Not in Barbados!
First congratulations to the newly appointed Governor General and Madame Loretta: another tribute to location.
Yes there is and will always be racism even among Whites. For some Whites it is a reaction to their lower class status especially after being given a title by a Black government. Blacks too are in practical terms most guilty of racism. For us it is a convenient excuse that enables us to blame others for our shortcomings. Some Whites who did not marry Blacks passed on financial and other inheritance to their black mistresses and their offspring. It led to the Black Class System (Re Comments To Rescue and Rebuild) within which those with brown-skin were considered not to be “One uh We”, treated like Whites and discriminated against. But no one talks about black racism which in many ways was more vicious than white racism.
Some left high school with a birth certificate, worked for a mixed-race owned company and never reached management level. Now one low class White soul pontificates about white racism. Does marriage to a high-brown render one anti racist? His observations suggest he knows nothing about our history, less about socio-political and economic dynamics and is very untruthful.
In Barbados Sold we are told that Blacks tolerated a relationship with the dominant white minority group who enjoy a disproportionate economic influence “which extends to the political sphere,” that Whites decided not to “fully integrate their businesses” and the unwillingness of governments to “react to the aggressive acquisition of Barbados assets.” Exactly what does he mean?
The Whites, some of whom were slaves built, developed, governed the country (Little England 1-2) and provided the social services we today enjoy until we voted them out of politics. Their businesses, some owned by the racially mixed, were by far the largest employer of blacks. Their offspring developed and expanded the businesses they inherited. Black businesses on the other hand died with their founders. Most of their offspring opted for education and or the white-collar job. In the last 100 or so years the indigenous Whites, including those of mixed origin, were not more than 25% of the total population. Less than 5% have a university degree. They not Blacks or government are the economy.
The suggestion/implication that local firms rejected financial bids from Blacks is an insult to Niggers. Among other things it implies that it would reduce inequality and poverty. Are there 30 Blacks who together could afford to purchase any of the firms sold to Trinidad? The businesses were sold because they were not doing well and there wasn’t much by way offspring to carry on the business. Given the absence of skills and expertise needed to maintain and develop business integration by elevating Blacks to management level remains questionable.
Successive governments and others are blamed for failing to “react to the aggressive acquisition of Barbados Assets,” and for permitting such transactions. The assets are owned by people not the Government. Government cannot dictate to people how to dispose of their businesses or how to distribute their wealth. It cannot create or multiply wealth by dividing or redistributing it. Nor can it legislate the poor out of poverty by legislating wealth away from prosperity. To give it has to take from others. The White-man has no responsibility for the woes of Blacks who have done little to help themselves or the country.
And governments are accused of ‘collaborating’ with whites. This from one who I believe worked for a firm bought by Trinidad, who never reached management level, contributed nothing to society (no community involvement) but was awarded a title. Perhaps he has a point. Being so openly critical of a government that blessed him a title and the Whites says a lot about his socio-phycological dynamics. A major business was sold to the French who offered less than a locally owned company because the mixed-race owners of the local company were deemed to be racist. So could it be that he opposed Trinidadians buying our assets because they fired the Knight? Some of the ‘Trinidadians’ are related not foreigners.
Blogger asked how many whites “integrate blacks in their class by marriage.” A few married blacks. The Knighted soul married a light-brown. Some of those considered pure whites are racially mixed and owned the largest businesses on the Rock. I believe you worked for them. How did you know whites castigated Bizzy and boycotted the wedding? Were you there?
Yes they were white public school teachers at Combermere, Lodge School, Harrison College and policemen. The principal of Harrison College, Fred Haskell, took a black boy short of clothing to Broad Street, bought him some clothing and gave free him private lessons. The boy won a Barbados scholarship. This was at a time of the GCE, when Barbados was said to have one of the best education systems in the world. Today the evaluation of our education by 2 leading universities (UK and Canada) is to put it mildly embarrassing. Others wonder based on the written and spoken word if some of you got past 3rd standard.
Captain Farmer of the police force discovered Sir Gary at a time when he couldn’t get past Spartan club door. The all-white selection committee of Barbados Cricket and the captain John Goddard selected the three Ws, Griffith and Hall (who later represented the West Indies) to play for Barbados. As a schoolboy my team and I had the privilege of being coached on the field and in the pavilion by Norman Marshall and Dennis Atkinson during a first division match against Wanderers and also at Pickwick.
You assume Whites want to “block black middle class from success.” My great-grand parents and some of the clan all had their own businesses which they started from scratch. Many of their offspring opted for education rather than business and attended university. Six of them are “Icons” in the political arena there and in the USA. Did the Whites block them from success?
I grew up in an area surrounded by real poverty at a time when ham was a luxury, when families helped each other and the high school was expensive and costly in more ways than one. Today some of the kids from the area hold the biggest positions on the island and in government. Others are professionals there, Cave Hill,North America and the UK. An exception is Onion Bags, a disaster who I believe did not make it past standard seven. Did Whitee tried but failed to block their success?
You claim governments have “roles to ensure that businesses do not have significant leverage in economies by forcing companies to break up if they become dominant.” If that were the case there would be no monopolies in the world. Do yourself a big favour. Take not what you believe or were told for granted. Do some research or investigation before commenting.
In the international world i.e.US,UK and Canada for example Blacks have been intermarrying and therefore the Black identity and socio-economic dynamic which obtains in Barbados is at odds with what is happening in these countries. Bear in mind the dominant host population in Barbados is Black and even though the youngsters are more liberal in views BU remains concern that the power structures and centres of influence remain delineated by race.

In any event, its origins have nothing to do with those Europeans who converted to Judaism. Laws and regulations are the LEAST efficient way of change, cultural change and minset are far more powerful!
Its like regulating that (just playing devils advocate) women should cover their legs and faces in public…because you want to cut down on sexual encounters by not making them so attractive. etc., thus cutting down on STD’s.
What you have to do is educate and create a cultrure where people want to test, refrain from sudden wild interaction, at great risk, to a mature approach at such activity.
My point is that mindsets and attitudes are far more important than anything you could come up with, in moving effective change.
Hence, why I say the young are the future.

Anglicanism is a dying institution. In England (where it was first bastardized) it is almost dead just ready for burial after the remaining real estate is sold off for 30 pieces of silver to pay for its coffin. One can expect a similar fate to soon play out in Little England.
But why would we want to hasten its demise? We should stop beating and riding a mortally wounded horse. Let it live a bit longer to confess its sins and remove scales that currently cover the spiritual eyes of black Bajans. By admitting on its deathbed to the myriad falsehoods told to blacks to keep them stupid under the Church’s exploitative union jack it would not only be offloading a lot of spiritual deadweight for its past transgressions but would also be giving Blacks a dose of psychological catharsis much needed for their true mental and the n economic liberation. Rev. Charles Morris must be congratulated for his boldness to open the gates that lead to the truth and hopefully some form of initial reconciliation between that dying PR agency for the slave traders, plantation owners and the mercantile class and the culturally destroyed blacks who have been seen only as collateral damage in the pursuit of wealth and profits for the sugar barons and the Church hierarchy back in the Mother Land.
By spilling its guts before its final breath, the Anglican Church would start a fire with the spark of Truth that would spread among its many offshoots now vying to inherit the title of chief conjurer and exploiter of the black masses and destroy the evil roots and shoots of these modern day peddlers of the ‘Prosperity Gospel’ and the ‘get-rich-through-Jesus’ ideology.

I don’t know how the date for the celebration of the Passover is determined in any given year but I seriously doubt that its existence is determined by any astrological or astonomical event.
Do you know what astrological or astronomical event might determine its existence?!!

The Jewish Pass-Over is equivalent to the Christian ‘Easter’. The celebration of the advent of Spring in the Northern Hemisphere goes way back to Pagan times and long before Judaism.
Like Easter, its timing is dependent on the fall of the first full moon after the vernal equinox.
It marks astrologically the passing of the Sun (Son Jesus) from the winter to the light and warmth of spring for the land to produce sustenance for the people. This celebration is played out in the play of the passion or crucifixion of the Christian Jesus and his resurrection. In other words, his “Passing Over” to another dimension of life.
The same way we refer today to people when they die as “passing” on or away to another dimension.
The Passover occurred long before the Resurrection.
Even Desmond Dekker seems comfortable that the Israelites were slaves and sung a song which seems to indicate this.
Perhaps he is even likening the slaves that were brought out of Africa to the Israelites, slaves who were brought in to Africa.

What do you mean by that statement? They are both religious festivals celebrated after the Vernal Equinox as recognition of the arrival of Spring.
It is true that Judaism predates Christianity so it follows that the celebration of the Pass Over would predate the recognition or celebration of the Christian version of the “Resurrection” which is less than 2000 years old.
Desmond Dekker was just like most black people in the West Indies who are intellectual slaves to the Bible and interpret it in its literal form. He would have even sung a song saying that we are all descendants of Adam and Eve and really believe that is true; even if Cain kill his brother Abel and impregnated his sister who just came out of nowhere.
Easter exists to celebrate the Resurrection, the Passover to celebrate the Exodus of the Israelites out of captivity in Egypt.
The celebration of the two occurs around the same time because the Crucifixion occurred around the time as the celebration of the Passover.
For various reasons, not all Christians celebrate Easter … or for that matter Christmas!!

Sorry to disappoint you John but the Crucifixion just like the Passover is a ‘celebration’ and not an actual event. There is no evidence in Egyptian history about Jews being captured and enslaved in Egypt for centuries or evidence of some “exodus”. Moses is a mythical figure (a leader of any oppressed people and copied from Babylonian legend) not a real person that led the Jews out of Egypt and wrote the Pentateuch or the First Five books of the Old Testament (some writers even refer tosixth and seventh).
If you, John, are so sure that an actual crucifixion took place it must have occurred on a specific date and possibly recorded in Jewish or Roman history. Can you refer to the source of such a record?
Unlike date of Jesus’ birth which is always fixed (25th of December – “the re-birth of the Sun”) the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus is a moving date or festival in the Christian calendar.
The astrological basis of the resurrection is as follows:
Easter must always fall on the First Sunday (the day of the Sun) after the first Full Moon after the Vernal (Spring) Equinox. So Easter (the Christian day of Resurrection) can fall as early as the 22nd March of the Christian calendar solar year or much later in April depending on the phases of the moon.
So please John, don’t take every thing you read at face value and attach a literal interpretation to it. There is more in the biblical mortar than just the simplistic Christian pestle.

You see how hard it is to “de-programme” a simple naive people who have been subjected to almost two centuries of religious indoctrination by their economic masters and even longer enduring cultural emasculation of the worst order? Not even the fictitious Jews in the fables would have been subjected to the total stripping of their heritage, family ties and self-worth.
West Indian blacks, especially, are in a very bad shape psychologically and only a final admission by the Church that the whole Christianity con game is a big lie- the biggest ever told- would bring some opportunity for the blacks to see some light and move in that direction to get on the road of mental recovery.

If you choose to not accept that assertion, then fine, I have nothing to prove, but that is how the ‘world’ sees the Jewish Nation, even if a few here do not, for whatever purposes suit their argument.

The Church of England contains so many strands that that becomes, as it has always been, the defining spirit of Anglicanism. You can’t readily pin it down. Here, of course and as you suggest, there is really only one though I think you are unfair to link the Church with the offshoots you mention. And I do think there are many here who do seek ‘fresh expressions’ of ‘Church’. Do remember, not everyone in the Church subscribes to the one strand and they do, I think, see beyond the horizon with you.

I also know a lot about the UK.
So tell me Crusoe, when a man is walking the streets of London can you tell if he is a Jew by the colour of his skin? No! No! A Yid is only seen as a Yid by his cultural (religious) accoutrements and appearance. The same way you can differentiate a Rastafarian from a black bald head.
Do you know how many Jews are at the centre of power in British society?
