    This one is going to be difficult. Although Agard is riding on the coat tail of Duguid, We must also look at the hard work Abed was devoting to the area and with DePeiza’s popularity might give her the edge.

    At the moment Agard has the edge. Abed even with the swing in 2008 was soundly beaten with Duguid getting 58% of the vote.

    Depeiza will not benefit in any way from Abed’s hard work. The DLP sealed that with their choice of her though being trounced 90- something to 12. Votes at a branch election. Any hope the DLP had of rallying their base and winning this seat ia lost. Plus, CCW is Bee country to begin with.

    Her only hope would be to get Taan’s endorsement and active support…..but I suspect pigs will fly first.

    I’m at pains to add that next election would have been the BEST chance for CCW to swing to the DLP under Abed’s history there, groundwork and finances. Alas hope is now lost.

    Maria is a no newcomer to politics,she served as President for Ch Ch west branch ,sits on party councils,and have been one of the strong and faithful voices on Dr.Duguid campaign trail.I am sure by now she would have covered most of her constituency.Maria have the ability to make things happen.She has a motto “You can count on me”and indeed she will.

    Dr. Maria Agard will win the constituency of ch ch west in the next election, Maria has a big advantage over Verla Depiza. 1: Maria is a wonderful person who has lots of charisma , 2 she is known in the constituency an had canvass it with Mr Duguid, 3 with an 8% swing away from the BLP in 2008 the DLP best candidate couldn’t beat the BLP an now with a 12% swing away from the government an with they weakest candidate I can’t see how Verla can beat Maria .

    Dr Agard will win this seat hands down…i do not suspect a tad bit of competition coming from someone who received less than 1% of the votes at the nomination to override the candidate who won hands down…Dr Agard has been working smartly within the constituency doing her house to house and other types of canvassing. She has also been working as the representative for the area even though she does not have the seat as yet. Plus she is also endorsed by Dr Duguid…I’d call it a no show for De Peiza…BLP ready to RESCUE REBUILD & RESTORE

    Dr. Agard is a hardworking, dedicated, caring servant of the people. Her desire to represent Ch Ch West will be certainly be secured in the next general election. The people of the constituency have shown in the past that they know and appreciate such a person, one who will stand with them without no matter the circumstance…and she has clearly shown those qualities are at the core of her political sojourn, and with her as a representative Ch Ch West will continue to flourish. RESCUE REBUILD RESTORE.

    Yes we have some enthusiastic BLP supported for Dr. Agard. Let us have a day or two for them to get familiar ie using multiple ids and although partisan bring substantive points to support positions.

    The DLP people have been informed but since the death of Thompson it is evident the DLP presence in social media has been negatively affected. An example is that candidate for St. Thomas does nat have an Internet presence at all. This is 2012 for godsakes.

    After losing a nomination by almost 90% of the votes, tell me why is Verla DePeiza on the DLP’s Christ Church West Election Ticket?
    She is not seen in the Christ Church West Constituency canvassing of trying to make any ground before the election season is called, maybe she have some sort of “plan” I hope it’s not a sinister plan.

    Maria Agard is always “doing things”; meeting with people, chatting with different personalities, greeting all sorts of character and making her presences felt in the Christ Church West Constituency.

    Verla DePeiza seems to be running a campaign on CBC TV as some sort of Television Lawyer with her little question and answer segment. That is the only time the people of Christ Church West is seeing her.

    I personally think, Dr. Maria Agard will make a sterling contribution to Christ Church West, the Barbados Labour Party, the Parliament of Barbados and serve the country well.

    Sorry to say, but Verla just ain’t cutting it, Maria Agard like tie-dye, she’s mixing and matching and coming out beautiful and eye catching.

    It goes without saying it . . . that Dr. Maria Agard is the candidate who will definitely win the constituency seat for Christ Church West hands down. However, what is worthy of being noted is that unlike the D.L.P candidates who are confidents (in some areas such as St. Lucy, St. Philip North, and even St. John), Dr. Agard has a grace of humility over the situation. This is admirable in a candidate and it shows the genuineness and sincerity of individual and this is why it is no surprise to me the people of Ch. Ch. West is so receptive of welcoming her as the next representative in the upcoming elections. Despite some people would want to say that Maria is a newcomer to politics, this can be quickly refuted as Maria has served on countless political committees while holding post such as Branch President for Ch. Ch. West (under the leadership of Dr. Duguid), served on the southern zone branch, chair countless political meetings and was on the campaign trail with Dr. Duguid for some time now!!!

    It is shocking to hear EDUCATED Barbadians having the opinion that a candidate will ride on a previous candidate for the area coat (but then again it’s just an opinion) . . . One need to note that even though that Duguid has left a good reputation for Maria to follow, she has to chart her own legacy and allow the people of Ch. Ch. West see what she has to offer as a candidate. At present, that D.L. P government needs to be flush as they are an ideal replica of sewage and filth – waiting to have the chair of opposition again. Being an analytical student of life, it is evident that Ch. Ch. West is a B.L.P strong hole and that has its advantages for Dr. Agard but also added to that is her charisma, love, passion, dedication, commitment, understanding and experiences of challenges seen and/or faced in the constituency.

    If it is one thing I can confidently say is that I am positive that Maria had covered majority if not all of her constituency and given the fact that she has the endorsement of Dr. Duguid – this is as good as Duguid himself facing back the people of Ch. Ch. West and asking for their continual support. Given the analytical strategy by the Bees, I cannot say with surety that if Tann Abed had run against Dr. Agard that he would have had a better chances than his successor in beating Maria, especially given my above mentioned reason why Dr. Agard has this constituency. As mentioned by a earlier by LadyMag, the people of the Ch. Ch. West constituency have shown they support in the past to the candidate they know and appreciate . . . and Maria is that person – so I expect the people of Ch. Ch. West to be standing by her side and placing their X next to her name on elections day.

    It look like Emmerton relocating because all the above talking bare sh*te. If you listen to the above, you would think that Mother Teresa was running. Verla Depeiza has been working in communities across Barbados for the last 20 years, representing many poor persons and many times for FREE- She is a mother, intelligent and commited to principle.
    She sticks to her word and is totally committed to service and would be a fantastic representative.
    If people in Christ Church West evaluate these two women objectively, there is no doubt that Verla would be a better champion of the people.

    Can you please tell me some more jokes? When Tan is finished with Depeiza there will be nothing left for Agard to deal with. The likely result will be Agard, Abed followed in the distance by Depeiza.
    Agard continues to enjoy generous goodwill in CCW where she was born and still have family connections. She has worked tirelessly in the last of Sir Henry’s campaigns and was in the forefront of political efforts on the behalf of the BLP ever since. She has transitioned well from the role of support/coordinator to candidate and continues to serve the constituents of CCW with diligence as can be seen in her untiring efforts on their behalf.
    A successful, business woman, Maria is well known for her legendary organisational skills, attention to detail and passion for hard work. Qualities which will undoubtedly will redound to her benefit.
    Agard you have my full support and rest assured “YOU CAN COUNT ON ME”

I have read and listen to comments being made by the REGISTERED VOTERS of this constituency and based on statistic it is evident that Maria Agard has this seat hands down.

    However, you made some comments earlier you would think Mother Teresa was running.Well let me set your record straight, you can tell all your friends and other D.L.P supporters a replica of mother Teresa is running for Ch Ch West. Someone who has left and indelible impression on the mind of the people within this constituency. Remember I Fabyeon Burgess tell you this on this day, you would never hear none of the comments or rumours being attributed to Maria Agard – especially when it comes to treating people fairly and giving them thier desire salary/ wage. Now i would not go over the repeated testimonies made by the numerous person who comment on this feed about Maria Agard. But What i would like to be drawn to my attention is the names of the communities across Barbados that Verla Depeiza has been working in for the last 20years, I would love a testimony from ONE POOR PERSON who can say they recieve assistance from Verla Depeiza and even though I would not refute her honesty, being a mother, or having a commitment to principle (I have to ask – which principle is this?? Is it principles of her personal accounts? Need Clarity!!!). While you are making up a convincing story to sweep me off my feet, I suggest you add a pitch line the the area of your Eulogy where you mentioned that Depeiza is totally committed to service and would be a fantastic representative!!!

    Last but not least I must partially agree with you on one thing, If the kind-hearted people of Christ Church West evaluate these two women objectively, honestly and sincerely – there is not a doubt in my mind that the people of Ch Ch. West would acknowledge that Maria Agard will be the better candidate to champion the people of this constituency from the horrors of the D.L.P SOUP!!!

    I’ve met DePeiza and she is a nice lady yes. Okay.

    However, I’ve lived, worked, played and other things in Christ Church West since my teenage years (no telling my age now) and hands down Dr Agard has proven (time and time again) she is a bona fide representative. Hands down.

    I’ve watched Dr Agard over the years run a branch and created initiatives for the people of Christ Church West. I’ve watch Dr Agard organise community events, make donations, sponsored events and tournaments, clean communities, employ constituents and support numerous efforts of my fellow CCW constituents.

    Beyond party politics, beyond the emotional responses and the anecdotal ‘arguments’ I challenge anyone to walk into any community or area in CCW, speak to the pastor at the Churches, speak to the constituents and ask them about Dr Agard and sit back. Sit back and watch the genuine positive response of people who have met a kind, hardworking, caring, thoughtful, charismatic lady with a big heart for this constituency. I challenge you to do this and then ask your self who has the edge.

    The following makes for interesting political discourse:

    What do Christ Church West and St James North have in common?

    1. Both are BLP strongholds

    2. In both constituencies, the candidate which the people of the branch voted for namely Taan Abed in Christ Church West and Austin Husbands in St James North were rejected by the DLP to stand as candidates

    What role will this play in the upcoming elections?

    One thing that jumped out at me was in Senator Verla Depeiza’a bio she listed that she has held all positions in the St James North DLP executive except President. If this was the case, then why didn’t she get nominate to be the candidate in St. James North? Did not the membership of this branch have the confidence in her to capture a constituency with which she is so familiar? She would have been well placed to do so. If not, what does it say about their confidence in her as a candidate? Why was Senator harry Husbands who received 0 votes in the DLP St James North nomination against Austin Husbands given the nod to be the candidate? Why after a sorry defeat in the Christ Church West DLP nomination was she chosen as the candidate over Taan Abed? Does this have something to do with her family connections in the party by way of stalwart/elder former deputy PM Sir Phillip Greaves?? Verla’s brother Frances ran in the St Michael North constituency once held by Sir Philip Greaves at the time of a swing to the DLP and still was unable to unseat incumbent Ronald Toppin.

    So if the goodly Senator Verla Depeiza cannot secure the confidence and support of the DLP executive in St. James North and did not receive the support of the membership of the DLP Christ Church West branch, what made the General Council of the party believe that she would get the support of the electorate in Christ Church West (which is a BLP fortress – not even a stronghold) whenever PM Freundel Stuart decides to ring the bell for general elections? Will the sudden appearances on CBC/DLP TV as guest lawyer be sufficient? She was seen a couple weeks ago handing over of keys of the Urban Development Commission’s house to an affected resident in the area. A house which she was unable to find but had to call up Taan Abed to be able to locate!!!

    Lets hope for Senator Verla Depeiza’s sake that Taan Abed does not decide to run as an independent in the next general elections or worse…that he campaigns in support or canvasses for Dr Maria Agard, the BLP candidate

    The DLP really unfaired Austin Husbands in St James North though. Even pollster Peter Wickham said that he outperformed the party in the last election (2008) and was best placed to win the St James North constituency in the upcoming election whenever it was called. He too agrees that the wrong Husbands has been selected as the DLP candidate. Given that Austin Husbands is hurting over his restaurant and wine bar business which is struggling with the demise of Almond Beach Village and also his water sports business , it is left to see in what way he will respond whenever the general elections are announced.

    How will the DLP supporters in these two traditional BLP fortress constituencies respond to these developments at a time when the national swing seems to be against the ruling DLP.

    The members of the branch voted for him but he was deselected by the party executive in favour of Verla Depeiza. It is why we believe he resigned from the party.

    Independents sap votes from one side or he next. Any thoughts on who will be the major sapping victim? My bet is on DePeiza. I believe that BLP votes don’t usually move, and most definitely not in this election cycle.

    If that were the case, does anyone believe he actually could win as an independent? I personally don’t believe so.

    What is disappointing is the fact that Independents believe it is enough to pay the deposit and do a few spot meetings and their job is done. If Independents want to be taken seriously and shake public perception they need to do better.

    BTW agree with that Abed will cut votes from the DLP candidate which is obviously his objective.

    not only will he cut votes from the DLP but also the BLP. You have to remember alot of BLP laundry was aired out over the last 5 years and the BLP has never done jack for the people of Christ Chrust West. Roads now getting paved? Why? Because election get call?

    I would vote for Taan just to stick it to both parties….one mistake the DLP made was providing the illusion that your right or your vote does not count. Verla lost and like a sore loser was still given the thumbsup to run. Either that is politics where she was rigged to fail or that was spite so that Taan could not run again and remove the BLP seating into Independant.

    Taan has alot of people supporting him and he can “fit in” with big business men as well as fellas on the corner….something neither Verla nor Maria can do.

    Let’s just make a few things clear.
    1. Taan represented the area for 7 years. He didn’t just swoop in to hold a spot, he worrrrkkkeeeddd Christ Church West and I mean he worked it!

    2. People love who Taan is as a person. They know his nature of being straight edged and hard working, they love it.

    3. Taan is an indepedent candidate which removes him from the partisan two party system. He is a free thinker and has the voice of the people.

    4. Taan is the only candidate other than Mara Thompson to win by a land slide constituency level vote (86 Taan – 5 Verla). People love the man and want him to represent them.

    5. Neither Agard nor De Peiza have what it takes to listen to people of all classes and speak their language. Taan is a man that can speak to the rich and to the poor.

    6. Taan isn’t going after Christ Church West with the goal of self-glory. He doesn’t earn anything by running as an independent – he has only been giving and from his own pockets. People know that Taan’s generosity is from his own dime and they love knowing he is giving to help, not to gain a vote. Taan wants to go for Ch Ch W to actually offer representation of the people.

    7. Taan has the MOST proven track record in Ch CH W in the last 15 years. No other candidate has come close to offering a similar portfolio.

    8. As an independent Taan can back either party on policies that have the greatest benefit for the Barbados public. He isn’t forced to pick a side! The thought of someone possessing that power in Barbados politics is mind blowing

    The facts are clear people. In 4 more days you will have the right to put an X on a piece of paper for your Candidate of choice. Do the right thing and back Taan Abed for Christ Church West. The people deserve a representative and Taan deserves the chance to show us what he can do now with a little more say. Just the thought of that one variable makes me smile
