Tacuma Seen Here Accepting His Degree – Source: Justice Committee Blog
The People’s Democratic Congress (PDC) has been stunned by the reported circumstances surrounding the death of the late I’Akobi Tacuma Maloney, at Land Lock, Cove Bay, St. Lucy, on Tuesday, June 17, 2008. And, just like the thousands upon thousands of people across Barbados that have been questioning those reported circumstances in which Maloney – a former student of the Christ Church Foundation School, the Barbados Community College and the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, Trinidad – was alleged by police to have met his death, we too in PDC are questioning these same reported circumstances of his death.
Moreover, as a responsible and committed party of the masses and middle classes of people of this country that stoutly believes in the inviolable principles of freedom, democracy, social justice, transparency and accountability for Barbados, we must let our feelings on this very controversial matter be known to esp. the great many citizens of Barbados, in whatever ways possible.
So, here we go. According to the Daily Nation Newspaper, Thursday, June 19, 2008, ” (Some)officers on the scene Tuesday night said they responded to a call of a drug landing around 5.30 pm, where they observed and interviewed Tacuma…(whereupon) initial investigations reveal that Maloney suddenly ran and jumped off a cliff, landing on a ledge below. Shortly after this, he was washed off this ledge by the pounding waves, which took him out to sea” Public Relations Officer, Inspector Barry Hunte, said in a Press release.
So, just as murky and choppy as those waters are in Cove Bay St. Lucy, that was the kind of response that the PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER, Mr. Hunte, gave to the Nation Newspaper, and by extension to the public of Barbados. What an unacceptable response!! No doubt such a response has been fuelling the belief (rightly or wrongly held) of throngs of people in Barbados that I’akobi was wronged by police, and esp. given the history of allegations by many people in Barbados against many Barbadian police of extra-judicial misconduct and illtreatment. However, it must be stated by the PDC that the vast majority of officers in the Royal Barbados Police Force seem to be of good character and behaviour and esp. when conducting their duties.
Nevertheless, this said issue of the newspaper went on to further state that such allegations were NOT washing with the late Maloney’s family and the wider Rastafari community in Barbados, and how Margaret Maloney, the mother of I’Akobi, remained convinced that her son was pushed to his death, as that she knew he was afraid of heights and feared death by drowning.
What is even of greater concern to our party about the police allegations made so far of the circumstances surrounding this serious matter, is that, on the back page of yesterday’s Saturday Sun – July 5, 2008, you have the Assistant Police Commissioner (for crime), Mr. Seymour Cumberbatch, in producing more disturbing and incomplete allegations to the ones that were earlier tendered by Mr. Hunte, saying how on the night in question police saw that Maloney was acting strangely when approached by lawmen who were responding to a report of a drug landing in the same area.
Said Mr. Cumberbatch, “Police came upon Maloney while responding to a drug landing in the same area. HE WAS DRESSED IN A SHORT PANTS ONLY AND WAS PACING UP AND DOWN ON THE RIDGE OVERLOOKING THE NEARBY CLIFF, WHICH CAUSED POLICE TO APPROACH HIM. WHEN HE WAS APPROACHED BY OFFICERS, HE RESPONDED THAT HE WAS UNDER PRESSURE”. This said issue of the Saturday Sun, goes on further to report the crime chief as saying that MALONEY, AT THE REQUEST OF THE POLICE, DID PUT BACK ON HIS CLOTHING AND PLACED HIS HAVERSACK ON HIS BACK AND STARTED TO ACCOMPANY OFFICERS AWAY FROM THE CLIFF”. It also did report him as saying that ” IT WAS DURING THIS PERIOD THAT THE YOUNG MAN DARTED AWAY AND JUMPED OVER THE CLIFF”. The crime chief so claimed THAT INVESTIGATIONS REVEALED THAT MALONEY WAS GOING THROUGH A STATE OF DEPRESSION WHEN HE REPORTEDLY RAN AND JUMPED OFF THE CLIFF, AND THAT POLICE DISCOVERED THAT A NOTE WAS ENTERED INTO HIS PERSONAL DIARY WHICH SUGGESTED THAT HE WAS CONTEMPLATING SUICIDE.
Verily, Mr. Cumberbatch, and we surely dont know that this is the view of most of the officers close to the case, has indeeed gone on to conclude that , “THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO EVIDENCE TO SUGGEST ANY FOUL PLAY IN THE DEATH OF I’AKOBI TACUMA MALONEY”.
Well, we have four (4) questions, for now, for the Royal Barbados Police Force on this very troubling affair:
- Were the attending officers all aware of who the late Mr. Maloney was at the time of interviewing him at Cove Bay?
- Since Mr. Cumberbatch is seeking to claim the possibility of suicide – why is it that his death happened ONLY after he made contact with those particular officers then, and AT NO TIME BEFORE?
- Why is it that those officers simply did NOT leave Mr. Maloney to himself seeing that you were on a drug busting mission?
- And, why is it that the logic and imagery of the language that Mr. Hunte and Mr. Cumberbatch have both used in describing the circumstances surrounding his death, do NOT suggest that those officers who were there were NOT AT ALL concerned about his running off a cliff and into dangerous waters, and thus being in serious danger, and suggesting that there was a life that could have possibly been lost and to respond accordingly ( with despatch)?
Certainly, judging by the fact that there are many more questions and issues related to this affair that can be brought to light we must state that it is our intention to go in pursuit of as many of them so that the public of Barbados will be fully apprised of what happened at Cove Bay, and until such a time that there is a satisfactory outcome to this very serious matter. Finally, we in PDC ask that NOT ONLY must there be a Coroner’s Inquest into the circumstances of this death as soon as possible , BUT that ALSO the Attorney General allow his department to carry out their own fair and impartial investigations into this grievous affair.
Members of the BU family can log in here to participate in a petition which has been launched by his Brethren

LOGICAL // July 6, 2008 at 1:46 PM
With respect to
Well, we have four (4) questions, for now, for the Royal Barbados Police Force on this very troubling affair:
Your questions don’t seem logical to me? HERE ARE SOME QUESTIONS IN RESPONSE TO YOUR QUESTIONS – IN CAPS
YOU: Were the attending officers all aware of who the late Mr. Maloney was at the time of interviewing him at Cove Bay?
ME: WHY SHOULD THE ATTENDING OFFICERS KNOW WHO MALONEY WAS? WHAT DIFFERENCE WOULD THAT MAKE?
Since Mr. Cumberbatch is seeking to claim the possibility of suicide – why is it that his death happened ONLY after he made contact with those particular officers then, and AT NO TIME BEFORE?
SO BECAUSE THE MAN’s DEATH OCCURRED AFTER HE MADE CONTACT WITH THE POLICE MEAN THAT IT WAS NOT SUICIDE?
Why is it that those officers simply did NOT leave Mr. Maloney to himself seeing that you were on a drug busting mission?
WHY WAS MR MALONEY AT THE SCENE OF A DRUG BUST?
And, why is it that the logic and imagery of the language that Mr.
WHY DO YOU EXPECT THE POLICE TO BE MORE LOGICAL: OR RATIONAL THAN YOU ARE?
Wishing In Vain // July 6, 2008 at 1:55 PM
David,
I would not be quick to jump onto a band wagon based on these feelings and wishes by this group of persons.
This has many legal channels to follow and to be airing it at this time may not be the best of moves.
I find that this case is being made to appear in one light when as it seems despite the fact that Brethen hate the thought of suicide that the evidence has a harsh leaning towards suicide being the cause of his death, they may not like it but if that is the case so be it.
I would not be too quick to take sides on this one.
David // July 6, 2008 at 2:03 PM
WIV this matter has been highlighted in the Nation four times that we can recall, unprecedented if we must say so. Former government Minister has come out publicly and called for a public inquiry and he pull no punches when he delivered the eulogy. We are simply highlighting what mainstream press is currently guilty of doing.
We are not taking sides!
JC // July 6, 2008 at 2:14 PM
Many persons on the block were discussing this issue. they final analysis was
HE IS NOT THE FIRST TO MURDERED NEITHER WILL HE BE THE LAST!
I must tell you I hated this answer and tried my best to tel lthem that we as a society need to make persons accuntable for their actions. Although I made a valiant effort they just kept on saying he isnt the first and he wont be the last. I wish he was the last fallen brother………
Anonymous // July 6, 2008 at 3:31 PM
I don’t know where WIV going with that one ,but everything points to suspicious police behaviour to this rising black young man from a poor black family.
How come no white people children on drugs get arrested regularly nor jump off cliffs when being questioned by police?
He is a rasta o.k.,so he could not be worth much in the eys of the police and of most people in this society.
I support the family for an independent inquiry.
Wishing In Vain // July 6, 2008 at 3:50 PM
A loss of life by any colour or by any creed is a sad thing but let the police do their job.
Why would it be unbelieveable that suicide could be the cause or the source of this young persons death, none of us know the facts pertaining to his state of mind or what he was doing there in the first place.
I would suggest that we have an excellent police force unlike many other places and we ought not to be propagating airy fairy ideas until more in depth investigation is completed, that is all that I am suggesting.
And I do not subscribe to the above comments that because he was a rasta he was not worth much in eyes of the police and society.
David // July 6, 2008 at 3:56 PM
Many of our policemen are related to Rastas so why would they profile Rastas in a negative light? This is a small society. If we feel that this matter should be investigated let us say so but second guessing the police is not be the way to go.
Wishing In Vain // July 6, 2008 at 4:08 PM
Thank you David my feelings exactly.
Technician // July 6, 2008 at 4:43 PM
David ….. remember a small society breeds small minds also.
Rastas are profiled here in a negative light most of the times and mostly so by the Police.
I am not saying that this is a case of Police brutality but I cannot sit here and agree that Rastas are not looked at in the negative by society on the whole and by extension the RBPF.
JC // July 6, 2008 at 4:44 PM
Have Wishing in vain or David for that matter seen when police enter your house? (and this is when people are looking and I am talking about police who have sons and daughters who are related to persons from another block…….)
Let me give you all a classic. One of my friends was working and decided he would go and chill out a little distance from where all the other workers were when lo and behold some police came and asked him who he was etc.
Although he explained to them that he was with the crew over the hill they still proceeded to punk him up.
He had to look at them and say that he was a task force man’s son. When they looked at him they knew he wasnt lying and let him go so your point………
I just would like the truth even if it is suicide (lol yeah right)
Peace // July 6, 2008 at 4:45 PM
We need to stop and think. From the day Iakobi was murdered the police has acted suspiciously. They have consistenly given his family the run around, wrong information etc. Also if the police has nothing to hide why not give the woman the opportunity to do her independant autopsy. Why would a person who had positive thoughts for himself and his family for the future the night before kill himself the next day.
The police again have acted suspiciously from the begining with lies and wrong information. If the police had nothing to hide then the mother should have been given the opportunity to have the autopsy done. It just goes to show the Royal Barbados Police Force has something to hide. Some members of Barbados society still have a negative attitude towards Rastafari it is not unbelievable even though some of them are related to them.
Iakobi was a respectable, well mannered, humble young man. His mother did a great job in raising him and his brother and my heart goes out to his family.
I strongly believe that the police are hiding something without a doubt. The truth must be told.
The police at times are legal criminals and have done folly sad to say the system is hard to fight.

David, it seems that there are two JUSTICES on this blog. I have been JUSTICE since inception and I must let you know that I don’t agree with the views of the other JUSTICE above.

I was a bit confuse with the statements since I know the ‘real’ Justice always use legal jargon with tempered language, not the reckless statement used by the imposture.

How come no white people children on drugs get arrested regularly nor jump off cliffs when being questioned by police? ASKS ANONYMOUS.
Can someone please tell me why the black and white issue has to be dragged into almost every situation in Barbados?
A few days ago it was about Chris Mchale not being handcuffed. I don’t personally know the man and have no allegiances to him but this “attacking” of people because their skin is light is racism.
What about Hillary Beckles son not being convicted of murder? And many other such incidents, do people complain about that? No.
Hello……….I think that the inequities these people are referring to are more weighted to the social standing/money of a person than their colour.
This use of colour in Barbados as a whipping boy against people of fairer pigmentation is really becoming very evident.

I have a question. Did Tacuma live near Cove Bay, St. Lucy and if not what was he doing there? This question hides no bias or draws no conclusions….it is merely a question.

Re anonymous and why was Tacuma in Cove Bay everyone has a right to go “wherever” they want to go in Barbados.
Again people the police has given Tacuma’s family wrong information and the run around from the time this murder happened.
Also again why was the mother denied the opportunity to have an independent autopsy done? ? ? ? ? ? ?
I mean the woman have doubts to prove her wrong grant her the request.

Are you folks being deliberately obtuse or have you chosen to inject bias in my question that was never intended. Obviously, anyone has the right to go wherever they please. I asked a legitimate question that may have some bearing on what happened to Tacuma.
Don’t think for one minute that I am not aware that the RBPF is capable of anything and that would include pushing a man off a cliff and a subsequent cover-up.
The circumstances related (whether true or not) are that the police were conducting a drug bust operation of some sort. Was it mere co-incidence that Tacuma was at the location?
Some of you posters should try to maintain some objectivity when responding to legitimate questions.
Georgie Porgie // July 6, 2008 at 9:30 PM
Why would the police or any other Bajan push another of a cliff at Cove’s Bay or elsewhere?
I always find these accusations against the police funny.
I well remember the incident in 1990 when that little silly runt who calls himself a lawyer and walks around Bridgetown in a three piece suit once got his client to say in a murder case that the police and the doctor to whom he was taken went upstairs in the doctors house to drink rum.
Further investigation revealed that it was well known that neither the doctor nor the policeman in question drink rum or other ethanolic beverages.
John // July 6, 2008 at 9:42 PM
I recall an incident where a man intended to commit a murder and suicide because of his relationship with a woman.
The woman got away but the man drowned himself and washed up on the beach sometime hence.
It occurred at Cattlewash some years ago, late at night.
These things do happen in Barbados.
I have no idea what the deceased was doing down at Cove Bay.
People do walk about at night and think through problems and are as right as rain the next day.
Some peope go in for night fishing and you can find them in the most unusual places when dawn comes.
I find it difficult to come to any definitive position on this one.
The deceased in my book was entitled to be where he was for his own reasons just as the police were entitled to be there also for their own reasons.
It is usually the family that buries their dead so I can’t understand how the police could have forced a burial if the family wanted an autopsy.
Like so many other deaths, this one needs to be thoroughly investigated and explained.
Tony Hall // July 6, 2008 at 11:09 PM
I find that there is a lot of anti-police sentiment out there. I think that persons should wait until the coroner’s inquest is completed instead of ranting off via hearsay. I am not saying the police is perfect but neither was the deceased. He seemed to have been having some personal problems which his family was not aware of and nobody knows what was his state of mind that evening. Again I suggest we wait.
Pat // July 6, 2008 at 11:41 PM
Anonymous;
The young deceased worked at the Arawak Cement Plant. He had just handed in his resignation and decided to go for a stroll by the beach. I understand he phoned his mother and told her he was heading to the Cove.
Someone who wants to commit suicide would not got to work, would not formally resign, they would be so depressed, those niceties would not be foremost in their minds. He was a new graduate and was probably offered a new job somewhere else.
It is my opinion, that the police was on a stakeout and seeing this young man with dreads assumed he was a rasta and a drug dealer, if not addict and roughed him up and in the process either shoved him or in some fashion itimidated him to the point he slipped over the cliff. A suicide does not jump backwards. The damage was to the back of the lads head.
bussa // July 7, 2008 at 4:11 AM
There are a number of unanswered questions as it relates to police procedure in this matter first when the body was recovered who identified the body at the scene secondly the diary that was the property of the deceased that contained the notes of depression and suicide was this ever shown to the mother who was asking for answers about the death of her son . What was reported in the second press release by AC Cumberbatch SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE IN THE FIRST PRESS RELEASE rather than wait for the whole issue to become a national one as of right now the RBPF looks rather unprofessional . The diary is a very crucial piece of evidence in this matter when the man jumped did he jump with his haversack , did its contents get wet based on what Cumberbatch said it looks like the diary did not get wet and it should be shown to the mother who should know her son’s handwriting.
me // July 7, 2008 at 5:43 AM
The Police are not perfect BUT they have a very difficult job to do. Some question?
1. What is the association of Rastafari aaand Marijauna ( an illegal drug)?
2. Did this rastafari yute smoke pot?
3.What was his mental state, why did he resign , why did he go out there alone? Why would he be near enough to the cliff where he could be pushed or fall???
4. Why would the police push him? Was there a struggle? did he disrespect the police?
5. because Rastafiri are ‘profiled’does that mean that there is no truth to the profiling?
6.What does black and white have to do with it?
7. Do people on here know what ANARCHY is/ Is that what we want?
I think that in TODAYS BARBADOS it is far easier to bad talk the police and to be antiestablishment BUT I am worried about the alternative. I think the police has to do better in terms of public relations because in todays society all the bad boys are nice kool guys who would not hurt a fly while the police are ‘criminals.’
I will take the police side on this one unless more truth and facts are forthcoming that would make me think otherwise.
David // July 7, 2008 at 5:49 AM
@me
The BU household wished to be associated with your last comment. We have highlighted this story because citizens are asking questions. Remember that prominent Barbadians have done so and the Nation has highlighted this story several times.
However while we have the right as citizens to ask questions we must do it in a way that does not vilify the police. We will not stand for it!
Peace // July 7, 2008 at 7:15 AM
To answer some questions the mother did not identify the body on the scene and was told that the body was not recovered and had to make a scene to see her son’s body after going to the scene of the accident to to find out that the body was indeed recovered and at the Forensic Lab. ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?
The mother has not seen the diary. Tacuma was not disrespectful to the police according to what one officer told the mother it was the opposite.
I wish that the truth will be told.

I do not understand when you talk about too many sources .All that has been said has come from the mother ,the pro of the RBPF, and the AC in charge of crime of the RBPF.
Technician // July 7, 2008 at 9:17 AM
I am sorry to say but David and Me are acting like this is the first time something like this happened here.
How long must this nonsense by the RBPF go on before something is done about it?
Let me ask David ,the BU household and ME….have you ever had any dealings with the police?
If you had , you would be singing a different tune.Have you ever listened to a press release from them? It is true that they are the law and we have to abide, what we dont have to do is stand for this pathetic display from people who are arrogant and power hungry.
It is these bad habits that raises the doubts in our minds as to whether or not they are being truthful.
One would think that the stigma attached to them, would necessitate a more professional and transparent approach when dealing with sensitive matters. The run around given to the deceased mother, the ignorance at the morgue, the different versions given by the officers at the scene (and this was reported, not just hearsay) are enough to raise doubts in the minds of anyone. With all the previous cases of Police brutality, is it any wonder that ordinary people have their doubts and distrust of the RBPF?
So please David and Me…dont expect the impossible because we dont live in a perfect world ok?
bussa // July 7, 2008 at 9:43 AM

You just had to see him to tell….. he was destined for greater things than this, it hurts to see his name sullied in this fashion….
I have NO doubt that he DID NOT jump off the cliff, i also believe wat happened was an accedent. It would not have hurt thr RBPF to come out and say they made a mistake…….
I have had dealings with the RBPF my father is in it, I have also been witniss and have knowledge to the garbage they do some times, they can be an upstanding institution and they do do their jobs, but sometimes they do it wrong, there is nothing wrong with that, to ere is human, just come outs and say so.
But i do hold sentiment that they are the most pigheaded group in Barbados and they stick to each other like glue, believe me the truth to this will never come out sad to say, it never has in any othe situation. but the family and friends have my support in their investigation and quest for truth.

The Coroner works for who?
John // July 7, 2008 at 11:57 AM
Recently, the coroner cleared a backlog of cases stretching back to the early 1980’s.
I went to one inquest as a friend of one of the witnesses giving evidence and also to watch the process work.
I also have a newspaper report I kept on one of the cases in the backlog in which a man died in 1982. The inquest was held in 2004!!! By then, all the witnesses had died.
There has been a conscious effort to get this system of governance working effectively and it needs to be continued.
The coroner needs to work promptly and reach a decision based on the facts presented, …. even if the decision is to say no clear decision can be reached.
Every human who dies unnaturally is owed that duty and respect.
It also reassures we who are left that we won’t just disappear unnaturally and without a trace with no account being taken of our deaths.
I would imagine that the Coroner is paid out of the public purse and so works for us plebians.

Where are the alledged drugs that the police where looking for? Did they disappear over the cliff with Tacuma? How is it that he ran from them and no one was able to catch him? How was it that someone still healing from a slip disc, was able to elude the police so quickly? This is awful for Barbados. Obviously, they just saw him as just another rasta and not knowing his history assumed that they could kill him, offer little and trivial explanation and that would have been that. Why would a young man of high intelligence choose to run from police when he had enough insight to know that if he resisted, it would have counted against him? Is it that he met his death because he saw something he shouldn’t have? I feel so hurt with the police force, where this is concern. I witnessed only last week, a police officer charging a mini bus driver for driving without a seat belt. The driver insisted that his seat belt was on but the officer did not care. The fact was, the driver was wearing his seat belt but he had a previous run in with the same policeman and the policeman decided to unfair him that morning without care for the passengers who witnessedhe incident. He even threatened to arrest them for telling him (after they were outside the van and after he had written up the driver) that what he did was wrong. Who can we turn to for protection, if these officers are not trained to be honest?

Yes, we are educated people and maybe I misconstrued your sentiments – I do apologise but let us not treat this incident as infinitesimal and what the police reported as factual. I am sure it’s not.

A man is just a man. They should have looked at I’Akobi and his family as human beings and treat them with due respect and the way that they will treat anyone else the way that they will like for they own children to be treated.
Again beside him being intelligent Tacuma was a good decent person. I knew without a doubt that he was someone who was going to make a great contribution to Barbados and will go as far to say the world.
Will this wrong go unpunished? ? ? Will the truth ever be told? ? ?
Again its the lies and the inconsistencies that the police came with from the beginning besides knowing Tacuma that I do not believe that Tacuma jumped to his death.
Like someone mentioned earlier I don’t know if it was that scare tactics were being used and caused Tacuma’s death but the truth should be told.
In life we don’t know if we will have children and if our children will embrace Rastafari and be subject to this discrimination. Today for me tomorrow for you the society should speak out against this wrong so that it “wouldn’t” happen again.
Tacuma was a good decent individual for whom I had nuff respect.

It Hurts and Tecnician,
You can talk all you want. Just wait until all the facts are out and then you can criticise and castigate the Police if the facts prove them to be wrong.
John // July 8, 2008 at 10:09 AM
The important thing now is to watch due process unfold and help it if and when it gets stuck.
Due process appears to be a Police investigation and a Coroner’s inquest into the death.
I am not sure if one depends on the other or if the two are independent.
We need a projected completion date on the investigation and a date for the inquest.
The inquest I believe is normally open to the public.
With feeling as high as it appears to be, I would expect the authorities will have to make provision for attendance at the inquest by many members of the public.
Technician // July 8, 2008 at 10:19 AM
Tony ….you poor soul….I didnt need this tragedy to ,as you put it, criticise and castigate the police.
I have my own personal experiences to relate to.
BTW……wouldn’t the police version be considered facts?
After all, it is the police report(filled with discrepancies and contradictions), to the parent that has started this whole discussion.
Are you now saying that the report was not factual….if ….as you have implied, the facts are still to come out?
John // July 8, 2008 at 10:57 AM
Was the unnatural death a result of suicide … or not?
That is a matter for the inquest to determine, not the Police.
If suicide is ruled out, the Police will have some explaining to do.
If it is found to be the cause, the Police are in the clear although one could argue they could have done more to prevent it.
That is the benefit of not being there and not witnessing firsthand what happened.
There is also the “Expect more, get more” position.
It is an indictment on how far we have allowed our expectations to drop that we instinctively distrust the Police.
Remember, ….” To serve and protect”.
That is the reason the Police are there and that is the standard to which they must be held accountable, both by us and by themselves.

This is how the police investigation in going to go each police officer in the scene is going to be asked to write a statement as to what transpired that evening . They are going to get to get together and discuss what to put on paper ,the autopsy has already revealed the cause of death so that is not going to change I would like TONY HALL to enlighten me on the other “facts” that are going to come out of the investigation is he hoping that the deceased will rise from the grave and give his side of the story i would love that to happen.

well i do not instinctly distrust the police. I give no reason to bother me. I show them utmost respect even if they stop me for speeding or shout at me.
because I recognise that they have a difficult job to do and in many cases are damned if they do and damned if they dont!
I asked about this young mans pot habit …no one has answered yet.
Marijauna has serious psycholigcal effects that are often poopooed by users until they become a paro or whatever?
And BTW many people who commit suicide hIDE they feelings very well before the act. How many times have I said ”
…I didnt even know that they were depressed? They could have called me etc…. ”
My only beef wid the police on this case is that they have lost the public relations battle and they need to recognise that they have to be more timely in coming forth to the public!

YEAH but the police can get way wid anything
weren’t the police photographed beating a photographer by qeh or seen by passerbys beating innocent people coming from cricket
some police men have a slave/punishment/beat-up/hate black people mentality
i witnessed something recently that has changed my mind about the police and fairness.
in broad daylight in front of many persons at a particular place , a number of policemen took hi-handed, unnecessary, unprovoked and unwarranted physical action against a citizen of barbados that shock those who were around
if this is how the police is prepared to operate, sooner or later some body is going to retaliate and just like we have adopted jamaican culture in other areas , the same will be true in this particular matter.
a word to the wise is enough and enough is sufficient

Why Could the mother not be present at the autopsy????? After refusing her at first they told her to come at 10 o’ clock and when she arrived they said it was already completed!!!!!! WHAT’s UP WITH THAT?
IF it was suicide it’s an odd one fa sure! To jump off a ledge and land on another……but luckily be swept away by the ocean,to complete the “suicide”.
Lastly, he was supposed to meet his mum right after chilling at Cove Bay. WE know he wasn’t going on the bus wid a bunch o drugs. Do smugglers do that after a drug landing?
NOT TO MENTION NO ONE HAS SEEN A BOAT OR SOME DRUGS TO THIS DAY!! I guess we are to forget about the drug part and concentrate on depression because there was no evidence of smuggling other than a “locks man” was chilling at a deserted beach. THAT MEANS DRUGS ARE COMMING !!!! HAVE MERCY!
Respect to all upright persons in this world wether they have a pants with a stripe at the side or not! We are all one in the sight of God.
IF there was no foul play, why the cover up? Why the changing stories? Why the inconsistencies? IF it was not a crime scene and it was a suicide why hold on to evidence for so long?
All police are not bad!!!!!! BUT GUESS WHAT? SOME DOES DO ALOTTA !@#!@#! and we allow it ….just like da slave master and his house slaves that enjoy beating on us and telling on us whenever we try to be free. The Rasta man is like the “black” black man. It’s like the rasta man is guilty according to the system in this time, but it’s the rastaman that’s really fighting for simple freedoms in this time! Unconsious persons who don’t love themselves will keep following what the official statements say.
REMEMBER IT WAS OFFICIAL FOR US TO BE SLAVES and illegal for us to escape!! These rules were enforced by some of our own people who were given some special treatment and rank. Sounds like some people i know in this time…..

IN RESPONSE TO THE PERSON SPEEKING ON WEED POSSIBLY SENDING YOU MAD!
I thought so too!!! Until I met and hung around people who smoke it. Most if not all my presumptions were absolutely wrong concerning weed. WE are ignorant in B’dos and alot of the world where many things are concerned including some “drugs”. WE must remember who set up the system! WE must remember where it came from and what it was to achieve. IF weed may do anything that will help to destroy the system that is set up,then obviously those that set it up would try to destroy weed first. The best thing to do is always poison peoples mind concerning a subject through the media that is available. Like the whole 911 thing. WE believe everything we see on tv is gospel. I remember when living abroad ,certain individuals at a reknowned university telling me they learnt that bajan men are homophobic because of slavery!!! Bare in mind this is what they were being taught in class as the official reason. They argued with me “a bajan” about the true reason because they had the official position!
I have never met someone that smoked weed and went mad!!!!! Everyone i ever heard about that went mad from doing such,on further investigation, I always discovered that they were mixing crack or sipping “joy juice” ( known as datura) when they lost it. So that is a rumour spread in b’dos for years with out any evidence! I used to be the parrot repeating it too till I learnt better. You would be suprised at how many persons in certain areas of society have been known to partake of the sacrament behind close doors. OH yea! Why is everyone in Amsterdam sane? Ain’t that ‘weed heaven’ or something ?
Check the effects of coffee, alcohol, cigarettes ,tylenol or any drug compared to marijuana on any unbiased website. You’ll be surprised at how dangerous the LEGAL substances are in comparison. All of them if overdosed resulted in heart failure cept one! Guess which one…..
Cigarettes is listed as more addictive than cocaine!!! WE know about alcohol and driving….. ever heard of a smoking and driving death ?
For some reason though… the system says weed is Wicked!!!! Not stuff that will dull your senses, change behavioural patterns, result in violence, battery on women, liver damage……………………………………………………….

Every state that has a police force is a police state.
The problem arises when people are denied the right to stand up for democracy and so make the state also democratic.
Sometimes the denial of that right is of our own making because we want to shout and holler and won’t take the time or make the effort to make the systems which ensure democracy work for us.
An unnatural death has occurred.
That is a fact.
We can’t get him back from the dead. He is gone.
What are the systems that need to work to make sure that we are satisfied that the deceased is put fairly and squarely to rest?
What do we have to do to be satisfied that those systems will work for us if our turn comes?
We are not going to get that to happen by simply shouting and hollering.
What is it that we really want?
Sometimes all we have to do is ask!!
Technician // July 9, 2008 at 1:13 PM

Let us for a moment think of this in terms of an unnatural death which needs to be investigated and an inquest held.
Let us forget, for the moment, about the things that make us vex about this particular case and think about others.
Very shortly we will see the first anniversary of the unnatural deaths of more than 30 people on their way down Horse Hill to enjoy a day of fun and frolic at the East Coast.
Have inquests into these deaths been held?
What is the position with Insurance for those who are injured and the families of those who died?
What is listed as the official cause of the accident?
I have racked my brain but I cannot recall if any such inquests were held and what were the findings.
Maybe all is in order and I just missed it.
Here is a link to jog the memory.
http://barbadosfreepress.wordpress.com/2007/07/31/barbados-bus-tragedy-bajans-from-around-the-world-look-to-home/
… and if my memory serves me right, there was also an accident shortly after, down St. Peter, where four people died.
Are the Police to blame?
Who is the Coroner?
When will these inquests be held? ….. or rather, have they been held?
Pele Parris, Shane Hawkesworth etc. etc. are all symptopms of a system which does not appear to work.
It is easy to blame the Police, but not only are the authorities responsible, we are too for not expecting more.
Part of the blame we want to put on the Police belongs with each of us.
We really don’t care about peoples’ lives, only our own.
We expect nothing when the tragedy occurs in another’s family and then are surprised when tragedy strikes in ours that there is no system to which we can turn.
There are reasons behind being your brother’s keeper which supercede the simple feel good look good ones.
We are a part of the system that ensures proper procedures are followed for each death, every time.
Technician, I don’t think we have been asking the right questions of the right people!!
It is time we grew up and accepted the responsibility of being a citizen of Barbados.
Technician // July 9, 2008 at 10:38 PM
I agree with some of what you say John but what I was really alluding to were incidents that came as a direct result of Police involvement, where the Police took a life in questionable circumstances. Before I get crucified, let me throw out the Pele incident.
What concerns me is the attitude of the Police when ever an incident like this occurs.
Who can we turn to in these instances for accountability….The Police…the coroner……inquiries?
These are not recent episodes. You would think by now things would be done different.
Tell me John….what are the right questions and who are the right people.

@ John I agree with u for the most part but 300 years of mental slavery isnt so easily wiped away for how can u be ur brother’s keeper an u dont truly love yourself??? As for the system all u’ll ever get is the run around unless u can see the bigger picture my friend, thats why some many people are still stuck in the “matrix” of life, its time to think outside the box…no ya cant blame the police for everything wrong that happens (well only 90% :P) but the people who are doing the cover up belong to the same organization study it!! So here it is we have an almost totally corrupt system yet the most people will ever do about it is talk, now how do u expect things to change? Last time we went about just talking they gave us the run around till they took the chains off or hands an feet an put it around our minds…my 2 cents worth… lata
J // July 9, 2008 at 11:28 PM
Dear Truth Seeker:
Many people have idiosyncratic reactions to various drugs and substances. So even though weed may not have harmed you and your friends that does not mean that it has never harmed anybody.
For instance if I take a standard dose of the common over the counter medicine pseudoephenedrine I will start seeing things that are not there and neither me or any family members have ANY history of mental illness, but this drug induces psychiatric symptoms in me. And I have know a non-blood relative who started hearing voices on a standard over the counter dose of his medication. The drug should perhaps be available by prescription only.
I do not doubt that herb causes an altered mental state in some people.
And we all know people who cannot drink milk or corn or eggs or tomatoes, or shell fish, or deep sea fish. I have a friend who if she eats salad that has been cut with a knife which previously cut sweet pepper will end up in th e hospital. For most of us sweet pepper is not only harmless, but actually good
So we must be careful saying “weed don’t do anybody anything”
None of this is a comment on I’Akobi. I too would like to know that an independent autopsy is done. I too am distressed to hear that his mother did not witness the autopsy, I too would like to hear the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

J believe me when I tell you I understnad where you are comming from. Please bare in mind the context in which we are speaking. WE were comparing weed “an ILLEGAL” substance with legal substances. All I Was sayign is alotta the legal substancesa are WAYYYYYYYYY more dangerous than weed when you go down the checklist. Just about everything we take has a reaction. IS the reaction negative or positive though? That’s the question. What is determined as negative by the system depends on what the system wants. So in slave days as I said ” escaping would be naughty and illegal.” Agreed? However if we search our hearts even in that time, even with our brainwashing we would still know it should’ve been legal to walk free. IF Mr. J you decide to follow what the official position is on every topic in life then you will just be a robot of the system and a puppet that will help to enforce whatever is the present belief system in place.
John made a VERY serious statement a lil earlier:
“I am not worried about marijuana sending me mad.
Life does a pretty good job.”
That’s THEE problem with almost everything. Some people can’t go to College and come back without being crazy. Some people can handle abuse…. some people can’t handle panadol…some people get all depressd on alcohol or simply become violent…wutliss… you name it.. some people become very aware of themselves when taking weed and may become paranoid with their faults and insecurities, becomming very selfconcious . Some individuals can’t take the introspection that arises as a result. You will find there is a simple rule for if something is legal or not throughout history. Check and see who stands to benefit. The man who came up with condoms definetly doesn’t want a cure for sexually transmitted diseases. lol
Anyway after digressing a bit there…. what i am saying is people harm themselves. One must know himself before doing anything. Some people shouldn’t drive a car! Trust me! WE can’t decide to ban an activity because on record someone was harmed partaking in it. People die at the beach every year. All these things are natural practices that should be free for any individual to practice as long as it doesn’t affect his/her neighbour. All I ask is that we use the same judging system for both sides of any argument and try our best to erase our preconceived ideas and let’s see what we come up with. Alotta people fear what the truth may reveal. IF we don’t know the answer, then don’t be afraid to admit that either. WE know the honest answers deep inside, but we are afraid to give up that which we feel comfortable doing.
one love.

I do not doubt that many maybe most people can smoke weed without doing themselves significant harm, but there is a percentage of people who should never touch weed, because for those people weed is harmful.

J you are so presumptious it is amazing. So since the person that committed suicide was known to smoke weed it was the weed that killed him? Why does the issue with Mr. Beckles HAVE to be caused by weed. Did you know them personally ?
The one example you gave that you KNOW as FACT is the one where you are involved and you did what? You Giggled when you partook!!! For the last time one needs to know himself before doing anything !!! I can’t just research someone’s life and find out if they smoked weed and blame any negatives in there life on it. When Bill Clinton was getting down with Monica was it cuz he smoked weed in the past? IF your kid is acting angry and you find out he smokes…. it’s da weed? Why can’t it be a prob at school or at home? Who told you weed makes a person agressive? That is the MOST IGNORANT statement said in this whole article. Weed if anything tends to make a person sleep or chill out…. or become more empathic and objective. Hence persons may listen to music they previously wouldn’t listen too or allow a person to be open to another point of view (OPPOSITE TO WHAT THE SYSTEM WANTS much like J) However I know you have been told otherwise by persons you respect more for whatever reason. The reasons you gave so far are purely speculation and laced with prejudices you can’t even see apparently. Guy that smoked weed killed himself so it’s da weed. Suppose it was da weed dat held him back from killing himself for years? I can assume that too,but I won’t cuz I DON’T know his mind!
HOw you know it’s not that weed helps depressed people and agressive people to chill da @#$@# out?! MAybe they were trying the best medicine!
And you decide weed kill Ikael ? HE was 60 and you blame his death on weed? Why it can’t be dat rastas don’t eat enough meat? Yall always got something for de locks people man.IF anybody else dead at 60 it is ok. But IKAel had to have stress or, weed issues or some nonesense. Be honest with yaself J. You obviously have a bias to the system cuz you are not judging the “weed people” the same that you would others. IF a man got probs wid he gurl i done know in your books if he does smoke weed dat is de firstthing he should stop in an effort to make it work, cuz as far as you KNOW he may start giggling .
No one person is the same and no outcome will be the same. The issue is people knowing themselves as opposed to trying to know everyone elses business.

I am veryshocked and saddened to hear about my young brother, I’Akobi’s death. I knew him while we worked together during a summer stint at Arawak a few years ago. He was so pleasant and soft-spoken. and I am shocked to hear about his passing and the surrounding cirumstances. I can only say that I myself, as a young, recent graduate from University, can only wonder as to how he was taken so quickly from us. I however grab on to the belief that God’s plans are never to be questioned and that only God can chart the course of our lives for when we are called, there are no questions to be asked, no queries as to why, and no protests can alter our destiny. I will simply say, “Rest peacefully I’Akobi, you have done well. You will live on in our hearts!!”

I’m sorry to hear about I’Akobi’s passing. I recognise the face from at school and it was indeed a shock. A bright and well-educated youngster has died. But because he is a rastafarian, it seems as though he has been automatically labelled as a no-good drug dealer. That’s another tragedy :(
TALKAHOLIC // July 15, 2008 at 11:23 AM
J says……Yah don’t think that many years of smoking weed induced Ikael Tafari’s heart attack at the relatively early age of 60. You understand what smoke (any kind of smoke) does to the human cardio-vascular system?
Couldn’t this also be a result of stress knowing the type of man he was always busy with work….
And another thing depression may be a cause of alot of things, how could weed contribute to it?If a person is depressed they are at thier lowest point….nobody can talk you out of depression that easily
U just talking a roll of shite…..and majority of the young men that committed suicide lately was because of their love life and weed was not a contribution to it….
I just want to know how smoking weed makes a person depressed and I waiting on an answer.
Georgie Porgie // July 15, 2008 at 11:32 AM
Many drugs which folk take for their supposed stimulant qualities are actually depressants.
Here is a simple and well used example, that has been scientifically proven.
If you take alcohol at bed time in your bed you will most likely go to sleep.
If you take alcohol in a rum shop where there is heated conversation or say at a football match in Europe where that type of crowd is known to do nonsense, you are more likely to behave like they do- with aggression.
TALKAHOLIC // July 15, 2008 at 2:38 PM
I understand ur point Georgie Porgie…..u hit the nail on the head….that is exactly my point the surroundings was the influence and not the substance by itself….
TRUTH SEEKER // July 16, 2008 at 6:55 AM
J certainly is not going to ban cars even though their fumes are way more toxic than weed! Why? Because it’s legal. Based on J’s own point he shouldn’t be driving. Even though on every cigarette box it basically says “this crap you are about to smoke will probably kill u” I am sure J has no prob with them either. Not to mention just about every commercial on tv selling a drug has in the fine print : may cause vomitting, nausea, liver damage and possible heart failure just to mention a few. I am sure J approves those drugs because those drugs were approved by his mental masters “those who engineered this whole system”. Now Dr. Sebi and many others are showing us that half of these medicines they give us actually harm persons of African origin. Would J believe that? Probably not…. because we all know we shouldn’t take doctors of any persuasion other than the WEST seriously. So our African medicine is pure rubbish to J. Learn about your ownself and stop gobbling up what they told you for so many years! Please always remember the truth will set you free.. That ‘yes sir’ mentality is what got us locked up for 500 yrs thinking it’s ok to be a slave. I KNOW J would tell da salve master on me if I tried anything out the norm like escaping. A Good little house slave that can’t see there is life beyond the plantation boundaries like the boundaries of J’s mind. There is one common factor here: FEAR ! Fear of the punishment that will come if you step outside the box of thinking you have been placed in. So ignorant people live in fear and in a box and try their best to keep others ignorant and in the same box ,because they themself don’t know the answer. Well I ain’t staying on that plantation of thought J. You stay in that box and do your best to make others stay with you. I am thankful that I can be objective and if it were something called “baloopalalala”…. I would run the same tests to see how harmful it is compared to the LEGAL shit they sell us. I remember a guy nearly died at school after getting his polio shot. I Saw that with my own two eyes. I know you are ok with that though and furthermore you will probably give your child whom you love (if you have any ) the same polio shot that will stay in his body for yrs. For the last time there was NEVER in recorded history a case where death was caused by weed use. People do die who smoke weed like people who eat food. WE don’t quickly blame everyone’s death on eating, but we will blame anything in anyone’s life on weed the first chance we get. Did he get an exhibition because he smoked weed? Did he seem so excellent in every facet of his life cuz he smoked weed? How bout being a chemical engineer because of it. Hell no right? He went nuts cuz of it! OR was depressed cuz of it. STUPES !

There is so much untruths being stated as fact about marijauna…
All drugs are poisons if used incorrectly ( in excess) including marijauna But marijuana is also smoked (unfiltered) which makes it even worse.
Like alcohol, cocaine ( not crack ), heroin , metampetamines etc weed IS MIND ALTERING for evreyone but the exact mind altering effects ARE NOT exactly the same for everyone. All these drugs will cuase dependecncy/ addiction again in varying degrees. Marijuana is addictive as is alcohol as is cocaine. Crack cocaine is highly addictive, heroin and metamphetamines are alos up there. Addictive presonalities, persons with family history of addiction, persons alerady with mental issues and persons biologiocally inclined to addiction have greater risks ( of addiction, negqtive outcomes etc) with all these drugs INCLUDING marijuana.
head and neck and lung cancer rates are higher is people that smoke pot than those who do not …
suicide, schizophrenia , psychotic ideation etc are higher in those who smoke pot than those who dont…
And finally pot is also a gateway drug that MIGHT induce users to go for the harder stuff!
TRUTH SEEKER // July 17, 2008 at 11:27 AM
“Gateway” drug. Al these terms you throw out there. Mr. Me is Another parrot I can see. Where did you get your evidence? HAve you not heard of people hallucinating on weed? Seeing green men etc? I have heard everythign you have said about the said drugs time and time again. I have heard the opposite time and time again as well from different sources. How do we know who is telling the truth? Look at the facts please in your everyday life and you will KNOW the truth. What is a gateway first of all? IS tv then a gateway to drugs? Is this web page a gateway to drugs? Everything in life is a gateway to some other shit dude! Where YOU choose to go is what matters. IS alcohol a gateway drug? Why can’t we say first you have a drink…then possibly weed…. then possibly coke? Can I not suggest that most weed smokers started with beers or wine? Can I not suggest that most people with cancer drive cars? OR east microwaved foods? I can link anything to cancer boss.
One big addiction I am seeing on this page is the addiction to the books handed down by the slave masters. Brains are still enslaved it seems. Ya may be free to walk around but not free to think for yourself. I maintain if a doctor from anywhere else other than the west tells Mr. “me”
his findings are wrong and that in practice weed is the most beneficial plant to mankind Mr. “Me” will turn a blind eye to that doctor’s points of view. GO research why it was FIRST banned boss! The FACTS! Go research where it is legal in these times and the effects of people living in those areas. Go research the medicinal practices from where you came from. The motherland where all these western doctors learnt there shit from. Do you remember how Columbus discovered the Caribbean? I learnt that at school a few years ago and we already know differently in this time. Every single drug you listed was unnatural and went through some human tampering except weed. Please go check what happens to a person who overdoses on weed or any of the substances you listed ! All the substances you listed results in death when overdosing including alcohol which is LEGAL! Oh except weed again! Overdose results in sleep.
AS u said though…reactions to anything differs according to the person and each person as i have been saying needs to know him/herself before doing anything . Before driving! Before going to university…..Know thyself! That’s how you know if you should do anything.
The fact is you shouldn’t tell any human to do anything unless it affects you. Some people can’t eat peanuts!!! Some people can’t take seafood and dies becuz of it. Don’t let these people fool you and make you think that they care for you and are helping you. If they grew all da weed BE SURE it would be legal. They make da alcohol and da cigarettes.
Last point is half the lawmakers smoke it my brother. How hypocritical is it to send people to jail and have a smoke with your buddies at the end of the day! You don’t believe they do though right? People were shocked Bill clinton smoked and he was da president. The people high up in this thing KNOW it’s ok to smoke, but $750 is alotta money the gov’t makes when dey catch a man with a $5 spliff. Dat’ how gov’t gets paid man.
Do you think alcohol should be banned? I mean we know drunk drivers have killed…..right? IF not …….do not ban anything else!
Study your source before you come regurgitating your “facts”. You seriously trust a bunch of peeps that set up a system to keep you down?

i realise “me” just dumb now. You still going back for de same frikkin sources!!!!! You don’t understand I have seen that data? Can you possibly believe that I held yoru point of view before meeting people who smoke? Can you believe that it was decriminalised in Canada in 2003 until the USA claimed Canada’s stance would mean they would restrict trade with em?
Talking bout how it would help aid terrorists. I was living there at the time so I KNOW this to be true. The decrimnalization lasted one month, due to the pressures put on canada by that wicked super power. The change of view was due to pressure from the powers that be,not due to rampant psyhcosis etc. Almost 90% of everyone in canada seemed to smoke weed. I found it hard to find someone who didn’t! Go look somewhere you haven’t looked or you will keep comming back up with the same answers. Why do they use weed to help with cancer, glucoma, atshma? Why do they have gov’t marijauana? Good lord! I am telling you try some alternative data. You know how a court of law sees both sides? Then ya weigh out the evidence with real life? You DO NOT do that for sure. You will just look for evidence that supports your point. There is evidence to support the police if you choose to go that route, but there is evidence to support tacuma. You in every single situation have chosen to go with the system. I know now you cannot see how you are the slave that enforces slavery. You are the person that champions the over seer hoping that the he keeps everyone in line. If God almighty came and told you that those people spread propaganda you would give him some more information to support your side anyhow. Have you heard any of the points laid down for the natural substance that you want to ban off the earth? I doubt it ,cuz you will probably find another website supporting your point or some other parrot, to parrot what another parrot first parroted. You just regurgitating de same info from de same source under different names.
You are bent on your point. You already KNOW you not wrong right? Well good for you. Don’t deal with any of the points for weed.
But with reasoning like this i know you can’t get much help right now:
Me says:
FYI it is difficult in some of these studies to pinpoint marijauna’s exact effect in many of these studies because alot of people who smoke weed also smoke tobaco and drink alcohol amongst other things ( why is that???? :)…..)
U feel sweet bout dat dumb ass statement?
Ok i got a dumb one:
Alot of people who live in barbados drink alcohol , smoke tobacco amongst other things (Why is that????:)….)
And as for the 80% of people you know who smoke weed that have issues…. maybe you need to hang out with people who don’t have issues. You got some too evidently.
Babylon boy. ….I so glad it ain’t plantation time. Sell out .
Swallow the whiteman’s wisdom. You know your black people dumb right? You don’t wanna EVER check african medicine. You need to start learning bout the spirit seen? Something western medicine has no clue about. You told me all da physical things weed does. Have you thought about the spiritual effects? hmmmmmmm
Science can’t measure that huh!

I hope that the weed does not have you confused because in your post of July 11th at 10 p.m. you claim that I said that I giggled when I partook of weed.
I made no such statement. Just check all my posts if you are still uncertain.
Let me clearly state that I have NEVER partaken of weed and that I intend NEVER to partake of weed.
Anyhow I finish with this argument as I perceive that you are NOT indeed a seeker of truth. Clearly you believe that you have already discovered the weed smoking truth and you are not open to other ideas.

And Truth Seeker I am not sure when and where you went to school and if your head was full of weed when the teacher was talking, but when I went to school in the 1950’s and 1960’s the very teachers NEVER taught that Columbus discovered the Caribbean. The teachers at my very ordinary rural schools taught that when Columbus came to the Caribbean that the people called the Arawaks and the Caribs were already here. Clearly if millions of people were living here then Columbus could not have discovered the place. I certainly inferred that myself. How come you did not?

I am in favour of banning cars. I rarely use the things myself. I believe that they are polluting the air, giving our children asthma and killing them. I say we should all use buses, since we do need to get from place to place. But yes I would ban private cars. I have no problem with that.
I would ban cigarettes and all kinds of tobacco. Because tobacco is BAD for the human body (and so is herb).
No I have not rejected African medicine. I learned the herbs (not herb) from my grandmother (who learned from her grandmother an African woman) and I still use them. I have often used a fever reducer that is more effective than anything in the pharmacy. It certainly works where “Western” medicine has failed. Dear Truth Seeker some of us are old and the grandmothers whom we knew and loved were the grandchildren of Africans brought to this place. Some of us have NEVER lost our Africanity.
Some of us do NOT smoke herb because HERT IS NOT AFRICAN. Herb was brought to this region (specifically to Jamaica) by the same Europeans who enslaved Africans and who brought Indian indentured servants to Jamaica after 1838. The Indians had been accustomed to self-medicating with herb and the Europeans masters encouraged its use because
they hoped that if the Indians had enough herb in their heads they would be apathetic and not mind working in near slave like conditions and permitting the Europeans to reap the fruits of their labour.
Truth Seeker, you came on this blog seeking the truth and I am therefore glad to bring the truth to you.
Herb is the drug that the Europeans hoped would permit them to exploit the Caribbean indefinitely. And Truth Seeker if you and yours do not give up herb, then the Europeans would have won.
Herb is not a liberator.

Just let me issue a disclaimer; I am NOT promoting the illicit use of marijuana. People should always exercise restraint with regards to all substances put into their bodies. I have read that someone died as a result of drinking too much water! This was in the course of some silly competition.
That said it would appear that the cannabis plant (like every other plant!) has potential uses apart from the narcotic effect. Also the use of marijuana is neither recent nor limited to a small geographic region.
Now this all very interesting but I would like bloggers to get back on track and put the pressure on the authorities to bring closure to the family of young I’Akobi Maloney. We have lost a young, bright, pleasant man whose potential was enormous. Please let us have the truth of the circumstances of his death.

I will say though. At least you admitted that based on the same principles you used to ban weed …..you would therefore have to ban alotta other stuff they have listed as legal. That is all I have been trying to tell you. ALL I have been trying to say is if we use the same rules to decide weed is bad then many other things are bad. I am not trying to promote marijuana. I am simply trying to show it is somehow demonised more than the avg substance out there. Somehow that seems ridiculous to yall. I am guessing you agree now cuz you said you would ban the cars, cigarettes etc. I have no problem with that reasoning. Why? Cuz you gave all the situations you listed the same treatment . Dear Truth Seeker:
Tell me if I lie that when I state that 180 eleven year olds entered Harrison College in September 1993 and that by September 1999 only 10 people were in the A’level history class?
Harrison College may be a good school, but Harrison College is NOT a good history school, because Harrison College has diffficulty keeping students in the history classes, because a lot of Harrison College students feel that history is old time foolishness that won’t help them to make nuff, nuff money and that an A’Level History class of 10 people at Harrison College is the norm rather than the exception. Most people who go to Harrison College “drop” history at the end of third form. Therefore most Harrison College graduates are not any more knowledgeble about history that students of other schols. In fact it may be argued that since so many Harrison College students hold history in disdain that they know rather less about history than students of other schools.
Dear Truth Seeker: I lie?

Some of us did not “drop” history at the end of third form. Some of us continued the study of history up to university and beyond. I said that marijuana was brought to the Caribbean in the post 1838 period with Indian indentured labourers who had long been used to using marijuana for self medication. Marijuana has also long been used for self medication in the Arabian peninsula, as heroin has been used in Afghanistan and Pakistan and coco in Bolivia. The “masters” in all cases tolerated the use of these substances in th hope that if people were happy once a substance was in their head then they would not be asking hard questions about thier enforced subservience.

Mr. Maloney death, has nothing to do with herb, Barbados is a herb smoking country. 70% of people living in bim smoke herb. THAT IS A FACT. So the right thing to do is to make it legal, every household should be allowed to grow their own herb, for personal use. It was found on king solomon grave, he was the wise man in his days,
can you tell me which person in st.lucy have a lookout on their property? I am the brother of the departed Tacuma, I would like to thank all that have sympathized and empathized with my family and those who do not… i pray that such a situation would not befall on your household. However as someone who is intricately involved in this matter, I must say that i do feel a sense of betrayal by those who enforce this farce called justice. The nature of the term suggests indiscretion whereby every person is entitled to the same rights. I once upheld the belief that the police play an integral role in maintaining order within our respective communities, i.e. stopping thieves, women from being raped, etc. In my mind now, I must say that this justice system which we are forced to adhere to is in no way egalitarian, we can see that a white man can have more guns that he is licensed to and be fined stiffly, but a black, bajan RASTAMAN should not have the right to relax, and enjoy the seaside within this 166 square mile territorial space. The fact being that our family has not been given multiple stories of no consistency is enough cause for suspect. Regarding the circumstances surrounding this case, there is little transparency in fact I would most appropriately describe it as translucent if not opaque. If however the case is on of suicide why was my mother denied the right to be present at her son’s autopsy? ?Why was she denied the right to view her child’s body?? Why inform the public about an autopsy and a note of suicide without notifying the FAMILY FIRST?? Why claim that there is no evidence of foul play the first day after the funeral?? Why is there scant regard and disdain by the police towards members of the poorer public?? Is there really a thing called justice in Barbados ?? What can we do as a people when there is little trust to be had in Law enforcement?? Why can a white tourist enjoy the benefits of Barbados more than a Bajan?? Why are there so many questions and so many bridled answers?? Because of this I must ask- Are the police really judge jury and executioner too?? Isn’t there some separation of roles?? There is much more to this story that can be advocated to the nation. So again I must thank those who sympathized and empathized with us, and ask that u continue to do so. and those who do not… i hope the police would not tell your family so many stories when you are looking for closure for a loss one.

If however the case is on of suicide why was my mother denied the right to be present at her son’s autopsy?
==============================
Why should your mother be present at her son’s autopsy?
Is it the norm for the public to attend autopsies in Barbados?
What difference would it make if she had attended the autopsy?
Would she be able to establish the cause of death contrary to what the coroner/pathologist did?
Are you saying that the coroner/pathologist is under the control of the police and is not entitled to his professional opinion?
Are you saying that your mother did not view her child’s body before burial?
Mandela // July 25, 2008 at 2:39 PM
good question, however, my mum had asked for an independent doctor to be there for the viewing, however, when told the operation would be conducted around 10, the procedure was started hours earlier. The police on the second day after we were informed of I’Akobi’s death had told my mum that she could not view his body as the incident caused him to succumb to severe facial damage at that his body would be available for viewing on the third day which would be Thursday. (Bare in mind) That she had not identified his body only police gave account of this, however, on going to the forensic lab the Wednesday, and vehemently asking to see my brothers body was she allowed to by the pathologist’s assistant. His body had minor facial injuries. i.e scratches and scrapes and we were able to identify the body. On the Tuesday night, the night we were informed, we were told that we would be contacted in the morning to identify the body, I must also add that since the police officers that informed us never again did call back.

Did you record the names and badge numbers of the police members who contacted you. The exact times of the calls or interactions.

I am truly sorry to disappoint you Mr. Ganong… but my second post i think touches on your concerns… however to reiterate… she was denied the right to have another doctor present when the pathologist was carrying out the autopsy prior to letting her know it was being conducted, I honestly believe that an independent medical practitioner would have been in a better position to identify inconsistencies. You had asked if it was normal to have a mother present at an autopsy, however the case is far from normal, my mom had born both of us at home without the aid of a doctor… if she wished to be present at her sons autopsy shouldn’t that be her prerogative? However i still do maintain, had the cause of death been suicide why deny a family the right to have an independent person present. As you ask of the pathologist/coroner’(s) professional opinion or they being in limbo with the police, should that not be a logical question?? Can it not be a case of profiling?? and had you to ask a person who may have been suspected of being involved with drugs and involvement with the police would his story be at poles apart from my brothers experience?? Ofcourse it would, he can tell you about it!

When you die in Barbados (unless you are a white local it seems) it becomes police business. The police doctor is called to determine if there is foul play. If there is none, the body of the deceased is taken away by the undertakers. If there is foul play or the death is deemed unnatural the body of the deceased is taken away to the public morgue at QEH to await post mortem. This is done by a Pathologist assigned for this purpose. Was this not what happened in your brother’s case?
You say your mom was “denied the right to have another doctor present when the pathologist was carrying out the autopsy.” Does the public have the RIGHT to attend post mortems? What “RIGHT” does anyone have to have another doctor present at an autopsy?
I do understand your grief and your cause for suspicion, but what are these “RIGHTS” that you are talking about? Are you saying that protocol should be set aside or abandoned at the whim of everyone that is suspicious about a death?
You say “I honestly believe that an independent medical practitioner would have been in a better position to identify inconsistencies.” Why do you think that there were inconsistencies? Are you suggesting that our pathologists will report what the police ask them to report rather than their true findings?
You say “You had asked if it was normal to have a mother present at an autopsy, however the case is far from normal, my mom had born both of us at home without the aid of a doctor… if she wished to be present at her sons autopsy shouldn’t that be her prerogative?” That sounds like a non sequitur to me sir!
Is the case abnormal because your relative died? Is their not regulations and protocols for conducting post mortems? How does this differ whether the case is one of suicide or not?
You say “had the cause of death been suicide why deny a family the right to have an independent person present.” How would this have altered the findings. Seems you don’t trust either the police or the pathologists.
I suggest that the pathologist/coroner is a professional and that he would not alter his opinion just to appease the police.
ganong // July 25, 2008 at 6:12 PM
you have not answered these questions mr mandela
What difference would it make if she had attended the autopsy?
Would she be able to establish the cause of death contrary to what the coroner/pathologist did?
Are you saying that the coroner/pathologist is under the control of the police and is not entitled to his professional opinion?
Are you saying that your mother did not view her child’s body before burial?
Mandela // July 25, 2008 at 10:24 PM
Firstly the body was never taken to the hospital… it was taken to the government’s forensic lab.
Secondly as I said before… If you were reading it would have mentioned that my mom did not identify her child’s body at the scene of the incident, although we were told that we would be contacted as soon as the body was removed from the water to identify it… we were not contacted. Instead we needed to act independently to view my brother’s body.
Thirdly, you ask me of these rights to have another pathologist present… if indeed the cause of death was suicide why not entertain a mother’s “foolish” belief that he was killed, in fact I would implore her to hire as many pathologists as possible… but I am not a professional and I guess i can not act in that capacity.
Fourthly you say that there is no abnormality… well being in the situation… the incident reported to my mom said that I’akobi had jumped without police interaction… when they had arrived on the scene the incident had already occurred. On the day after the incident had been reported, we decided to go to the Holetown police station where a station seargent had reported his sequence of events where he had a lengthly conversation with my brother and from that he had obtained that-
…he went to school at foundation
…he went to school at BCC
…was a student at U.W.I- ST. Agustine
…was a chemical engineer at Arawak
No clarify things wouldn’t this be deemed as contradictory the initial report and the events obtained at Holetown. I humbly ask that you look at the situation with a discerning eye. It is also my belief that you are against my position, however as aforementioned, I simply wish that on the occasion of death that the police give consistent statements and not cause one to question their validity… How can persons who consider themselves as beings with emotions give inconsistent statements at a time when a family is looking towards closure…. should a police law abiding force exacerbate a family’s emotional distress??? I personally think that no family irrespective of persuasion- RASTA, CHRISTIAN, MUSLIM, ATHEIST, HINDU, etc. should have to go through such emotional duress.
J // July 25, 2008 at 11:39 PM
Dear Mandela:
My most sincere condolences on the untimely death of your brother. May God comfort you. Your family must continue to press the authorities for a public inquest as to what happened to Akobi. Not only for Akobi but for all unnatural deaths for which inquests have not been conducted in the past few years. The law says that an inquest must be done. Your family and supporters must press the Attorney General, Mr. Freundel Stuart to ensure that an inquest is carried out. It is Mr. Stuart’s job to ensure that an inquest is done. Your family and supporters must make him do his job. As citizens and taxpayers you have a right to be properly served by officials who are paid out of the public purse. Please continue to press him.
Ganong you keep asking if “the public” has a right to attend autopsies. But Akobi’s mother is not “the public” She is his mother, his next of kin. She is not and cannot be a disinterested party. She is his mother and he was her son. There were not strangers.
Many people seem not to understand. But once a person dies the body “belongs” to the next of kin, not to the police, not to the pathologist, not to the government, but to the next of kin. And the next of kin has the right, yes the right to determine what happens to the body. If there is suspicion that the next of kin may have caused the death (as sometime hapens between husbands/wives and parents/infants then the government can step in and the court can order an autopsy. But clearly Akobi’s mother is NOT a suspect in causing his death.
Certainly when I have had relatives die (as it happens of advanced old age) at the QEH, at home and at nursing homes, I have always been asked for permission to perform the autopsy. And I have always refused permission. And that refusal has always been honoured and respected.
Many people seem to think that the family is there to witness the autopsy. In fact the family is there to give permission for the autopsy. Or to withold permission. In fact there are religous groups in Barbados where autopsies are contrary to their faith and routinely autopsies are not done when these people die. But it is not a religious thing. Every Barbadian has the same rights.
ganong // July 26, 2008 at 12:09 AM
As you correctly opine – Many people seem not to understand. You certainly DON’T! Stop misinforming the people.
In Barbados, anytime a person dies in abnormal circumstances an autopsy must be performed. When persons die in hospital in unusual circumstances an autopsy is performed
So your statement below is total poopycock! Total BS!
But once a person dies the body “belongs” to the next of kin, not to the police, not to the pathologist, not to the government, but to the next of kin. And the next of kin has the right, yes the right to determine what happens to the body.
This is NOT TRUE!
Autopsies are not done routinely or willy nilly. They are done under particular circumstances determined by laws and certain protocols. And the family can not decide if there will be a post mortem or not. I think you should get legal advice on the matter.
Akobi’s mother could be the Virgin Mary, she has no rights in this circumstances as you pontificate. You should get legal advice on this matter. Her son died under unusual circumstances. Post mortem is mandatory!
You pontificate again…….
If there is suspicion that the next of kin may have caused the death (as sometime happens between husbands/wives and parents/infants then the government can step in and the court can order an autopsy.
The truth of the matter is that when the police doctor or pathologist suspects that there is an abnormal or unusual death a post mortem is mandatory.
Most of your diatribe is just that emotional garbage.
Question will a post mortem viewed by mother and her designated doctor PROVE OR DISPROVE THAT THE YOUNG MAN WAS PUSHED?
WHAT WOULD BE THE FORENSIC EVIDENCE THAT WILL DISTINGUISH BETWEEN HIS JUMPING OR HIS BEING PUSHED?
HOW WOULD THE PATHOLOGICAL FINDINGS DIFFER?

Certainly mr ganong you are ignorant to the fact that the police Misinformed my family… We were given conflicting circumstances… had u to have a love one lost would you not be concerned… I will not disclose all the information concerning this case because obviously you area police representative, now you may call what me and my family are going through psychological garbage but should it affect any family member of yours, I am sure you would look for closure the same way that my family is. I am appealing to your sense of conscience. Now on that matter, if you were in our position, the police killed your son, took up his body and sent it to a government building without the mother having identified his body… would it not be plausible that there was a reason for sending his body directly to the governments forensic lab??? Would you as a family member not suspect government involvement?? anyhow I will vehemently preach that the police are liars!! Would you Mr Ganong see it any differently?
ganong // July 26, 2008 at 10:01 AM

I am indeed most certainly ignorant to the fact that the police misinformed your family and gave conflicting circumstances, and yes I would be concerned if
I was in your position.
But no…I am not a police representative.
I did not say that what you and your family are going through is psychological garbage.
I said that J was spewing emotional garbage.
Though I can understand your position, I have sought to explain some of the rules and protocols surrounding post mortems in our system.
And I have been asking questions to clarify my understanding.
For example how do you know that the police killed your brother? What is the evidence? Not the suppositions or conjecture- the evidence.
Did the police themselves take up the body and removed it to a government building. If so, which government building was it removed to, and why?
Is it the norm for persons dying in such situations to have the body identified by a relative before removal?
Is it not the norm for persons dying in such situations to have their body sent directly to the governments forensic lab?
If the normal procedures were carried out why should you and the unlerned emotional twerps on this thread suspecting government involvement?
I am not taking any sides. I am seeking to get at the facts and relate them within the ambit of normal procedure. It may well be that you are correct, but it is also true sir that I am indeed see it differently. In other words there is your view, there is procedure and there is the absolute truth.
The fact that nothing is absolutely clear makes it a mystery as BU calls it.
I am just trying to get folk to think before they judge!
David // July 26, 2008 at 11:07 AM
We have not commented about this matter with our usual norm. Issues which involve the police we prefer to thread cautiously. We read with interest the Nation article this morning. At this point the inactivity of the Police Complaints Authority is proving to be a problem. If this body was fully functioning then a transparent process to ensure proper investigation of the concerns of Tacuma’s death could have been managed better and eliminate the stress on the family and declare transparency for the public.
Here is the Nation Article:

Is it the norm for persons dying in such situations to have the body identified by a relative before removal?
Is it not the norm for persons dying in such situations to have their body sent directly to the governments forensic lab?
————————————————————-
without the next of kin identifying the body??? That certainly is not normal, especially after being told by the POLICE, that we would be called as soon as he was removed from the water!! and then later to be told that we would be able to identify it 2 days later!!!
————————————————————
How do you know that the police killed your brother? What is the evidence? Not the suppositions or conjecture- the evidence.
————————————————————-
Firstly before there is evidence, there must be reason to suspect, and most certainly there is information which supports my position, some which i care not to disclose, however you have been made aware of such- it was reported that he jump and suffered major facial damage, on identification- he had minor scratches and scrapes. And I would also implore you to visit little bay where the incident was said to have occurred, and then you, in your understanding can discern if the marks are consistent with police accounts.
Why do the initial report and the incident reported at the Holetown police station differ on the level of interaction?
Now my question to you, why would a person need to lie? My position is to gratify another party, conceal information or make a person feel badly. Now certainly we had no sense of gratitude on hearing the initial report nor the incident reported at the Holetown police station. Do you think that the second and the third possible answers can coexist?
————————————————————
Another issue is on the reasons the police gave for the reported death. Firstly the public was informed that police were called to the area for a person suspected of landing drugs.
The most recent post gave a detailed account of a person emotionally unstable and under “pressure” having note which COULD have been SUGGESTED the I’Akobi COULD HAVE BEEN CONTEMPLATING SUICIDE. Does this statement sound definite??? Indeed the amounts of coulds, suggestions, and contemplations detailed in this account is in no way definite, and after being shown the note, no wonder the police wrote in such a manner.
Doesn’t the chronological order of these events cause one to suspect??… bare in mind that the reports took a drastic change when, numerous persons started publishing character accounts of him in the papers- Ministers of Parliament, Students, and Teachers.
Although I have not disclosed all of the information. You still have not answered my question- Are the police involved in this case liars? Furthermore as you are more “Au Fait” with police protocol, what would cause a police squad to constantly change the circumstances “suicidal” person’s death?? I have tried my best to answer your questions suppose you can be of help and provide some answers for mine

You are correct in everything you say.
Your opinion is the correct one.
My questions are all foolishness, and void of all sense and truth. Ok? Bye!
Dr Boobie // July 26, 2008 at 3:54 PM
@ Ganong
I understand your questions because I used to work as medical officer to the police, and used to be called out to scenes where persons died in their homes, as well as in cases of murder, suicide, road accidents, drownings etc
When folk died in their homes, if it was known that the doctor of the deceased would sign the death certificate, the body would be handed over to the undertaker of the families choice. If the death was in anyway unnatural, or a death certificate could not be obtained a PM was mandatory and the body sent to the public mortuary.
In the cases of deaths by road accident, drowning, stabbing or gunning down or what ever the body was sent to the public mortuary. It was not mandatory that the body be viewed by relatives at the site of death. Very often, by the time I arrived and certified death, the body was soon after removed.
Sometimes, if the police had experienced delay in locating and transporting me to the scene, relatives might have already appeared at the scene, by the time I got there.
In my experience going back over 25 years it did not appear to me that it was necessary for persons dying in unnatural circumstances to have the body identified by a relative before removal. Also it was quite usual for persons dying in such situations to have their body sent directly to the governments forensic lab.
You correctly opine that in Barbados, anytime a person dies in abnormal circumstances an autopsy must be performed. When persons die in hospital in unusual circumstances an autopsy is performed- no questions asked. The relatives certainly can not, in these cases, decide if there will be a post mortem or not. Under these circumstances it is untrue to say that the next of kin has the right to determine what happens to the body. The truth, is as you point out………..i.e that when the police doctor or pathologist suspects that there is an abnormal or unusual death a post mortem is mandatory.
Whereas it seems that the young man died under most unusual circumstances, we must still abide by the laws and customary protocols. Whereas it seems that the young man died under most unusual circumstances, I totally agree with you that a post mortem viewed by mother and her designated doctor or the member for St Michael East could not prove or disprove if the lad was pushed or not. I cant see how the pathology would differ either.
Mandela and others might have every reason to have their suspicions in the light of conflicting information given them by the police as has been reported, but it is incorrect for persons to circulate the wrong ideas that some seem to have about what they think are their “rights.”
BTW I attended well over 30 PM’s at QEH……… and there were never any relatives present!

Oh! and Harrison College does quite well at History. Wether or not your figures pertaining to 1993 are true or not is beyond me. I will not comment on that point cuz unlike yall I don’t just care bout winning. About the Bob MArley toe issue. You just explained in detail what happened dude. I done saw “time will tell” etc and know about that type of cancer that exists in white people predominantly. I was arguing that unlike what “ME” said , he did not die from smoking weed or lung cancer as many people like to tell others as gospel! The cancer you spoke of developed from a football injury that went unattended !!! Stick to the point at hand and stop getting happy bout lil details that don’t matter. Trying to seem bright. Parrot!
All these digressions came about cuz of people getting happy regurgitating their personal sources. All I ask is that we apply da same judgement in any debate. Let’s be objective. Love truth!! Fair is fair.
THE FACT is The police have been inconsistent!!! TRUE!!!
Certain protocol was not met ! True!!!!
Does the individual’s character sketch match up with that of a suicidal person? NOPE!!!! That is TRUE!
IS it worthy of an investigation? TRUE!!!
Isn’t is wierd when a person has to investigate himself to see if he himself did any foul play?
TRUE
Why would da police find the police guilty? When IF they are guilty ,then they have obviously already tried to cover up stuff. Imagine 4 jeeps full of police all in on a cover up. You really wanna swallow everything the police say ?
All I am saying is one must admit it is POSSIBLY foul play.
Don’t just gobble up what the officials say when it’s the officials being accused.

TRUTH SEEKER
Can you enlighten the public concerning the type of cancer that spoke of that may develop from a football injury that went unattended?
Can you tell us which protocols were not met
Can you tell us what is the character sketch of a suicidal person?
Ought we not all to examine or investigate ourselves as taught in holy writ?
TRUTH SEEKER // July 28, 2008 at 11:28 AM
Dr. Boobie. MY point concerning the “character sketch” of a suicidal person is:
Many here have decided a person that smokes weed can easily fit the bill of suicidal person. I personally have no idea what a suicidal person does or is like. My GUESS is that one common denominator would be that the person is ‘offset’ by something enough to want to take his/her life.
I am saying that thus far we have only heard fantastic accounts of how ‘together and focused’ an individual Tacuma was. From the outside it seems like he was a person that would have alot to live for, where life was looking optimistic.
From the evidence I have been privileged to see/hear it seems like there is nothing to suggest he was suicidal except for some note the police are saying implied he MIGHT have been. This note sparked everyone’s belief in suicide it seems and the fact that he is a Ras helps us think he is even more suicidal cuz Ras smoke weed.
I will not go into all the protocols not met cuz they have been listed by many individuals on this page. Just go through and re read em. I don’t wanna be redundant.
A gentleman just before me explained the melanoma that Bob Marley had. I didn’t say melanoma develops from football injuries. Don’t be ambiguous. I said he had an injury from football. This injury went unattended! After a while it got further infected and treatment was sought out,but by then they discovered the melanoma which tends to exist in caucasians had spread further up his body. IT went as far as his brain. Again I was just trying to dispell the belief that he died from lung cancer as some people try to say. Telling others it is GOSPEL that Bob died from smoking weed. I was explaining what his cancer was NOT caused by ! As opposed to trying to show how much I know about melanoma. Someone ealier said that Ikael Tafari died from smoking weed too and said it as GOSPEL! Again all that person knew was that he smoked weed ( god knows they probably just heard that info too)IT couldn’t be stress,or his time perhaps….. nope ! IT was must be weed!!! All kinds of people die from cancer. Cancer just kills! Locks or no locks.
And lastly! Who told you I was saying not to examine ourselves?: IF I have you thinking i am saying lets not examine ourseves from anything I wrote, I apologise for my words if they appear as ambiguities in your eyes. WE MUST examine ourselves in my way of thinking…..
Is that clear? Taught in holy writ or not.
Is this the statment you are twisting to make it seem like I said we don’t need to investigate our selves personally?:
“Isn’t is wierd when a person has to investigate himself to see if he himself did any foul play?
TRUE
Why would da police find the police guilty? When IF they are guilty ,then they have obviously already tried to cover up stuff.”
If that is your attempt at misleading others, then that was really weak and it shows that you will try anything .
My friend We don’t get a jury full of the relatives of an accused do we? We always get individuals who hopefully are objective and to whom the outcome makes no difference. Can you follow that reasoning?
You seriously don’t see how an independent person who has no association with the incident could possibly come to a more unbiased conclusion??? IN ANY SITUATION? It could be an argument with you and your spouse or whatever! The police IF (note i said if!) they are GUILTY are the worst persons to lead the investigation. U don’t see how one could arrive at that conclusion
I wonder how you feel bout the fact that when the mother was allowed to right to be present for the autopsy with her lawyer ,they some how scheduled it to 2 hours earlier than her arrival. So when she arrived it was all too late! Think that was irie too Boobie?

MARCH FOR JUSTICE // July 30, 2008 at 12:10 PM
“Dissatisfied and disgruntled; disappointed and distressed, this is how we feel about all recent police reports related to the I’Akobi Tacuma Maloney case.” Such was the general sentiment of community members who raised their deep concerns once again at a Town Hall meeting on Monday night, June 28, 2008, only a couple days after police returned Tacuma’s haversack and its contents to mother, Margaret Maloney.
The community has agreed to take their demonstration to the streets. There will be an unannounced march in protest of the current investigation being conducted (by the local police) on the unusual death of Ras Tacuma. The demonstrators will seek to raise public awareness and express collective dissent with the current standard of justice being served. We demand a fair investigation and trial. We demand elimination of the scourge of Rastafari profiling, stereotyping and victimisation. We demand equal rights and justice.
On Friday, August 1, 2008 the community will canvas the public with brochures, flags, badges and other memorabilia while collecting petition signatures from diverse supporters. The time has come for real change. Click here for more details on the emancipation activities.

Well well well, i would like to think that the force had nothing to do with this mess….but i would also like to think that there is no racism in barbados, and then the moon was made of green cheese…smile…or that i could stand infront of a freight train going 300 miles and hour and survive a head on collision. I was in barbados when this happend and i currenly live in florida…i have know this brother for a little while and also i have know mandela and his mother. I also know that mental slavery is rampant and this causes black life to not be worth as much as white…so i say to all righteous thinking people, keep asking questions and keep fighting for freedom from mental slavery, because so that we can have closure to the life of this magnificant brother…and to thosse of you who do not know my group and i have opend up a center in barbados called the Iakobi resource center in tweedside road, were we will continue to elevate the name of this brother and his family, so that the rest of barbados could come to know who he IS and what he stood for. We will be having all types of classes in the building and books on afrikan history on sale and mentorship programs for young people to name a few…check us out and this is sponsord by Khemit Konnections….

Well well well…. the police have now revealed a startling piece of information in the August the 1st edition of the daily nation on page 11. The public is now being told that the police were never called to apprehend anyone, they were in fact called for a suspicious boat out at sea. This has been a month and some weeks after the incident and police for some reason have happened to neglect this in their initial report to the news as well as the family.
Subsequently I must question, why were there so many foot soldiers for a boat out sea? and secondly according to some residents why was coast guard presence recognized only for the recovery of a body?
David // August 2, 2008 at 11:57 AM
@Mandela
Can you elaborate why you think the information that you have highlighted is revealing? We are asking because it is not generally the practice of the Police to give details of an investigation. Our inquiry is not meant to in any way apportion a partisan position, we are seeking your view and that is all.
J // August 2, 2008 at 1:10 PM
If the police were called for a boat out to sea. Did the Coast Guard also respond to that call? Was the boat apprehended? Was anybody arrested? Has anybody been charged? Or were the police so distracted by dealing with a lone rastaman that a whole boat load of drugs got away?
Just a citizen/taxpayer asking.

We should let the BU family know that this blog has become viral. What that means is we have been receiving link backs to this story from all around the world. It’s the first time we have observed this with any blog posted on BU. The links are coming from French and Spanish countries as well.

@ j
Please take a look at the previous posts or recent reports given to the public through the nation newspaper. Then It will be clear that the police are remarkably inconsistent. Don’t take my views as gospel, look at the facts objectively and it will be more than evident. This is the first time any boat was mentioned in connection with the death of I’ Akobi.
Another concern of mine. In a recent article in the Nation newspaper, the police were advising persons to stop writing articles on the incident in the papers as an investigation was currently under way. Now yesterday, he police found it necessary to disassociate themselves with the death of I’Akobi, bare in mind that the so-called investigation that is SUPPOSED to be under way is not yet complete. Could it possibly be that the police are trying to sell a taintless image of themselves?
Why was it necessary to make such a statement before the investigation was over, could it possibly be that they are PREMATURELY allowing the public to know the outcome of this case.

I feel so sad for the family of Tacuma, His Mother, Can you all only imagine what she is going through, the pain, the hurt, the thought of some one murdering her first born. and no answer to her questions conserning her son death. This is so so unfair and so unjust, This brings me to the conclusion, that Bim is nolonger paridise, no one is safe there. It is nolonger a holiday resort, but a nightmare for those who live there, it is a hell hole. What happen to Tacuma, and his beloved family, can happen to anyone of us, and will happen more and more often in the future, as long as the police can getaway with it unpunish. May the mighty allah continue to bless this family, give them strength in seeking the truth. allahoakbar, allahoakbar, allahoakbar.
J // August 3, 2008 at 8:46 AM
Dear Khadija:
Barbados was never paradise. ANd none of us who live here have ever said so. Since you seem to be some kind of believer you know as well as I do that there is no earthly paradise.
Barbados is only secondarily a holiday resort. It is first of all a beloved home for those of us who live here.
In spite of what happened to I’Akobi Barbados is still a safe place most of the time for most of the people who live here or who visit here.
Barbados is NOT an unsafe, nightmarish hellhole.
Let us concentrate on bringing pressure to bear on the authorities for the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth on what happened to I’Akobi.
Let us not distract ourselves and others by making foolish statements.
khadija // August 3, 2008 at 11:09 AM
J….. The lost of a son of the soil, is a serious thing, when the authorities cannot give the family and the concern public any truthfull explanation of how this beloved brotheren came to this tragic death. Then we can only assume that this was murder. so how dare you to even suggest that we the people are making stupid statements. BARBADOS IS COMING TO ITS END. The glory days of Barbados is over, If you all have not notice, all the rich and famous who came to bim and loved it, have move to GRENADA. I am sorry you do not like what i say, but the truth is the truth.

I now have been thrown deeper into that intense feeling of despair now that Commissioner of has gone public advocating that he is now waiting on the official report as it is IN THE PROCESS OF UNDERGOING ADJUSTMENTS. I find it is rather strange that this is now being declared three months approaching the eve of the incident. However on the 6th of September the Attorney General publicized that he, the Hon. Prime minister, and the cabinet had received copies of this same report about to be handed to over to the Commissioner. I cant help but feel that somewhere there is a mockery of the justice system being perpetrated by those who are supposed the arbiters of this same system.

Another day of publicity for the I’akobi case has manifested and graciously welcome all the positive energy that has been agitating towards TRUTH and TRANSPARENCY… in yesterdays edition of the Daily Nation
A-G confirms faith in police, coroner
Date October 15, 2008
Brief
ATTORNEY-GENERAL Freundel Stuart says he will not do anything to undermine public confidence in the police force or the coroner.
He said he had “faith” in the Coroner’s Office which would begin its inquest into the death of I’Akobi Maloney on November 10.
Stuart, who was speaking during a $10 million resolution that would go towards some finishing touches for the Judicial Centre on Whitepark Road, made his position clear yesterday in the House of Assembly after the issue of the relationship between the police and the community was raised by the Member of Parliament for St Michael South-East, Hamilton Lashley.
“He [Lashley] adverted to the issue related to the unnatural death of I’Akobi Maloney. I know this issue has preoccupied public attention for sometime but I just want to make it clear that I, as Attorney-General with responsibility for the police and also for the justice system in a manner of speaking, do not intend to be coerced, or dragooned, or intimidated into getting the public of this country to lose confidence in the rectitude of the Royal Barbados Police Force or in the independence of the Office of the Coroner of Barbados,” Stuart said.
He continued: “If I am responsible for these departments it would make no sense if I lent any effort to undermine public confidence in them and therefore I perceive it my responsibility to ensure that the public of this country has as much confidence as possible in the police force of this country and in the courts of this country.”
The Member of Parliament for St Michael South further said that he was not saying that the police “can do what they liked or how they like” but noted it is important that “we try to maintain public confidence in these institutions.”
He advocated setting standards that the law enforcers would be “forced to subscribe but not run around the place trying to ensure that the public has no confidence in them.”
The Minister of Home Affairs said that under the Coroners’ Act, when a natural death occurred it was that person’s responsibility to investigate that death and make a finding.
“I have never in my entire life, following these matters, heard any Barbadian express dissatisfaction with the way in which any coroner including the present coroner, discharged his or her duty.
Maloney died on June 17 and his family is questioning the circumstances under which he died. (DS)

To tell de truth I dont know how to say this but I know I have to say this for the benefit of the TRUTH. I stop I think I want to choose my words carefully because what reveal to me is the hard harsh truth that I realise no one else want to talk about but I have been called to deal with it, why me I can ask about this revelation but there are a lot more I have always asked my self why me, so that is no big thing.
I wrote on one of these blogs a few months ago I cant seem to find it now or dont know if my writing was deleted but I intend that the whole of Barbados who I can clearly see were mis led never to overstand the science behind the power of evil given authority to take Iakobi away from all of us who admire such a fine youth as he was, and all the gibridge about sodomy ect rubbish can never be associated to his character, that is not even a joke just a silly excuse.
Now I wish to dedicate this to MANDELA IAKOBI BROTHER most of al because I happen to be in Barbados a few weeks ago and saw him and notice he did not greet me so I guess what I wrote did not go down too well but that is always the problem with the raw truth hard to swallow, what I will reveal here will be even harder to swallow but thats it. When I sat down to talk to Maggie Iakobi mum a few day after seeing Mandela, I wanted to ask her one thing, just ONE THING that was WHAT WAS YOUR REACTION WHEN YOU HEARD NASOMA HAD DIED –WHHHHHHHY/// simply because when I heard of the tradgey I went down on my all fours moaning weeping wailing like I guess all of us did I was weeping and calling her name ‘maggie maggie maggie of Jah how is maggie going to manage’ I was in a state I was crying why why why, how can you let this happen Jah why why why as a mother of four children three sons any mother would feel it for another mother, well thats what I thought was normal when there is tradgedy we forget our petty differences they become small and a great loss like this brings us together. While I was down on my knees the sprit spoke to me I was told that there is a serious reason why Iyah (Jah) allowed this to happen, that it has to do with something Maggie said when Nisoma died. I did not know what that was so when I wrote on the blog I said that I;Akobi is in bliss with Nasoma for reasons which I can reveal there I was speaking from that revelation but held my tounge because I did not have confirmation, just a message, and then because even though I got the message that was only half of it that relief my burden and crying out I realise that this incident was greater than all of us put together, it was from the ALMIGHTY AND WE CANT GO ABOVE HIM . There was something more in the mator then the pestle,I did not know how to get the answer, I decided that it must come from the one who it was revealed to me SAID SOMETHING so I when came to Barbados for 14 days I eventually sat down to talk to Maggie, hmmm, I cant relate the who;e conversation because it went to her getting in a rage as soon as I rasie the name of Nosoma, at first when I said to her that the talk about sodomy is crap she took that wrong way, up to now I cant overs how she could misinterpet me to be sayingg the opposite of what I said, because I would never in my blindest moment associate an angle like I Akoibi with such a low state, and after my life experience in Wilcox I would be the very last person to believe popaganda about Rasta that is just as low as what I was labeled with about, so I had to take time to get the sister to realise I was saying I IGNORE THAT BECAUSE IT IS OBVIOUSLY CRAP, OK I DID GET HER TO HEARD THAT , SO I was about to proceed to the question the sprit told me was the key to the powers that releases this warth of ALMIGHTY IYAH (JAH) on us and her most of all MANDELA by taking IAkobi from our visual presence. Well well well, as soon as I attempted the question Maggie erupted in one big blast on the police, the kind of cussing I wont mention here ,I tried to tell her the police has no power the power belong to the ALMIGHTY, (why the bible say that Iyahweh made the wicked for the day of venange, the psalm say ‘ deliver me oh Lord from bloody and decietfull men who are thy sword’ ) for some reason Maggie did not allow me a chance to ask the question that would complete my revelation, I realise this so I let her carry on, I sat there silenly while she lambased me and the police, as if I was defending them, that it aint got one this and that —to do with this or that, the police kill her son,etc etc etc I tried to get in at one point there is something greater behind this, I began to feel sorry for the way she was upset bearing in mind the burden she was already carrying regardless of why, so I humbled and shut up and took a good lambasing along with the police as if I was in co with them. I was relieved when someone called me to a waiting customer by my shop, it all boiled down to Maggie saying to me a few days later to me that I was ‘glad’ hmmm. and as if answering the question head on before I fully asked it, accusing me of wanting to imply it has to do with something she said when Nosoma died, I was amazed at this change of outburst on me addressing the subject in a cussing me way, not a collective sit down reasoning as I had wanted at first when I got the first lambasing. I considered this reverse psychology, hmmmm I thought to my self still no answer, I began to feel sorry for even saying anything in the first place, and ask myself if the sprit had misled me then I heard, ‘leave it you will get the answer’, I thought to my self there is more to this but just leave it I was assured that I did not get that revealtion for nothing. By now Maggie was heating up on my accusing me of whatever, I told her if you want to empty out on me do so while I am doing my work in the shop but I wont stand here ( I had stoped what I was doing and come out at the back to her as she gave me back a headtie I had given her vex at my apporach to the issue), to listen to it because it has nothing to do with the source and I went back to my work inside, Maggie went under the tent next to me in Temple Yard where a group of Rases were and continued her whatever I could only imagine it was a carry on on me form what I walk away from, I didnt listen by now I was feeling real awfull inside as if I had made a big mistake and began to ask the father why he would show me this if this was not the case. Was I wrong? It was scary I was atually shaking . While I was questioning the sprit the rain came down I close the above window and that shut out her and her carrying on. Only Yah know what was said about me I guess ‘I glad’ etc, more Iyoka this Iyoka that I suppose I dont know
ANYHOW, I will show how the law of MAAT stands predominate, and how the the mystics of IlahseI works and I want to tell first of all Mandela, then Maggie and all the Rastafari community and the police and all others concerned that YAHWEH IS A JEALOUS CREATOR (GOD) AND THERE IS A VERY IMPORTANT PART OF THIS DELIMA THAT WE ALL HAVE TO FACE UP TO LEARN FROM AND THAT ALL THE REST OF OUR FIGHT IS USELESS UNLESS WE DEAL WITH it THE QUESTION MAGGIE DID NOT GIVE ME CHANCE TO ASK, ie WHAT WAS YOUR REACTION WHEN YOU HEARD NASOMA DIED???????. WELL my character was on the futher destruction route again, I glad, I this I that , I vex because no one supported me in my delima, all kind rubbish that evaded the question and stiffled the answer, even though I knew this was the key behind this, all this time I still did not get the proof.
UNTIL — Now this is the power of TRUTH THE LAW OF THE SAME MAAT that it was to be left to and that is was served by. — One day I was going about my business rushing to catch a bus in Whitehill, it wont stop, I got the next and it decided to park down de road because you know how de mini buses does it, one just gone so driver waiting for passengers to come on the road, and would you believe the bus stop right by IREKA, I did not even see her from where I was sitting but someone in de bus shout something to her, reconising the voice, Igot up ask is that IREKA, WHO IS NISOMA MOTHER for who dont know, ( we got to deal wid this) I GOT OUT OF THE BUS AND WENT TO IREKA, I SAID TO HER ‘ IREKA HOW IS IT WITH YOU MAGGIE BECAUSE I WAS AWARE THAT THE TWO WERE NO ON GOOD TERM SOME TIME AGO BECAUSE I HAD TO TELL MAGGIE A FEW YEARS AGO THAT SOMETHING SHE SAID CONCERNING (I WONT PUT IT HERE) IREKA WAS OUT OF ORDER AS A RASTA WOMAN, TO SAY THE MOST IT WAS VERY VIOLENT AND NOT THE WAY RASTAS SUPPOSE TO SETTLE THEIR DIFFERENCES. MAGGIE ACCUSED ME OF TAKING UP FOR IREKA WHEN ALL I WAS SAYING IS THAT WHAT SHE SAID WAS AN EXTREME THING TO SAY TO SETTLE THE PROBLEM .THAT PASS OR AT LEAST I EXPECTED IT HAD PASSED. ANY WAY IREKA REPLIED WE DIDNT USED OR IN AND OUT TALK BUT WHEN HEARD I’AKOBI DIED I WENT RUNNING TO MAGGIE AND SOMEONE PULLED ME BACK AND TOLD ME IF I DONT KNOW THAT WHEN NISOMA DIED MAGGIE SAID ‘I GET WHAT I DESERVE’ but Ireksa said she did not mind she still went ahead and help as much as she could. IREKA SAID SHE DID NOT EVEN KNOW MAGGIE HAD SAID , simple as this may sound to some people this is the science of MAAT, AND A SERIOUS HARD LESSON FOR ALL WHO DONT KNOW THAT WHEN SOMETHING HAPPEN TO ANOTHER ESPECIALYY WHEN A MOTHER LOSS HER FIRST BORN OR ANY CHILD YOU DO NOT IREPEAT DONOT SAY A FORBIDDEN THING LIKE THAT BECAUSE IT CAN VEX THE ALMIGHTY AND HIM CAN TURN IT TO REBOUND ON YOU SO YOU TASTE THE SAME GREIF THAT MOTER YOU REJOICVED OVER WAS SUFFERING AND IF WITH ALL DE SUNDAY SCHOOL FROM SMALL AND BIBLE AROUND WE DONT KNOW THIS AND REFUSING TO FACE IT THEN YAHWEH HELP US ALL. SIMPLE BUT SERIOUS.
I KNOW SOMEPEOPLE WILL SAY I AM TALKING CRAP BUT I AS A HUMBLE SERVANT I HAVE TO REVEAL THIS WITHOUT APOLOGY I WANT TO TELL THE WHOLE BARBADOS THAT THIS WAS THE MYSTERY THAT SHOURDED THIS DELIMA ESPECIALLY THE RASTAFARI COMMUNITY AND MOST OF ALL MANDELA WHO REFUSE TO GREET ME BECAUSE HE DID NOT OVERS MY WORDS, SOME ONEHAS TO UNRAVEL IT. OR ELSE THERE WOULD BE NO CLOSURE,
THE MYSTREY BEHIND IT ALL IT SEEM SIMPLE AS IT MAY SEEM WAS THE EVADED ANSWER moreover IREKA did not tell me who told her that Maggie said that she deserve what she got when IREKA daughter NISOMA died nor did I ask BUT ONE DAY I WAS TALKING TO BERMADEEN, THE SUBJECT CAME UP I TOLD HER WHAT REVEALED TO ME HOW MAGGIE BEHAVE WHEN I TRIED TO CLARIFY IT AND WHAT IREKAS TOLD ME — TO ME SUPRISE BERMADEEN SAID TO ME ‘IYOKA IT WAS ME THAT MAGGIE TOLD THAT TO I CAN CONFIRM SHE SAID SO BECAUSE IT WAS ME SHE SAID IT TO SHE SAID TI RIGHT SO THAT SHE FEEL SORRY FOR NISOMA BUT NOT FOR IREKA BECAUSE IREKA GET WHAT SHE DESERVE.
THERE IS NOTHING HIDDEN TO HIDE OR CAN HIDE I HAVE CALLED THE NAMES BECAUSE WHEN THE SPRIT REVEALS TO WHOM IT WILL NOTHING CAN HIDE. . SO THEN MY DEAR BELOVED PEOPLE DO THIS AGGRIVED MOTHER A FAVOUR PUT MAGGIE TO SIT DOWN AND HUMBLE HERSLF BEFORE THE ALMIGHTY AND REALISE HER MISTAKE , WE ALL MAKE THEM BUT THIS WAS A COSTLY AND GRAVE ONE. How can the one who tell you if you boast about another ones pain the father can get angry and turn it on you , could that same person do the same i.e ‘be glad’ at your pain, that defeats the object and is so stupid it proves itself a lie as the truth on the other hand has proved itself as done in this mysterious matter.
The verdict of misadventure is final and correct it was overpowered by the same force that you cannot win against.
Appeal to the ALMIGHTY CREATOR NOT TO THE COURTS THE JUSTICE IS BEYOND THEM.
FINALLY MANDELA YOU ARE THE GREATEST INNOCENT VICTIM HERE YOU ARE THE ONE TO BE STRONGEST YOU ARE THE HEALER.
I’AKOIBI I’AKOBI I’AKOBI NOW WE KNOW HOW GREIF IREKA FELT BECAUSE OF ONE FORWARD TOUNGE IT WAS SCATTERED ON US ALL . THIS IS THE TIME FOR THE RASTAFARI COMMUNITY TO SIT DOWN AND TELL MAGGIE TO REPENT AND CHANGE HER WAYS OR THE BLOOD IS ON ALL OF YOUR SHOULDERS, I HAVE DONE MY BIT WHETHER YOU HEAR OR YOU FORBEAR IHAVE PASSED IT ON AS IT CAME TO BE I DID NOT WITH HOLD EVEN CALLED THE NAMES OF THE WITNESSES TO THE REVEALED TRUTH, YOU CAN GO AROUND IT IS TOO WIDE YOU CANT GO ABOVE IT ITS TOO HIGH OR BELOW IT IS TOO DEEP FACE AND HUMBLE TO THE TRUTH BECAUSE IT REVEALS IT SELF TO WHOM IT WILL BECAUSE YAHWEH IS NO RESPECT OF PERSONS AND WHEN HIM CHASTISE US WE SHOULD HUMBLE AND STOP TRYING TO FLY UP IN HIS FACE BECAUSE YOU FEEL IF THE REVEATION IS COMING THROUGH THE LEAST OF THE APOSTLES IGNORE IT. I thought that while on the subject of revelation I will share one I have about my son , he is my first born his name is Ishakie or Paul, I got a revelation over 10 years ago that he passed and in my sleep I tasted the grief of a mother who lost a son the real thing, I woke out of the vision and went to my daughter room to tell her it was so heavy, a couple years ago I got it again but not the same feeling that time I prayed Ipray Ipray for my son on both ocassions asking the father to turn it away, who mother wont? we can only ask. On thursday or friday I was very tired and dosed off in front the computer I was not quite a sleep, I saw on the sprit realm, my youngest son saying his brother Paul was a good brother it was as if he had passed it was in the air, I called my son next day saked him if he was sick how he was but dared not tell him what I saw the, though I had told him of the previous ones , anyway there is a Nigerian brother who rents a room in my house, it so happen that same day we were all in the kitchen cooking and we got talking I was telling them that they leaving Africa coming here but what will happen in 2012 Africa will be the safest place, the conversation went on to talking about building house back in Africa and the cost etc and he mentioned he has a brother who just build a 40 room apartment etc etc, somehow I end up telling them about what I saw about my son a few days ago and I was saying that it must be mean that when I go Africa my son will be traped here because he married a English caucasian woman, the brother told me that when I dream that it may not be my son but someone else ,I told him no because I saw it twice before, would you believe that yesterday he camedown stairs looking sad i said what wrong HE SAID THAT SAME BROTHER HE WAS TALIKNG ABOUT YESTERDAY IS DEAD, HE JUST GOT THE NEWS. I had to sit down to take it in his name is Paul and instead of my son Shaka saying his brother Paul was a good brother it was this brother Paul saying his brother who is Shaka age died. Little did he know when he told me my vision may mean someone else that it was to be his brother. What can we do in this life we never know. Watch and pray

The rastafari community needs greater respect.
All kinds of people come here from England,Russia,America,Syria,Lebanon,India, guyana and jamaica, yet you who are born here are treated as an outcast.
You have to set high standards and stop accepting any and everybody who are not true rastas into your fold which bring down the name of rastas.
Rastas got to start making demands in a peaceful and polite way.Demands to be represented in the Senate, demands to be given the freedom to worship according to your beliefs, because after all if the hindus and muslims who not from here could come and get through why not you.
Billie miller that traitor allowed the indian muslim children to do as they like with the school uniform, but rasta children who were born and bred bajans got hell in school.
Rasta need to demand respect now IN A PEACEFUL WAY.

We must love and respect each other , first of all respect the king they are some things that if we respect each other we would never say about each other, but you have Rasta fighting down Rasta, the bible says the fruits of the sprit are faith hope and charity the greatest of them is charity, Charity is based love and compassion and mercy Charity begins at home. I have never seen Rastas being obstructed from worshipping, as for schools I fought the battle for Rasta children to go to school with their locks so my youths were the first Rasta youth in school and were featured on the front page of the Nation news, from then up to today Rasta children are accepted in schools with their locks.. If one refers to smoking weed as part of worship, whereby ganga is classed by the system as an illegal substance, His Imperial Majesty as head of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church never ordained weed smoking as a way of worship. I still need to be taught where that idea originated from. His Imperial Majesty pointed us to the teachings of Christ and when we research the ture teachings of Christ, (THE ESSENCE GOSPEL THE TRUTH OF JESUS CHRIST) we find HIM was a member of the essence sect who were fully itral ( ie eat of the food according to genisis 1.vs 29 in its natural raw state) and never smoked. Not many Rastas I know use the herb in its natural fresh state as other herbs, sometimes because of the restrictions the system put on growing it. I set up the first Rastafari school and I got all the support from the goverment, it was my own who destroyed it, trust me we are our own biggest enemies not only as Rastas but as an oppressed black African race.

The question of how I’Akobi met his death has still been left unanswered after approximately 10 months of deliberations both inside and out of court. Although the coroner had dismissed the idea of I’Akobi going to the cliff with the intention of taking his own life, the verdict of misadventure is still debatable. In her context it was defined as the act of running from the police which inadvertently resulted in his death. Our family vehemently refutes the coroner’s claim in this regard; as the act of running towards what the police perceived to be a 60 ft. drop head first with hands outstretched in this ‘mad’ dash for freedom quintessentially describes the act of suicide. Although the coroner removed the police’s postulations of why he had taken his life that being (depression, homosexuality, madness and drug association), she inadvertently or intentionally accepted the single report submitted by Headley and Walkes as the irrevocable truth. How she arrived at this ‘reality’ still remains a mystery as she had not too long questioned the likeness of both officers’ statements (from the order of sentences to adjectives).
We are now firmly of the belief that the police are an autonomous body in Barbados and subsequently we must now call ourselves a judicial apostates as it relates to any interaction between this body and the general public. This was heightened by the coroner’s dismissal of the event relayed to us (face to face) by both Dottin and Reece (the officers who informed us of a fatal accident where they had personally witnessed I’Akobi ‘iffing’ i.e. motioning as though he was prepared to leap over the edge of the cliff). The rationale for this decision she claimed to be miscommunication. This too was her explanation for not taking into account, the information (the leading of a squad i.e. more than one person as well as the sketchy details) relayed to us at the Holetown police station by Seargent Headley. What is left to be surmised is that the police are free to tell the families of victims whatever they feel without being held accountable for their utterances.
Our family rejects the timeline fabricated/procured by the police and subsequently accepted by the coroner. There were residents who as early as 4:30 saw a congregation of police assembled at the cliff whilst the body was in the water, approximately one hour before the policemen were alleged to have arrived at the scene. As with autonomy the police are also the official timekeepers and their standard is universally accepted as gospel. The coroner’s claim that the ‘5 minute window’ did not present a large enough divide for such an occurrence, especially since the incident was in an open area, does not take into consideration events of brutality known to have occurred in Barbados. The beating of the white and black patrons at the Kensington Oval provides a suitable enough analogy, where the police manhandled these patrons in the view of a cameraman and other eye witnesses. Additionally, as it takes mere seconds for a body to land at the foot of a cliff, ‘5 minutes’ provides an ample enough window for this “fatal accident”.
Ultimately, she failed miserably in her role which was to allay the concerns of our family and the public. There still remains much misinformation disseminated by the police which she would like to have our family believe was a result of miscommunication. There remains the unexplored domain which she was reluctant to deduce. That being that as from as early as June the 18th when our family had talked to Sergeant Headley there was no consensus as to how he had died, Harvey’s subsequent involvement brought about solidity of the scenario (there were only two people who interacted with him and no more). This answers puzzling question of why the nine other officers who were at the scene could not validate these two policemen’s account. They were never intended to be material witnesses and to give them a significant role of witnessing the entire event especially after Harvey had completed his investigation would be succinctly dubious.
As Khalid Muhammad said whoever controls the diameter of our learning controls the circumference of our ability. The police provided this diameter with their fabricated report subsequently the coroner’s ability was then controlled and limited to their facts. It is therefore likened to the adage that a great house will sink in sand. There must be a more sturdy impartial foundation to the proceedings of the coroner’s court if it is seeking to be a truly independent entity.
