Redjet does not stand a chance. My view however,is that Redjet is good for Barbados tourism and a way should be found to assist the airline to . remain in business.

  36. Why Christianity is exclusive: the only true religion

“It is commonly considered “correct” to view all religions as having equal value. I would like to explain why this is impossible for a believing Christian.”

“The Bible is the inerrant Word of God. It represents the Truth, as presented to us by the Lord. You’ll note that I did not say, “Christians believe…”. This is because it is not what is believed by Christians, but what we know to be true.”

“We may accept these statements on faith but it is not on the level of belief, in the way I may say, “I believe it will rain tomorrow”, which contains at least a minimal element of doubt even if it has rained for a week and the weatherman says it will continue. It is faith on the level that says, “Spring will follow Winter, and Fall will follow Summer”. It is faith that is proven, true, evidential, and indisputable.”

    http://www.religioustolerance.org

  37. the question which baffles the mind Jesus was a JEW he never parctice any other form of religion up until his death and his ressurrection.Yet christianity for all intended purposes seem to lost sight of the fact that the man who they have belief and faith in religion and customs are totally different from that of christianity . Yet we talk about “TRUTH”

  38. Sorry to interject on this thread Topic, but this is in answer to such questions presented on this thread!

Why believe in Christianity over all other Religions?

    Fulfilled Prophecy concerning Jesus
    By Matt Slick,

“Though there are other religions that have prophecies in them, none are 100% accurate as is the Bible, and none of them point to someone like Jesus who made incredible claims and performed incredible deeds. The Old Testament was written hundreds of years before Jesus was born, yet the Old Testament prophesied many things about Jesus. This is undoubtedly evidence of divine influence upon the Bible.”

“Please consider some of the many prophecies of Jesus in the following chart:

Prophecy Old Testament Prophecy New Testament Fulfillment

Born of a virgin Isaiah 7:14 -Fulfilled in -Matt. 1:18,25

  39. Did Jesus sternly REBUKE the ‘Jews’? Yes, He most certainly did?

    A Warning Against False Teaching

” As we have already seen, Matthew 15, 16, and 17, the central chapters in the gospel of Matthew, record a turning point in the ministry of Christ. The crowds continue to follow Him. But now even the crowds openly reject His message and His claims to be Messiah. They continue wanting to be healed by Him; they continue to want to see the miracles that He performs; but they turn their backs on His teaching. Now the Pharisees and the Sadducees, the religious leaders of Israel, (JEWS, like Jesus)! are now more than ever openly opposed to Christ, and clearly plotting to embarrass Him, to marginalize Him, and worse. We see these things in these passages before us.|

” Today we focus on the first 12 verses of Matthew chapter 16, where Jesus REBUKES the Pharisees and the Sadducees,( JEWS) and He issues a stern warning about the dangers of false teaching, and the pernicious influence of evil character in religious leaders. So let’s hear God’s holy word beginning in Matthew 16:1. This is the word of God.”
    http://www.fpcjackson.org

  40. yes Jesus did rebuke the Rabbis of the Jewish Faith but that does not say that he rebuke or denounce or even turn his back on the Jewish Faith religion or customs. Yes he was critical about there way of sticking to laws and practices which they themselves did not live up to while expecting others to do so. however JESUS up until his ascension never once mentioned the word Christian or others of differing faith or even gave such a thought as he was born a Jew ! died a Jew ! resurrected ba JEW ! ascended into heaven a JEW! according to bible teaching nothing in the bible states differently as to Jesus religious upbringing and his beliefs!

    @ Zoe | March 24, 2012 at 11:26 AM |
“The light (and other electromagnetic signals) that they now see represent the way the earth looked 2 million years ago. Beings in other galaxies would have no way of knowing that advanced life forms existed in our galaxy.”
“The search for extraterrestrial intelligence (SETI) has extended out to 40,000 light years from earth (in comparison, the galaxy is 100,000 light years across).”

The reason why aliens from other worlds have not been detected is because they are still living in their gardens of Eden. They have not yet been beguiled by any serpents to sin and be kicked out to develop technology gained from picking knowledge from the devil tree. They still live in pristine primitive conditions with two of every kind so no need to build an Ark or develop radio devices to communicate with Earthly sinners and murderers.
Now Zoe, pick up the signal and decode the meaning contained in the message you have just been sent from the lizard.
Maybe you will have to wait another 1.990 million years to receive the signal since in your world the Earth is only about 10, 000 years old.

  42. millertheanunnaki

@ “Ac”, meanwhile back on planet Earth.
Notice that the rag sheet that you so vilely denounce as only good for use in the toilet has indicated that the PM would be having talks with Redjet. For what? Waste of time that could be spent reading the CLICO report or announcing the appointment of a new GG!
Redjet wants money? So too does Barrack and the public workers. What about the UWI and the hospital?
Talk up ac, don’t go burying your head in the rag sheet!

  43. “Mr. Lizard/Man, Your second line HIT it right on target, for the FIRST TIME!”

Lizard/Man, That little ‘flicker’ of being intellectually honest, was blown out like a ‘match’ in a Hurricane! Instead, the resident DEMONS in your soul/mind, continue their ‘strangle’ HOLD on your immaginary Nnaki/Ralian STUPOR, deception to the hilth of IGNORANCE!

  44. @ac, Sadly, you do not have a CLUE about what you are attempting to converse on re Jesus being a Jew, in His humanity, AND the express purpose HE, as the Eternal WORD of God, BECAME man, in His Incarnation, God/Man!

Trying to teach you on this subject matter, is like trying to teach a ‘child, about Astrophysics, who is just learing to ADD 1 + 1 = 2!

Sorry! But you just won’t understand; strickingly similiar to Nnaki/Ralian, Ross, and others, in their respective mess of DECEPTION on Biblical matters!

  45. Miller as a taxpayer i have already lodge my displeasure by social media about giving anymoney to REDJET as a matter of fact the eager11of us have mobilse a campaign in respond to the arguments that would be floated around infavour of the 8mill

  46. ZOE rabbi teach the un knowledgeable. Oh ye of little FAITH!

MY Question was JESUS of the JEWISH faith?

  47. Zoe sorry to have rattled your cage but from all historical perspective Jesus was a JEW! and ye shall know the TRUTH and the TRUTH shall set you FREE!
FACTS and content goes hand in hand.one cannot be divorced of each other! if not the story becomes FALSE. Now for you to condemn me to a life and an afterlife of “Fiery hell” for telling the TRUTH is not Christian. Jesus as he is referred to by Christians set out to bring TRUTH to the jewish political walls and never denounced or change his FAITH while doing so! Now pray tell me how it is possible for the CHristian religion to parade a jewish person as a head of a religion he was never a part of while he was on earth. What will Jesus Think.

  49. Colonel Buggy

Lets wait and observe the eagerness and speed with which the Prime Minister deals with the Red Jet case, compared to other burning issues which are affecting many Barbadians.
He who inserts money in the Juke Box, punches the tunes.

  50. New International Version (NIV)

11 “He (Jesus) came to that which was his own,(the world) but His own(The Jews, Judiasm) did (NOT) receive Him. 12 Yet to all (others) who did receive Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.” (John 1:11-13)

Why did the Leaders of Judaism, from the OT, NOT receive Jesus as Messiah? Why was He REJECTED, by them, IF, He declared the rites and rituals of Judaism?

What IS* the Church that Jesus founded, and built on His Name and TEACHINGS? Where the teachings of Jesus, for His CHURCH, based on the Laws, rituals, etc, on Judaism?

What was the purpose of Jesus keeping and FULFILLING the Law of OT Judaism?

  51. the prime minister does not have to work with any speed to get the financially strapped Redjet up and flying maybe Redjet can indulge the deep pockets of some of the high falluted friends into getting Red jet off the ground. We the taxpayers don’t owe Red jet and their fat cat shareholders any thing, Off the Ground What? what speed. This is a private investor who foolishly ignore the warning bells at his own peril now it is his to fix. Caricom already told RED JET to go Fly a Kite and Barbados must stay out of this fiery crash and not be caught up in the political firestorm that soon will begin. in this case silence is golden.

  52. PM call elections now

    Priority List:

    - …
    - Redjet

  53. Carson C. Cadogan

Not one RED cent of my tax money should go to REDJET. However it is not up to me.

  54. In a related matter, note that the following website has been taken down:

  55. Smooth Chocolate

during Owen Arthur’s time Simpson Motors, courtesy garage etc sent a signed letter to the PM asking that the duty be increased on reconditioned cars, from $120. to $1,200. they got their wish. Kyffin Simpson came out in the Sunday Sun and categorically denied it. the following sun, one of the small car dealers produced the letter with all the signatures. i say that to say this, Kyffin Simpson is too dishonest for my liking, he et al went all out to halt the small man from making a dollar just because they became a threat to he and other car dealers. They were successful. along with that only about 3 weeks ago, the same Kyffin Simspon and et al signed a letter requesting that government halt the importation of the disassemble cars. now he took his money to invest in Red Jet and liar that he is, gave people the impression that they were getting assistance from no one. i would like Barbados to have its own airline but since Simpson and Williams are a part of it, i hope it flops. they have no interest in seeing the man at the bottom rise above the water. he thinks he is still living in 1800s when one of the Slave laws was that the black man should NEVER have more the white another one was if land was valued at $1., the black was mandated to pay $10. for it. this ensured that the white prosper and the black continue to struggle. probably that’s how he and people like Williams got their inheritance, while their black workers got theirs too – which was none. i am sick of these crappy, swibbly white men, with no interest in anyone but themselves, i hope Red Jet stays where it is, Belly up.

  56. for the benefit of redjet sympathisers, i refer readers to the poignant post of november 20, 2011 by Looking Glass. Redjet used dishonest means to capture the sensibilities of travellers by folling them that cheap flights were possible and problem free in this day and age with visionary management. in so doing, they gave the public the impression that the management of liat were mercenary like in their fare charging. now the chickens have come home to roost, they are crying wolf, wolf. i have had the opportunity to travel on redjet and must say i was impressed but always in the back of my mind was how long will this largesse last given all the empirical evidence in the public domain abou the cost of running an airline. i hold no brief for Liat but lest we forget Liat to its credit has had to withstand competition from carriers like carribean star, carribean sun and caribbean express and without lowering fares like redjet to combat the competition drive them out of the market prevailed. Airline is a costly business and the business like any other business cannot be run to satisfy the interests of those who want cheap travel.Regional governments have too much to lose with a failed Liat and rather than dipsydoodling should educate their constituents to know where their interests lie. There are ponzis in many forms and these bloodsucking internationg vulturistic investors see these what they perceive as banana republics asa means to an end. The international principals of Redjet are not looking for concessions but for cash. Redjet if it is really interested in becoming a viable carrier with the interestsof the public really at heart can absorb their losses and move forward with amore practical model for sustainability.
